I finally played Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, thanks to being invited to Summer Games Fest: Play Days. I've been steadily releasing EXCLUSIVE gameplay recordings, but then I was blessed to see they also released a new GAME MODE trailer, going over both the custom battle (custom level maker), and also the episode mode where you get to take characters through a decision based story mode! I had to react to it!

This just shows you how good a game can be if the creators themselves are just as passionate for their work as the fans.
The amount of fear I had when they first announced this I was getting ptsd from ultimate tenkaichi, so I'm afraid they would ruin it, but I think we are safe

Yeah like the way they implemented split screen for local multiplayer even though the game wasn't designed for that plus they allow you to play with old controls as well as custom raid bosses and editing replays they really are amazing for this
Its mostly looks like the same old shit. Wait until the game actually comes out before you let these devs/content creators deceive and exploit you. Only then will we see if they actually care about more than just your money.

If you're wondering why split-screen can only be done in the Time Chamber, the reason is related to the main issue with split-screen modes in many graphically intensive games:
Performance problems.
When a game is played via its split-screen mode, it is effectively rendered at least twice. That's once for each player viewport on the screen. Those viewports are all shown on the screen at the same time throughout a session. If the game uses intense graphics and/or the device it runs on can't handle the multiple simultaneous renders, the performance drops considerably. In some cases, optimization tricks can only do so much to help with that.
This problem dates all the way back to the likes of Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Neither the game nor the console could handle the simultaneous rendering of four player viewports, as anyone who played the game can tell you.
Yes, Sparking Zero goes up to two players, so that softens the performance blow a good deal. But, given what the game sets out to do with its graphics, particularly with its effects and destructible environment, I think we can all guess as to how hard the frames would tank if split-screen was allowed in a regular level. The Time Chamber is literally the least performance intensive level the game has.

The amount of effort they went through to add not just content, but REPLAYABLITY for this game is incredible.
It cannot be understated how awesome it is that they added local split-screen! They could have EASILY just have said "nah we can't do that sorry fam", but instead they said "look we can't do it 1:1 with what you want but here's a compromise." HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN IN GAMING!? *W DEV TEAM*
The fact that it wasnt even in their list in the first place but due to the demand and the devs actually listening they tried to put it the best they could

Local should have been considered during start of development to compromise for the level of detail they would be able to add in the game. I hate when they favour graphics over gameplay. I could see them adding the Capsule Corp Island from Super Broly for local multiplayer. It would just be an open ocean stage with the island safely in the background.
That's sorta boring compared to the intense destructible environments they prioritized over split-screen (which I can't help but feel let down by). Maybe if they were able to make the water deform and split with auras and attacks, it'd be worth it, but a flat blue sea is like the hyperbolic time chamber again
@@ChargeQM I feel like you don't quite understand the necessity of having a static stage for split screen. The power required to render 2 separate destructions of that quality is more than it can handle which is why split screen is locked to the non-destructive HTC. Yes, it is ultimately boring, but it fits the requirements of split screen while offering a bit of variety and a neat reference.
I would love to fight in the World Tournament. With the actual rules, that would be dope

Storm connections does one thing better that is the local multiplayer unfortunatly, I cant understand how they initially wanted to do a continuation of the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise without the local multiplayer in mind it just doesnt make sense to me

Nobody is ever going to be able to do what Levi did with an in-game editor. There will be plenty of things he can do better than the game's editor that nobody else can do.
Not just that, your last comment implies you haven't been around very long if you're unsure if it needs to be even harder. You're talking about the idiots that go above and beyond for difficulty. Nigh impossible. If the game doesn't have the options for it, Levi will make them.
Gameplay and story mode already looked dope, but they went beyond and added in Mario Maker mechanics to make our own what-if battles in a BT game and I'm all for it.
I totally understand their reasons for the splitscreen being limited, but I'm just so glad that they listened and added it. My son is gonna be 6, and I'm super excited to play the game with him.

Even racing games these days don't have split screen because it's so impossible for games with modern detail to render two versions of everything, so I always knew this game wasn't gonna have it with its insane effects and destruction. But the fact they worked to make it happen as much as they could just for the people who want it is extremely cool. And like you said, maybe in the future when systems get more powerful they'll be able to do it on other stages.
I am just genuinely grateful man......

yeah with the preorder characters and DBFZ, goku and vegeta blue were unlocked by completing the hard modes of the gauntlet mode. so yeah i think these characters will be available through in-game unlocks by completing some mission or special requirement in a specific mission or something.

I love the stuff they’re doing makes me hopeful that the what if scenarios are going to go crazy with at least more than two options/paths.
As for the early unlock thing, for those that don’t know, Early Access characters have always simply been a purchase bonus that lets you play as a late game character without you actually having to complete the in game requirements. It’s not a paywall it’s a simple bonus bonus for those who want the shortcut

The more news I hear of this beast of a game the more hype I get for it. Longer battles, custom battles, what if scenarios, and so much more they have delivered so far, this game has now become game of the year for me and it isn't out yet.
Custom battles are gonna be insane. And i already have an idea, we can even make them talk to eachother! Im giggling and kickin my feet over here like a littls kid going to disney.
I'm the most excited for the what if scenarios, that shit is gonna be amazing and I haven't been this excited for anything in a very long time. This and Shadow Generations is going to make this year much better for me, so much to look forward to 🐢
Love the idea for custom battles! It's kinda what I expected but even more so. Part of me wishes they went all out with it and allow you to essentially group battles together and have branching paths to make your own story mode of sorts. That would gave been really cool.
Also with the title card, me being a little nerd. If it were me on this dev team, I'd try to go all out with basically you creating your own DB episode and allowing for you to play the intro immediately or before a fight, then title card, then you do the fight and then you can trigger the outro as a win or lose condition so you can have your own "NEXT TIME, ON DRAGON BALL Z" moment. Essentially making your own Dragon Ball show. That would've been sweet.
But I am just fan deving at this point 😂
