  • A classic in San Diego as both teams combine for 74 points and over 1,000 yards of offense in an overtime thriller.

    The 1985 MNF meeting in the Coliseum also marked the last time the Raiders played a home MNF game as an LA team, as the area around the Coliseum had gotten bad. The NFL said using Anaheim Stadium for home MNF games was not an option. Games on other nights were also banned.
    As a result, KNBC lost the local broadcast rights to 29 Raiders road games out of 71 between 1986-94, as they usually played well enough to earn multiple national TV appearances a season. In some seasons, as few as 4 Raiders games aired on KNBC.
    During this period, the Raiders were on TNT 4 times, ESPN 8 times, and ABC 16 times. The ESPN games also aired on KABC in Los Angeles, due to the common ownership of ESPN and ABC. It is not known what stations simulcast the TNT games.

    One of the first games I remember watching as a kid. Lionel Little Train James had his best game. My Raiders finished the year with six straight wins, but never got the offense right and it cost us against the Patriots in the playoffs.

      Turn overs gift wrapped the game, those jerkoffs scored got all their points du to our TO's along with a 6'6 drip of water named Marc Wilson, even with it all we still just missed, it was the start of true Raider demise, we shoulda won in 82 again allowing the fake Jets ta beat us at home another game we pretty much gave away, we didn't score in that one n the same in 84 at the kingdome, the league kaboshed us in 83 with Elway meantime we shoulda made em pay worse an Don't take Dan Marino!!!!! They woulda had to shut the league down if Dan was a Raider with the talent those Raider teams had, of course theirs always Rozele n the league stoppin us...yeah they woulda had to fa Real!!!!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🐘🐼🐬🐅🐻🐕🐳🐖🐄

      IDK, that’s a popular idea, and I agree that SD offense was awesome, and the D cost them dearly, but they had problems IMO, intangible ones, that had nothing to do with D. I mean, they never even really got that close, so I can’t agree that they’d have won title(s) if the D were only upgraded slightly.
      I know it was EXTREME weather, but Fouts was really bad in the 1981-82 AFC title game. Yes, it was -34 degrees or whatever, but that’s football. Ken Anderson managed to guide his team to some points...
      But I also don’t subscribe to the theory that championships are all that matters. The Chargers played an exciting, explosive type of offensive football that was ahead of its time, and they were fun to watch. It’s a spectator sport...what more can we REALLY expect? Only 1 team wins the SB.

    This was one of seven games that season in which the Chargers scored 34 or more points. They actually managed to lose three of those games. Had their pathetic Swiss-cheese "defense" not cost them those three games, they would have finished 11-5 and very likely made the playoffs as a wild card (though I'm not certain, since the Jets and Patriots both finished 11-5 as well).

    • @cjs83172
      @cjs83172 5 лет назад +2

      Actually, that can be said about many of the NFL's high-powered offenses today, which is a tribute to how far ahead of it's time Air Coryell really was. In fact, Hall of Fame TE Kellen Winslow once stated that the 1999 Rams offense that won the Super Bowl used the same terminology that the teams he played on used. But many of the teams use variations of what Don Coryell ran, even now.

      He had three (83, 84, 85). Should've been 1982 MVP. The Raiders were punchless on offense in 1981...he led the league in TD's in 82. They were dynamic with him being the only real difference. If Al didn't hold a grudge and it was really about 'just winning'...Marcus might have more yards from scrimmage than any RB ever. He lost five years as a starting back. And ironically, it gave him a second life in KC, where he regularly whooped our ass (9-1 vs us from 93 to 97).

      Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot In the 9 game strike shorten 1982-83 season I feel that Dan Fouts & Marcus Allen should've been CO-MVP'S like Brett Favre & Barry Sanders in the 1997-98 season & The late great Steve McNair & Peyton Manning during the 2003-04 season with Wes Chandler as offensive player of the year. But make no mistake all 3 of those great players were more worthy candidates for the league MVP instead of overrated Washington Redskins kicker Mark Moseley. To this very day 36 years later I'm still flabbergasted & apalled that the Associated Press (AP) who the NFL recognizes as it MVP award giver could make such a dumb & assinine decision & give such a big time award to damn kicker smh.
