I finally got the chance to try out the Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic! I didn’t listen to the instructions and decided to add a leave in. Let’s just say my hair was a little too moisturized lol.

This is my FAVE product. I always go back. Because it is easy to use and not drying. You do not need a leave in but I go back and forth. And yes, you definitely used too much LOL. It’s concentrated and usually spreads great with water. Hard for me to use gels like Wetline after using UFD because you don’t apply them the same. Need less UFD. I also like how UFD wears over the week. Gets softer but still definition. But yeah, UFD does take longer to dry but I think your experience was more about how much product was used. Looks great tho!

Thanks for the tips Sabrina! Yes I can see I def used too much. I will def use less next time and will use it alone to see if I like it better. Did love the definition though. 😊

I literally just used UFD for my wash and go. I'm type 4 and it's definitely a one and done styler for me. The gel is just that moisturizing! I love this fluffy wash and go on you😍 Curl definition on point! I bought Uniqurl for the 1st time because of your community post. Can't wait to try it❤️

Uncle Funky’s Curly Magic is my fave. I can get 7 days easy. I use it by itself, and I’ve not had a problem with it taking too long to dry. I also love it because it’s glycerin free, so my hair doesn’t look like a hot mess in the summer. Thanks for the video! 😊

Hey Vanessa! Yes the longevity of it is 💣! I wasn’t expecting for it to last as long as it did. My hair is super low porosity and my hair was just too moisturized which is why it took so long to dry. I def with keep experimenting. Thanks so much for watching 💕😊

This wash n go looks so good!! That shine and definition..!! Definitely need to try this gel out. I’m currently really liking the Honey’s handmade aloe gel from the first melba’s kitchen collection and recently purchased the crowd fave CRN curl maker.
I tried to be good this Juneteenth, lord knows I have way too many products as it is but still got some things from product junkie naturals. I was so tempted by coils in paradise after your review, but skipped it. Maybe next year!

I have used Uncle funky's daughter without and with a lightweight leave in conditioner... Don't be too heavy-handed with this gel will take longer to dry. Your hair look good as usual... Can add wet line gel at the end for extra hold..

I haven't tried Uncle Funky's Curly Magic or any of their products but I'll definitely will make this gel the first product I try from this brand once I run out of my other gel. Also, have you ever tried the Ecoslay Jello Shot gel? This gel is the best one I've used so far.

The curly magic can definitely give super moisturized results. I had to put wetline on top a few weeks ago when I paired the curly magic with the carols daughter coco creme butter because it was too moisturized to define. It's still my favorite gel for wash and gos though

I love this gel. I love your results too. I used way too much also the first time I used it 🤪 I usually use a firm hold gel on top but this week I made the mistake of using the Camille Rose Coconut Water under it 😬 I never thought in a million years that my high porosity hair could ever be over moisturized. I took forever to dry but it was so soft.

I brought a big bottle (32oz) but the first time wasn’t feeling it because it shrunk my hair so bad. So the 2nd time I used leave in, moisturizer. Then Curly Magic since me hair had so much shrinkage I used Eco flaxseed black castor over it and my hair looked much better and lasted longer. I believe it stimulated my hair so much it looked to short for me. So whenever I use it a gel has to go over it but it last about 5 days. It’s one of my favorite stylers not as good as Kinky Curly but I’ll definitely buy it again because of the big bottle and my hair is so shiny after. Oh and about the drying it takes a while but my hair does take as long as yours. It looks like I used about the same amount as you

My 2nd favorite gel! My 1st is CR curl maker.
Curly magic is awesome as a one in done, and I can get a week wash n go from it. Awesome product for sure!
Yes, I think you used too much. A little definitely goes a long ways, esp on soaking wet hair. I always air dry and it doesn't take any extra time drying ( unless I get heavy handed).
I picked up a couple products from Coils in paradise, based on your review. Reuped on moisture love (61% off). And got in on the soul buck sale at soultanicals!

When I used this product my hair was fully dry. I used it with Mane Choice 3 in 1 (our favorite leave in). Lol you ready to go and not come back. I use this gel as a base for a wash and go. Instead of using a leave in, a cream, and a gel, I'll use a small amount of leave in, followed by this for extra moisture, and then follow that up with a stronghold gel. I think you've done similar wash and gos with the Mielle Custard and The Mane Choice Braid Out Glaze. Same concept as that.

This is my fave gel for a wash n go so I’m glad you reviewed it!
My hair usually takes a long time to dry too. What I’ve done is apply Kinky Curly Knot Today then the gel on soaking wet hair on small-medium sized sections then loosely twist them. That way my hair stays weighted down. Then I sit under the dryer. I go about my day and when I get up in the morning, it’s dry and I untwist. The curls are still defined and they last about a week.
The only problem I have are the puffy roots. I have a highly dense head of hair. Lol. Anyone have suggestions on how to combat that? 🤔

    • @NJEberhart
      @NJEberhart  4 года назад +1

Hey love. My only suggestion for puffy roots is to focus the gel in the roots. If you do that and still get puffy roots you may judge have to use a gel with stronger hold lol. Thick hair problems lol. Thanks for watching 💕😊

I don’t one and done either. I LOVE Uncle Funky’s Daughter gel. I used the Miche Beauty Lavish Leave in with it also. It’s a Fav!!! I also use it with the Texture ID leave in. It lasts all week for me. I have the 32 oz size bottle. I always diffuse my hair to get the roots dry, sorry sis. Your hair is thicker than mine. It’s really crispy on me if I use without a leave in. My hair is probably not moisture trained like yours.
    Products:
    Naturals Little Secret
    Coils in Paradise
    Uniqurl
    Kriya Botanicals
By the way this weekend I used the CurlSmith moisture line. I used the cowash, deep conditioner and the oil in cream leave in along with the curl soufflé. It is very moisturizing. You probably wouldn’t like it. Definition on point and so far so good, today is Wednesday and it looks better every day. It elongates my hair and it gives me big hair, which I like. All I do at night is tie my hair up in a satin scarf and with this product I don’t even have to fluff it because it falls into place. I shake my head a little and it’s all good. Just an FYI. I think this weekend I’m going to try Style Factor. I’m kind of excited to try that one.

    • @Listen2me400
      @Listen2me400 4 года назад

NJ Eberhart I absolutely love Kriya Botanicals low porosity leave in. A fav for sure. I got two of those. The scoop on the Curl Smith Soufflé. I now realize all custards and soufflés tend to eventually bead up in my head. This one wasn’t as bad as the All Naturall custard. I love how both products look in my head. Both give me loads of moisture, bounce, movement and elongation but around the 5th day I start to see little round beads of product in my head. The All Naturall product is worse (larger beads). Curl Smith’s washed out easier. I have one application of each product left. Can’t be waisting no coin, but that’s a wrap. Other than the soufflé I love the Curl Smith products. I used the style factor gel. It did leave a crunch as expected but it looked so moisturized, shinny and it did have bouncy beautiful curls. As much as I love the way gels look in my hair and I prefer gels, but that crunch. I guess that’s why Uncle Funky’s is my fav, it may be time to let the others go after I use them all up of course.😂 I have a Mikey in the house, my brother will take any and all products with grateful, open hands. 🤲🏽 I don’t worry too much about waisting products or having them go bad he will always take up the slack .🤣 Ok I’m done. Enjoy your day.

I wish I could use this gel in the summer but it’s a no go for me 😔 When I use it in the summer my hair easily frizzes with the humidity and starts to feel damp! Like literally wet to the touch. I love the definition and shine it gives though!

Ooooh.... I used this product once and my hair was super gummy/sticky/wet. Yeah, it never dried. Then, when I went outside, it’s almost as if the humidity re-wet my hair?🤔 I have type 4 hair with about 90% shrinkage, so that was fun. I think I might be brave enough to try it again, but not as a wash and go, but a twist out instead AND I will use it by itself. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I thought it was just me on the drying time. It take for every and i don't even have thick hair.i never do sopping wet hair for any application (leaves my hair puffy) I diffused it for 1hr and 45min. One time ...still felt waxy(?) like it wasn't fully dry or formed a cast. Not till day 3 or 4 did it feel set, then its almost time to do it again so I couldn't really enjoy it. Still trying to figure out the right measurements for that gel cause i hear such good things,I figure i must be doing it wrong.

It's possible that you're using too much gel. If you hair is still wet after hours of dryer and air drying, that's most likely the problem. I've use UFD for a couple of years (before moving on to Earthtones Naturals Curling Gelly), but on my thick, coil-y bushy 3c-4a hair, it did a good job of giving my definition, gloss and body. Try it again in smaller sections using less gel.

UFD is my favorite gel. I don't use it with Miche. I found it way too moisturizing. UFD mixes well with quite a few leave ins and hair milks. My curls stay intact and moisturized the entire week. I like it with CRN curl love, coconut water leave in, or Oyin hair dew. It handles my 4a/mostly 4b curls better than any gel I've ever used. You're right. UFD is concentrated. Use less product.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from using this gel, which gave me trash results, the Obia Curl Enhancing Custard which I highly recommend you try and the Giovanni L.A. Hold Gel it’s that some gels require a leave in that will clump your curls before you use the gel. The uncle Funkys didn’t produce great results for me because it did not and could not clump my 4B/4C hair that naturally does not clump on its own very much.

@@NJEberhart The Giovanni L.A. Hold Gel (which I ordered to store at Walgreens) is a really nice strong hold gel. Purely because I don't like the look of a wash n go on my hair due to the current shape and length of my hair I would definitely try this gel again in the future. The Curl Enhancing Custard (cheaper on the Obia site but also on Amazon) has a nice flexible medium hold that also left my hair soft and moisturized ( I did not need oil to scrunch out the crunch) on top of a moisturizing leave in ( I used the Camille Rose Coconut Water under it). Its also black owned and ph balanced with clean non toxic ingredients. Also I was scared that it would frizz up on me because it has glycerin but no it really held up throughout the week even in rainy and humid climates. Alove4Me and What the KinK youtubers have great reviews on the Custard. Hope this helps.

I loved your video! You definitely used too much product (I tend to be too light handed). And I find that putting anything else underneath does not work well. The only thing I use is Carol's Daughter Monoi Oil Leave in Spray Conditioner... and Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic. Nothing else. I have Type 3C, low density, high porosity hair, and I get 5-7 days out of my wash and go. Amazing. Hey... type 3 girls... don't use too much - it can gets greasy/oily looking if you're too heavy handed. All I do for a refresh is mist with water to reactivate the product, and proceed to style.
