A fishing boat from Mumbai's Madh Koliwada sank in the early hours of December 29, 2024, after a collision with a Chinese cargo ship in deep sea waters. The crew members were rescued by nearby vessels and are reported to be safe. Efforts are underway to tow the sunken boat back to Madh, with assistance from the Navy and Coast Guard.
In a maritime incident off the coast of Mumbai, a fishing boat registered as IND-MH-2-MM-5251, owned by Mr. Hemdeep Harishchandra Tipri from Madh Koliwada, collided with a Chinese cargo ship named ZAU CHENG XIN ZHOO (IMO 9252993) in the early hours of December 29, 2024. The collision occurred at coordinates Lat 19-41-208, Lon 72-28-200.
The impact caused the fishing boat to sink. Fortunately, crew members from the nearby Savti Group vessels promptly rescued the boat's captain and sailors, ensuring their safety.
The Savti Group deployed eight boats to secure the sunken vessel and are currently towing it back to Madh, Talpasha Port. They are expected to arrive around 12:00 to 1:00 PM on December 29, 2024.
The Indian Navy and Coast Guard have been actively involved in the rescue operation. Two officers have been assisting on-site since the incident occurred.
