Yes lol. Loved that. And TBH it is impressive at the age of Four to know you need to change your pronunciation a bit and do it. “You can see the star in me back then is what you’re saying” :)
If you're wondering about the Northern Ireland accent, note that a common pronunciation for Northern Ireland sounds like "Norn-Iron". The accent is strong - I'm from Dublin, and once had trouble understanding a guy from Derry asking me the time (years ago, before universal smartphone use) - he resorted to pointing at my watch, and then when I told him the time, he couldn't understand me, so I resorted to showing him my watch. Derry and Dublin are about 140 miles apart...
When I started college myself and one of my classmates could not understand one another for the first 6 weeks. We always had to repeat ourselves when talking to one another. Every conversation took twice as long as it should. He's from Donegal and I'm from Wexford, opposite ends of the country.
@@eileenobrien9265 As a person from the US South I had problems conversing with some of my colleagues from Great Britain when they visited. Aside from using different terms for things (auto park for parking lot) we could not understand each other’s accents. We were basically speaking the same language but not comprehending at all. I did better once I was in England. I think I needed to be immersed in the environment for a couple of days before I began to understand. The different terminology did not make life easier. When visiting England in the mid 1990’s, I commented to a male colleague that the women did not wear pants. He was appalled and exclaimed “They most certainly do!” I pointed at the ladies on the street who were all wearing skirts and dresses. He then comprehended I was talking about “trousers” and not what Americans call “panties.” At a convention that was held to promote better communication between the American and British organizations, we nearly had an international incident when the visiting British upper management were told that they were going to be taught how to “shag” as a fun get-to-know each other exercise. In our part of the South, shag is a popular dance specific to our region. This predated the movie The Spy Who Shagged Me and the Americans had no idea what the term shag meant in Britain. When the American manager told the Brits that they were going to teach them how to shag, the Americans were told in no uncertain terms by a senior Brit manager that the Brits did not need Americans teaching them how to shag!!! Loud laughter resulted when the term was interpreted for the Americans!
Haha yes man! I'm from Coleraine (very tippy top of Norn Iron) and I dont even make it to the south of Ireland to before I stop understanding people lol
Every Christmas, my Nan would reminisce about me being in the Nativity play at the age of 4-5. I was too, playing a Wise Man, bringing frankincense. When asked what did I bring I said, pointing at baby Jesus in the manger "I've brought Frank some sense!"
Same problem as us Scots. I was studying in America and was at a hardware store trying to buy a sheet of Mirror, and they couldn't understand what I was asking for. I couldn't say it any other way except "you can see your face in it" 😂
I'm from Northern Ireland (Derry) and I say mirror as murr too, I can't help it 😂 Another one we struggle with here would be the words power and shower. I would pronounce them as 'par' and 'shar'. Yeah our accent isn't normal 🤦
My friend from Texas can't say or hear tbe difference between -ill and -eel. So 'steel beams' (he's in construction) are 'still beams' Throws the contractors off completely ("of course they're still beams!!! Did you think they'd turn Into curtain rods overnight?")
My other half is from County Down in Northern Ireland, same as Jamie Dornan. I always riff on the accent, with sayings like "An aarrr in the paaar shaaar" (an hour in the power shower) to wind him up. He says I'm actually very authentic, haha.
Great clip as always. The problem is, often, that at the end you put up links to other GNS clips that I've already watched. In fact, that I've already JUST watched, that led me to THIS clip. Going round in circles here. Can you tweak the algorithm please?

I asked my Aunt if she was "tarred and feathered" or something and asked if she knew what the heck my cousin was saying. She listened to her and said, "She is tired!"
The problem lies with the Northern Irish accent for mirror sounds like myrrh. I moved from NI to England for university and the amount of times I've had problems with the English not understanding me when I have said mirror is hilarious. I really struggle to pronounce mirror like the English, so when they ask me what a meeeor is I end up repeating meeeor and they remain perplexed. When I desperately try to use an English accent it come across as if I'm mocking people with a speech impediment. I usually fall back on describing it as the thing you see your reflection in.
Until Graham said “Myrrh” at the end. I complete forgot about the story of the 3 Wise Men. Genuinely starting to think it was “gold frankincense and Mirror” 😂
Living in Nova Scotia, Canada (but originally from the North) when I say 'bear' here they either think I'm saying 'brrrr' as in that I'm cold or some think I'm saying 'bird'. :-) I've also had to stop saying 'Dead on!'.
Just heard Jaime say "frankenstein".....frankencense, I think? Wonder if that originated from early French incense?? Franks, they were called that. And the 'encense' seems obvious. I may be completely wrong, of course.
As an Appalachian American (North central WV), how the heck was he supposed to say it?! I guess that Irish accent does still exist here because I understood him perfectly the first time! My Great+ Granddad (Grandfather) actually departed from Londonderry (in Northern Ireland for anyone who doesn't know) in the 1800s (it apparently wasn't a separate country at that time). I don't know if he originated from there.
I don't know about the rest of youse but to me myrrh = mur and mirror = meer-ur So "mur" was perfectly correct. Before you go & tell me that mirror is pronounced 'mur' in NI, I already know that.
