I remember seeing a side by side comparison of the Fox and Disney dub of My Neighbor Totoro, the video had the clip of Satsuki and Mei fighting about their mom having to stay longer at the hospital and in the Fox dub Mei's cries are more so annoying and irritating that any emotional moment is gone BUT Disney actually did something good back then and the voice actress for Mei was age accurate and the cries sound more real and THEN there's emotional investment.
