I just accepted a position in a PCU and I'm excited about it! I figure as a new grad it will be a nice way to set up good habits, learn ACLS and really get the rhythms down, and segue into an ICU after a few years. I can't believe I got the job, and then this video comes out. Perfect timing. Thank you for all of your videos!
I am a 1 year old ICU nurse I went straight from school to the ICU... I felt in love with it, the more critical the more I want those patient. For me is all about the experience and knowledge you obtain as an ICU nurse. My critical thinking in only one year is above my expectations. We have an amazing team, and excellent leadership. I am blessed to work in what was once a dream. Sarah you were with me during my bachelors and I never stopped watching your videos, going back next year for my master's and I am glad you will be coming alone those 3 years. 💕💕💕
I'm in my 3rd week on a step-down unit and I couldn't imagine working anywhere else. I've been a health unit coordinator, patient care assistant and now a RN on step down!! I'd eventually like to go to the ICU, but this is a perfect segue!!
You've created many knowledgable nurses around the world to save lives. Incredibly hardwork, time and effort and that is extraordinary. Such a beautiful nurse indeed, a great mentor and a great leader of all nurses in our new generation. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Just passed my NCLEX (2nd time around), and for some reason, my first interview went great. She put me on all PCU interviews with the directors. So, thank you for this video. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much for all you do! I watched your videos to study for the NCLEX, I passed in April. Tomorrow will be my very first day as a new grad nurse on PCU in a critical care residency to prepare for ICU! 😍😍👩🏼⚕️ I’m really excited but wasn’t sure what to expect on PCU, I’m so glad I came across this video
I just accepted a position on a PCU and I am beyond excited about it. I start in two weeks!!! This is a chance to get my foot into the door to transfer into the ICU later on. I can't wait to learn and see so much! I am so thankful for all of your videos, they helped me so much throughout all of nursing school!
Thank you so much Sarah! You have literally been a saving grace during my collegiate nursing career! I just accepted my first PCU position as a new grad and I am overjoyed! I watched your video for insight and all the reasons you described for loving PCU are the reasons I accepted the position! Thank you so much for everything you do! Many blessings to you and your family
I just accepted a position in a PCU for thoracic surgery and pulmonary transplant and I am so excited! Perfect timing with this video, thanks for the insight!
Thanks so much for this! I start on a PCU/Intermediate Care Unit next month and I’m so excited! I wanted a challenge with acute care patients but I didn’t want to throw myself too far into ICU yet because I know myself and what I think I could handle. I think it’s perfect! I’m so excited! 😃💜💜
I just accepted a job offer for ICU stepdown, I graduate in 4 months and I'm already nervous about starting! Thank you for this video it gave me a better understanding of PCU and the type of patients I'll see !
I recently accepted a position as a new grad on an ICU/trauma step-down unit at a Level 1 trauma center and I am SOOO excited! I’m scared to death (in a good kind of way) and I know it was the right decision. I want to move into an ICU role, but I didn’t want to do so right off the bat as a brand new nurse. I take my NCLEX in May and start my job in July so it’s all quickly approaching. Thank you for all your videos - they’ve been so helpful to get me through nursing school and I know they’ll help me on the NCLEX as well!
Thank you for your wonderful explanation of Progressive Care. Progressive Care unit sounds a little challenging and exciting at the same time. Having the chance to really put all the knowledge in action assessing frequently at bedside sounds amazing. Plus a very rich learning experience.
Hello! It would be great if you make a video about the differences between ER and ICU nurses: work flow, organization, goals of care, personality type.
*I've been watching your videos for some time now and I'm truly grateful that I found this channel! Thanks to you. I also started my RUclips channel to share my nursing journey especially as a foreigner in Finland ❤️ I think sharing stories like ours in this digital age is very important. Thanks so much for all the valuable content you put up.**#greatnurses**❤️*
Thank you for the explanation - I am not a nurse and find it difficult to talk to nurses because it seems like it is always their "first day with the patient"
I accepted a position on a Telemetry unit. My hospital treats our unit as a step-down as well. I felt like it was a good fit for me. :) Hope to really hone my EKG skills here!
I am a nurse graduate & just accepted a position in a nurse residency program at a level 1 trauma hospital in STC Transplant Progressive Care. Very excited but also honestly a little nervous. Looking forward to learning so much. Thank you as always for your helpful videos. You helped me so much throughout nursing school. 🙏❤️🩺
I plan to do med surge for my first year as a new grad and then go up to step down. After that i can decide weather 1. do i stay in step down or 2.am i ready to go into ICU or ER
I don't know about your hospital, but in our med surg I would say 1/10 is walkie talkie. The other day I had 6 pts, 2 where COVID, one COVID was confused, a 30 year old in ETOH withdrawal who was in restraints by the end of my shift, and two fresh surgicals, one of which had high blood loss and many cardiac comorbidities, and another who had been there for a month with failure to thrive and was total care. I don't know what med surg she is describing. it sounds like our obs/extended stay unit. Maybe our hospital is just different?
So I was on a "complex medical" unit and most patients were def not walkie talkies, they had tube feeds, heparin drips, wound vacs, some had tele so I guess we were a stepdown 😂 also 6-7 (or more?!) is a horrible ratio. I hope that's not true for most hospitals. If we had 6 it was a really bad day.
Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for watching. Don't forget:

I love your scrubs! It's beautiful!
It’s interesting learning about different roles nurses can act in. Nice video 👏

I secured a job as a PCU nurse. I am excited and nervous.
I work PCU and we have to take 5 pts. This includes, drips, bipaps, stable vents, NSTEMI's, everything. Its crazy
Wow thats alot!!! I thought most step downs were 1:3 ratio
That's med surg in nyc
@@latriceralston7617 most stepdowns are 3-4 patient to one nurse. If it’s a non union unit there could be 5 patients
Same situation where I work as well.
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for the video
Great information!
Can you please explain to me what an advanced surgical nurse is? Thanks!
I just wonder how much patients PCU have max. Cause med surg with 6 patients is not it for me
I plan to do med surge for my first year as a new grad and then go up to step down. After that i can decide weather 1. do i stay in step down or 2.am i ready to go into ICU or ER

Hmmm neither sound right for me. I wanna do L&D.
I work on a med surg unit one of our patients has been there 70 days 😅

Very beautiful woman. Does a wonderful job with her videos. Did I mention how beautiful she is? Thank you for all the hard work you do
