  • time to blow out sprinklers around here! temps are dropping fast and lawns are going dormant. The whole process is really simple, all you need is an air compressor, one attachment, make sure your waters off, make sure that you can quickly change between stations, and just let her rip.

What size compressor are you using?

This warm stretch has been a God-sent. I started my renovation in September. Started by killing off the lawn it took me three weeks, Because I had some stubborn spots that kept turning green. I want to get a proper fallow instead of hurrying things up. I ended up seeding in mid August. August 20th. I am now mowing it for the second time. I put down some 5 iron perennial rye mix. And on the other side of my front yard I used a local brand it's basically the same seed and it has done Is very well . I am in the Pacific Northwest just South of Seattle.

The weather has been perfect for fall seeding this year out west.

How about telling us what pressure and volume your tank has?? Also, you are not supposed to blow through the vacuum breaker as it can be damaged.....

I had the same set up to blowout from the vacc breaker (only option as there's no port on the waterline). however when the compressor is on, the pressure backflow preventer keeps generating loud noise without allowing the sprinkler head coming out. It seems your pressur backflow preventer is totally fine with no issue, did you do anything to get it work?

I have a few patches of Poa in the front yard, didn’t put any pre-emergent down this fall as I over seeded but do you feel Anew will suppress the Poa next spring? Thank you

That’s the idea. Start treating early so it can’t spread

I have 2 more weeks left before my last fert of the season. No N after 11/1 here on LI. I have been using up my last of my 2 year old Stim Pack containers over the last 6 weeks painting the lawn black but its looking amazing. Water will be shut off mid November.

again, for like the 4th year in a row, in Iowa we did not get enough help from Mother Nature in the summer/fall for much moisture; everything wanted to stay dried out - but one area I had to finally seed anyway, my Wife was not impressed with our new record high water bill - however unlike in the past few years(where it stayed hot and dry late into Oct) it at least cooled way down, and my fresh new TTF growth seemed to really love that by turning darker and thicker in the cool season our grass types work best in ... didn't get much happening in my favorite yard tho, put down some seed but just a little too late to heat up KBG enough to pop
I'm thinking about some sort of last fert for the new grass, wondering if just some 10-10-10 would help replenish what all those new roots took out of the soil and develop them further; however now it looks really good and mows great, so might not mess with it

Excuse my ignorance, but what was the purpose of blowing out the sprinkler systems?

    • @Lawncology

      Exploding pipes from freezing

When water freezes it expands. So if your pvc or plex pipes are filled they will break.

I have a self draining commercial system at my house. No need to blow it out with a compressor.

Your views are awesome! I understand about not applying pre-emergents when overseeding. But If I overseeded an established lawn first week in September and it’s thick and filled in will applying Barricade some time mid November hurt my turf? No issues with weeds this fall or best to wait til early spring ?
I had an issue with poa last spring but I think it was due to aerating my lawn.
