Alex Hernandez Actually in most cases, both guitars are in the same tuning. I know with Breaking Benjamin, they have all their guitars in the same tuning every song, if I'm not mistaken, except maybe Rain.
It's not 100% neccesary, but the band plays their drop A# songs (Diary of Jane, Until The End, etc) with baritones. They have extended scale lengths so they handle the lower tunings with more ease. You can get the same effect with using thicker stirngs on a regular guitar, but it won't sound as good. I personally noticed an improvement when I got my 27'' baritone Jackson for lower tunings.
