The '335 sound' to me, is the sound of someone who loves the notes they play and aren't in a rush to get to the next one. A strat seems to make me play busier for some reason. I''ll never forget that tution video BB King did where he demonstrates playing over a slow blues and you can hear how he makes they guitar breath and sing. 335s have that great simple , warm, soulful tone. I don't have one and I need one one in my life! This was an oustanding demonstration of the magic of the 335.

I had a 335 for about a year. I thought I knew why I was buying it. I eventually sold it but your first ten seconds just explained why I should try again.
Hi,I recently purchased a ES-335 and the sound and versatility of the guitar is awesome. I tried several other guitars before buying it, and for some reason the feeling with the ES-335 is excellent.
As always. Incredible playing and tone. Would you consider doing a video on your gear ? I have a Ox Box and a few amps and would be curious as to how you achieved, besides your playing, your incredible tone.
It’s called mess around with the knobs on your guitar amp and pedal until you hear something you like. Write it down the repeat. Trust me it feels daunting at first and for some odd reason you just flat out will refuse to do it. That’s how I was. Finally I got over it and started twisting and turning every knob to the point I started twisting people’s nipples until I got the right tone coming out of their speaker.
Or perhaps a Guild Starfire, or one of Ibanez's fine semi-hollows. On and on. There's a lot of great options in the segment, and certainly cheaper than Gibson. I had Sheraton II that was just fine.
I also have an HR Fusion. One of my most favorite players among the 20 or so guitars I have owned. Lovey tone and not terribly expensive (when you can find one).
When I think 335 I think Clapton. I love mine and use it cranked with an AC30 and just can not imagine not playing it through a cranked amp. Clapton's tone on Crossroads and his tone on From The Cradle with his 335 are the absolute pinnacle of guitar tone to my ears.
I have some great guitars, Gibsons, Fenders. Martins .. love Telecasters .. but .. my '81 blonde dot neck always sits out ready to play. Thank god I had the foresight to pick it up used 40 yrs ago. Bonus was whoever traded it did so with an actual 50's case in decent shape. In 84, it was cool but now .. those cases themselves are $$$! Best sounding and playing guitar I have. Now .. if I only could sound as good as Jack .. work in progress!
Jack…….Just got to love ‘product placement’ in RUclips music clips………though I agree with every positive feature you have illustrated about the Gibson 335……..I already own one ! I bought it ten years ago……and it’s a very special guitar…….I’m left handed, somI was lucky to find one.
I went through several humbucker style guitars before finally picking up a 335. When I finally did I immediately knew it was the double humbucker guitar I had been looking for both tonally and comfort wise. I strictly played acoustic for the first 10 years of my guitar playing so being able to rest my entire arm on the guitar is SO much more comfortable and stable for me as opposed to having to support your arm a little more with other guitars like a les Paul. The 335 can get you close enough to tele tones with some twang and close enough to les Paul tones plus the middle has its own vibe. Gosh I love mine (Eastman T486). That and a strat is all I’ll ever need
Oh Lordy - Jack you and the devil - 😈 been tapping on my shoulder to get one of these! Seriously have been looking at the 339 since I am height challenged and smallish. Don't want a studio... 335 just too big- please continue the talks on this line and would love your thoughts on the 339s
I never thought I would fall in love with a 335 until on a whim I had the music store sales rep allow me to play a used one through a used Fender Super Reverb…. It was the total bomb for me… I just have to get approval for the bank loan..
As an owner of both (each being a 50s original), I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. They are extremely similar, albeit they play differently - much better upper access on the 335!
I always wanted a 335 but never got the chance to find one i could afford so on one of my birthdays my wife gave me a 2016 Gibson Midtown Deluxe which is very close to a 335 & probably the closest i will get to actually having one. It's a fine guitar done in a Root Beer Finish & a set of Burst buckers for pickups. For whatever reason Gibson chose to discontinue it & stick with the Midtown Custom i don't know less it was the price which she did not pay as it's a used guitar, but it sings like a real 335 & the quality is top notch where the Custom is the basic stripped-down model. Kudos to my bandmate for helping her not get ripped off by going with her to the music store. It may not be a real 335 but it's a close as i will most likely get to owning one & it sounds great. Anyone want to hear it i have an Audio post & a nice shot of it i will leave a link & any comment is more than welcomed. Both are great instruments. ruclips.net/video/lJelsuT1UxI/видео.html
I have a Collings i35LC with Throbaks, an awesome guitar in every way, though at times I wish I had a good Gibson 335 when I want a more traditional, forgiving, not so thick and bold sound.
You're peaching to the choir in my case, Jack; I have two I-35LCs (is yours an LC or regular?), and I've never played better electrics. One has Throbaks, like yours, and the other has Lollar Imperials--somewhat different sounds, but both very tasty. Love your playing today, as always!
335 is a Swiss Army knife. You can dial up anything from Arctic Monkeys to Led Zeppelin. From the Smiths to the Beatles. From Oasis to LC Steely Dan. I live near Wildwood guitars and I've got a Viking red 1961 model that I've had my eye on

I haven't yet had the chance to check out the subtle differences, e.g. ES-335 vs. Epiphone Sheraton, but the latter already made me very happy back when (my first 'legit' 'jazz' guitar). Amplified electric guitar and recorded audio can be manipulated easily. Do you play or just listen to music? The blindfold test is just silly, really. Are you suggesting that a guitar, is a guitar, is a guitar? Different guitars can inspire new music from the creators. Players know. Bill is correct.

How sick is Jack's playing! MERCIFUL!
Your smootheness of playing is stellar. Each note has room to breathe and to develop its beauty. I assume you can do this on any guitar ...
Your phrasing is a continuous source of inspiration 👍👍👍👍👍👍
