@dlcrz8542You were so lucky! I threw up before I missed a period and had no idea why. I was deathly ill with it for months mostly during the day. I broke all the capillaries around my eyes from retching. I’ve fainted in public with no warning at all. I was getting my 2 yr old a fast food meal and passed out right at the register twice. I wasn’t hungry. The cashier said the color just left your face and you went down. I had one hand on the stroller so she went down with me. They thought I had a heart attack. After the second time, they set her up in a high chair with food and said can we call someone for you. Insane times.

OB nurse here. There are medications for nausea and vomiting if it because unbearable. Especially if you are unable to hold down food or you are losing weight. Talk to your OB to see if that is an option. Crackers, toast, bland carbs, and sips of cold clear drinks can help. Feel better mama!

I believe it's in suppository or actually was in suppository form. When I was pregnant I couldn't even hold down water and was given this. But that was 26 years ago. So I'm sure things might have changed since then. But I do agree she definitely should reach out to her OB. Instead of suffering through this.

Nutritionist & certified lactation counselor here: I worked with many pre-natal mamas. We recommended fresh lemons. Lightly scratch the peel to get the lemon oil on your fingers. Smell your fingers & take slow, deep breaths and exhale slowly. (I saw where you tried the orange) Suggestion: Carry a whole lemon in your purse when you’re out. It can get you over the rough times. It may not take the nausea away, but it significantly improves alleviating nausea. Graze. A few pretzels, toast, spoonful of applesauce, etc. Having 1-2 bites of something that will stay down can be beneficial vs feeling overwhelmed by the thought of a meal. Small, frequent grazing until you the nausea resolves. Always let your OB know if the nausea is prolonged or worsens. I hope you’re feeling better soon and CONGRATULATIONS to both of you! You’re both so lovely! 😊

Almost every weekend my mother had debilitating migraines with vomiting, and my dad would nurse her all day and night, without eating as she couldn't, and keeping the house in the dark. We had to be silent and couldn't help him. It was difficult and sad to see our father not taking care of himself in order to take care of mum.. so please Alessio, love wisely, and eat what you normally would, while caring for the wonderful Jessie. So happy for your graduation to the OB, wish you both to fulfill your dream❤

A few comments here from medical professionals and mamas make sense: keep a variety of foods in the fridge and don’t worry about keeping the breakfast, lunch, dinner schedule. Eat when you’re hungry or craving something. Don’t hold off. Alessio can adhere to a schedule, or eat whenever you do. You both need nutrition and so does the wee one. Try to sleep as much as you can now before the baby comes!

  • @LonnieAvery-f3m
    @LonnieAvery-f3m 4 months ago +282

2 pieces of advice that make that help. First,,” I heard Jessie say “but it’s not dinner time”. If it sounds good in the moment, eat it then. Don’t wait. It doesn’t matter if it’s meal time. You and baby need the nutrients. Second, Jessie said she’s been able to hold off the vomiting until now the end of this video. When I was pregnant I found that had to let myself vomit. If I held it back the nausea was so much worse. So if I just ate a little and then got sick then I could eat more and I was ok. Just ideas. Do as you want and your doctors advise. So happy for you both. Thank you for sharing your journey.

After you vomit : eat. You'll probably feel a little better after vomiting, so eat then. I enjoyed cold milk as it soothed the throat immediately being sick, and it has good nutrients.

Two IVF babies' mom here - I see the love from Alessio wanting to take care of Jessie. This helplessness feeling is good practice for parenthood. You will get more used to doing your best, learning from that, and then adjusting the plan. Agree with the comments about taking medication to help with the worst of the nausea. They were a game-changer. One suggestion is to have a variety of foods available in the fridge ready to go without thinking too much. That can make it easier to get to "yes".

5x mom, here… that first trimester was really tough with the nausea. The lemon suggestions are great- another thing that helped me , and some people thought this was weird, but it helped me every time… was dill pickles with cheddar cheese.. I actually wrapped a slice of cheese around the pickle, and there was something about the salty, acidic pickle and the protein in the cheese that worked together to alleviate the nausea. Also, instead of trying to eat three regular meals a day, spread it out into six or even seven smaller snack sized meals a day. Other than that, each pregnancy was different as far as what other foods I tolerated best. My family and I love chicken. It’s always been a staple in our house- but during my third pregnancy, the sight or smell of chicken whether it was raw or cooked, would send me into immediate dry heaves! It was weird, but for that entire pregnancy, I could not so much as be in the same room as chicken! The day my son was born, all was normal again, and chicken was what I wanted to eat right after labor! Never let your stomach be too full or too empty. - keep it somewhere in between in these first months-keep crackers, small pieces of cheese, grapes, raw carrots and celery with peanut butter, if you like it, and-small amounts of whatever meats that sound good to you that day- keep your meals very simple- don’t do a lot of sauces and heavily spiced foods. When you have to go to work, take a couple of ziplock baggies packed with the snacks you find help keep the nausea at bay, along with a your lemon water, or ginger ale, whatever you find that helps! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Second trimester will be here before you know it!

Feel better soon, Jessie. My morning sickness was all day worse in early evening until month 5 after years of struggles to have a child-(my son is now 10). And cravings was for red meat mostly like burgers and spaghetti with meat sauce and had to have it "now now!" If it takes more than 5 minutes for food cravings to arrive, i did not want it anymore.
And my husband had sympathy cravings and gained 20lbs during my pregnancy.

The nausea first trimester is brutal but it does get better, eat when ever you’re hungry that helps with the nausea, try to keep different foods at hand. Don’t worry about what foods you should eat right now what matters is eating what ever you can keep down, Alesio will figure it out with you, but I strongly recommend him resting and eating too because it does take a toll and he’s going to need to be strong mentally and physically to help you through out the pregnancy. Drinking cold water helps, or sipping on cold electrolytes, that helped with me…also sucking on jolly ranchers ( green apple ) helps. Ask your new ob if you can take Benadryl and vitamin b and if it’s too severe please ask for anti nausea medicine ( zofran or reglan ) praying the morning sickness gets better!

Former OB nurse and former hyperemesis sufferer here. To help combat nausea, Try to get just a small amount of food in, non irritating food for Jesse, whatever that is. Ginger is helpful for a lot of people, so some people keep ginger ale handy, ginger snaps, candied ginger, , etc… My go to was oatmeal, for some reason. Some people find crackers helpful. Or green tea. Then, eat small frequent meals and snacks all day. Nausea gets worse if you overeat or if your blood sugar gets low. Keep snacks in your purse, desk, glove box, wherever you need to stash them so you can always grab something before you get nauseated. Hydration is important too, but don’t try to gulp too quickly if you’re feeling sick, just slow and steady.

You might be feeling even more neauseous because of your endometriosis lesions and stuff. As your womb expands, it stretches out all those lesions and that can be uncomfortable at times and maybe make you feel nauseous. I have endometriosis and experienced some of this during pregnancy, I had a 5cm cyst at the time too and the pregnancy shrunk it :) After 11-13 weeks it gets easier with the nausea. Pregnancy is really healing for your body when you have endo. Sniff some peppermint tea to help the nauesa. Dont drink much peppermint tea though, its not good for pregnancy apparently. But smelling peppermint can help a lot :) and a little ginger is also good, just not too much ginger because you dont want to heat up the body too much. You'll be okay Jessi, it gets easier :) Hang in there.

    Happy for you both!
I can somewhat answer your question about how pregnant Americans deal with severe nausea when working: you pretty much need to be privileged. I had severe nausea, nonstop gagging and dry heaving from 5 weeks pregnant until I gave birth (at 37 weeks). 24 hours after giving birth, I felt totally normal for the first time in nearly 8 months. I worked full time until 36 weeks.
I had to be highly medicated the entire time (Zofran + Reglan), which kept me from fully throwing up but did not stop the nausea and constant gagging.
The privilege part: I was extremely lucky that my job (2021-2022 when I was pregnant) was still work from home due to Covid. I was able to work on my laptop in bed. Because my nausea was so severe, I had to tell my workplace very early on, and I was just lucky to be in a supportive environment. My workplace was also extremely flexible and allowed me to work the hours I could function and nap when my nausea was at its peak. This meant I could work at 4am if I needed to and sleep at 2pm. I didn't need to work consecutive hours.
If any of those workplace conditions had been different, I would have had to quit my job. No doubt about it. Even with all of those privileges, I barely made it through.
America is truly awful for working moms.

❤❤ so happy for you! You're both doing so well. Alessio you are being so compassionate ❤ I think you're both learning that while in you're in it together you are now on different journeys and you will need to navigate it differently. Jessie is right, Alessio you should eat well even if you feel bad Jessie can't eat. She can't also be worrying about your health and wellbeing and you need to stay strong to support... Jessie, stay hydrated eat what you can when you can and get medication if you need it (many pregnancy safe options are available)

Heartbeat and wiggling around! I am crying here. We have walked this walk with you for so long and now we celebrate a new life! Not a fetus but a prayed for and much wanted baby! I know that is the medical term they use but we have wanted this for y'all for so long now and to us it is the child you both have worked so hard to have! Congrats to you both and we are ALL celebrating with you!

OB nurse here…try Vitamin B6 and unison (orange label) together for HE or ginger ale/tea. Staying hydrated is the best thing to help and eat want you feel like you can keep down. It’s okay to take prescription medication (talk to OB for pro’s versus con’s). Congratulations…praying the next 32 weeks fly!

Was the grilled cheese from Sonic everything she hoped for though? I hope so. Someone else already has said to eat what sounds good in the moment.. I will add this... Have LOTS of different quick/snack-y type items on hand. Different kinds of crackers and cheeses, pretzels, peanut butter, popcorn (with different stuff to put on it, like brewer's yeast, cinnamon & sugar mix, etc), bread for toast, etc.. That way, you can eat it while it sounds good, there isn't much (if any) prep, and you'll probably eat smaller portions but more often throughout the day. ALSO, as far as vegetables go, get frozen and if you don't do well with them cooked, try just eating them frozen (another good snack).. I know it sounds weird/gross but they are just vegetables and you might find that cold food is more agreeable to you than hot food.. Can also get frozen fruit and eat it frozen if you do find that it works out for you... Also frozen, eaten frozen, is actually better than cooked (vegetables) because the nutrients are not cooked out of them. Anyways, just some things to consider.
    CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!

As the grandma of a miracle IVF baby, my joy for you is profound. My son and daughter in law went through a similar journey and were able to have a successful pregnancy and birth of a now healthy three year old little boy that is the light of all of our lives. My daughter in law had a difficult pregnancy and birth but has since said everything was well worth it. Remember your prize is waiting for you!

There are many side effects from nausea medication. Please pay attention if u decide to take any. My 5th pregnancy I had HG and lost 37 pds luckily was 25 pds heavier than usual from our 4th pregnancy the year before. So really ended 12 pds down from normal weight but the Dr's all payed attention the whole time. He was 5pds15oz. Full term tho! And I'll take that weight over any meds!

Girllll. I was morning sick the whole day for the first 3 months. I was throwing up just from standing up, or smelling any food, But the moment 2nd trimester hit, I was in heaven, I ate and walked and stayed active. Never liked Taco Bell, but OMG did I LOVEEEE Taco Bell when I was pregnant. Good luck and hope it eases up soon.

Perfect practice to full fledge parenthood - plan and break plans - fun fun fun.
I lost weight or didn’t gain for the first 6 months of my pregnancy and was worried about my baby - the doctor told me that the baby would take from the mother what it needed and sonograms always confirmed a growing, healthy sounding baby. I had about an hour a day with little to no nauseousness and would eat 1 piece of bread folded in half with pimento & cheese. That was my diet up until 6 months. The last 3 months I made up for it - I ate a lot 😊
