Throw back to the good old days of basic minecraft. Back when know one was super good and videos like this still existed. Now it's hard to find a good interesting non modded plain vanilla lets play. This game is great and it brings back so many memories.
I've been mining level 6 (right above the bedrock) for a while now. I mined a shaft the same way you describe, and also arranged the branch system the same way. (except I made my main tunnel 2x2 to help me not get turned around) I dropped into a perfect spot without any lava (or caves on the way down) and I'm working on a vast mine on this layer until running into lava in any branch. Almost done with the excavation after days of digging, and countless pickaxes. Long story short, I've really had excellent luck finding everything but emeralds, obviously. If the layers you describe are even richer, I can't wait to get into them as I work my way up!
Start at a point where you think you are really deep, mine down while counting but BE CAREFUL, if you reach the certain number of blocks, that's how ya count
I tried this and after making like 20 of those long halls and using your method and 3 hours of mining I found nothing more than gold. The gold I found was only 10 ore and that was it besides that I got minimal iron ore and just a crap ton of cobblestone taking up space in my chests and inventory and maybe some coal and gravel for flint. -2/10 MLG DOES NOT APPROVE
Luke51015 Maybe but it's boring and wastes picks. I spent 30 min (I think) in a cave with 3 iron picks and got 3 stacks of coal, 1 1/2 stacks of iron, 53 gold ingots, 1 1/2 redstone dust, 6 diamonds and 4 emeralds. I used 3 picks on this method and found 43 coal and 24 iron. Caves are the best way to go. What's the point in doing this if you're wasting resources.
I could also recommend these tips 1. Don't just mine in branches, if you do, then you're going to be missing a lot of diamonds that could be there 2. Try to mind diagonally, this increases your chances by 10000x of finding diamonds. 3. Try mining to a cave and mine there, by my experience, I have found lots more rare items there. 4. Try strip-mining. Also by my experience i found miore rare items by doing this
That's because he was probably playing in 1.7 versions, and in that version lapis was only used as a dye and it isn't really useful to dye stuff in Minecraft, so he didn't mine mine the lapis. As for the redstone, this was only a video to show how to get diamonds. And plus, he probably didn't even WANT to mine the redstone anyway, so yeah.

This is a great tutorial on how to find diamonds. I found diamonds but then I lost them when I got killed by a skeleton and an endermen. I didn't go back to the mine after that.

advice from a pro actually the best way to do it is to bring a map and go to a cavern and make sure you stay at y 15 through y 0 (cavern has to be big) and take some iron armor full set and a enchanted iron sword (knockback II best) alot of torches always pick up torches in dead end caves as you exit once you find diamonds i recommend going to the surface if you are at y 50 you can dig straight up in emergencies but the path of torches you made can lead you to the surface use your map to make sure you are near home cave entrance is best to be near house/shelter in case you come out at night go into the cave at daynever bring pets in the cave and i suggest to use lots of gravel for lava in case diamonds are under or near the edge of lava only use on source block (dig gravel after still do not go down in case any lava is remaining never mine diamonds near lava) also picking up your torches helps you stay down there longer the longer your down there the higher chance of finding diamonds and use water on creepers bring a crafting table and a furnace as well as a couple of iron and stone pickaxes use the iron pickaxe on diamonds, redstone, lapiz and gold or find them in the nether or in abandoned mineshafts (they are in the minecarts with chests).

+Athena Jamaranian the highest layer of bedrock is 4 so if u are standing on that, ur on 4. Now just jump and place a block underneath you and count 1 up per block so after you have placed 7 blocks, ur at layer 11. :)

Gold tools get the best enchants, so if you set an enchantment with a gold tool then switch to diamond it will have the same enchants available
Actually, I realized that they fixed the "lock enchant with gold for diamond tools" glitch, it's specific for each material now too :(
actually golden pickaxes mine blocks faster then diomond pickaxes so gold tools are not useless either

better way:need iron pickaxe, put it in a chest switch to creative and put diamond ores everywhere,
switch back to survival and mine it with the iron pickaxe

How can you tell what layer you're on on the 360? It is like 12 blocks down from sea level? Or 12 up from bedrock or something?

This is a great tutorial on how to find diamonds. I found diamonds but then I lost them when I got killed by a skeleton and an endermen. I didn't go back to the mine after that.

+Gaming Legend You are right I posted this question on several videos that I found had it pulled up, guess it was my other post that I said I had already tried these keys, one of the videos said - Shift+F2, so I went the whole Fn bar from 1 to 12, and both Shift + and Fn key+, I think it must be Windows 10.

advice from a pro actually the best way to do it is to bring a map and go to a cavern and make sure you stay at y 15 through y 0 (cavern has to be big) and take some iron armor full set and a enchanted iron sword (knockback II best) alot of torches always pick up torches in dead end caves as you exit once you find diamonds i recommend going to the surface if you are at y 50 you can dig straight up in emergencies but the path of torches you made can lead you to the surface use your map to make sure you are near home cave entrance is best to be near house/shelter in case you come out at night go into the cave at daynever bring pets in the cave and i suggest to use lots of gravel for lava in case diamonds are under or near the edge of lava only use on source block (dig gravel after still do not go down in case any lava is remaining never mine diamonds near lava) also picking up your torches helps you stay down there longer the longer your down there the higher chance of finding diamonds and use water on creepers bring a crafting table and a furnace as well as a couple of iron and stone pickaxes use the iron pickaxe on diamonds, redstone, lapiz and gold or find them in the nether or in abandoned mineshafts (they are in the minecarts with chests).
setting torches down in the FIRST thing i do. i usually find caves that reach ground level and go from there.

***** No, experiences are cost of enchanting. Lapis Lazuri is good for blue dyes and something else I can't remember now.
Pretty sure it would be better to mine 2 down on one side then 4 time on each other times so you will have more time to be aware of lava, etc. while you're unconsciously mining.
