Thank you! That was a great explanation. I look forward to watching more of your videos. I'm taking the pediatric echo registry soon!

Complex topic. It should probably be emphasized that dTGA is the more common TGA, and is described in the first MayoClinic slide on this presentation, whereas the next slide (Wikipedia based) describes L-TGA short axis, also called Congenitally Corrected TGA, or ccTGA.
The slide after that shows dTGA short axis.
Mixing dTGA and ccTGA, which are very distinct clinical entities makes this talk a little confusing, but if you feel confident enough about the basic physiology it is worth watching.
Lastly, while dTGA is indeed corrected through the arterial switch procedure, as mentioned in the talk, ccTGA’s natural history is much more variable, and the type and timing of surgical repair are debatable.
Note that ccTGA is compatible with life (hence “congenitally corrected”) and morbidity arises from right ventricular failure, after decades of maintaining systemic pressure.
dTGA indeed requires urgent prostaglandins and balloon atrial septostomy, named after William Rashkind who first performed it in 1966, at CHOP.

That’s fantastic! Medicine has come so far. When I started in 1985 it was a crap shoot to as to how long it was before a TGA patient had severe problems. I’m glad you’re doing well.
