I went way back in 1997. Go contract for a while and settle into a utility. Keep quiet, don’t talk crap, that’s the fast line to getting unemployed in the line trade. Do your job and when ya don’t like something just smile and say Ok. You’ll do fine and be making 200 a year soon.

Been there. Never outright walked on the line. Was either in a lift or hanging off the tower on a ladder or off steel. But I've been so high that one of my jobs was changing out the lights that were installed to keep planes from hitting the lines

@@makingadjustments except frays are signs of excessive wear, and I have a hard time believing that the sheeth of the rope can be that frayed without the core having taken any damage. Plus the sheeth can move past the point of abrasion, concealing it to later parties.

So what. I worked with a female lineman for the last 5 years. She did her job and was a Foreman on a trouble crew. She worked graves for shift fills, probably in the 1500 or so hours of OT a year range. She was probably one of the highest earners in my company, over 300k a year. She went through the shoulder surgeries and knee replacements just like the rest of us.

I worked on the roofs of multi story commercial buildings for nearly 30 years fixing & maintaining heating & air conditioning equipment. I used to be afraid of heights but I got used to it pretty quickly. Nothing like what these guys are doing. These type of men are what special forces, green berets, astronauts and outright heroes are made of. You make me proud to be a human being - proud of you. God and angels be with you all of your life, and thank you for a job WELL done.

I tried doing this for like a year when I was a youngster and I wasn’t cut out it was just too tuff it’s all outdoor also. I had to quit and get into plumbing but that’s a really good job though.

I’d like to see a woman do this since they talk about being equal to me. I travelled round the world for 10 years working on high tension cables. Never say a female rigger in 98 countries I visited.
Cable gets put underground.
Lines get out overhead.
We never call them high tension. High voltage.

Electrical line worker. Yes we do have to go up to insane heights. Our regular pay is between $68-87 hourly. You also get cash perdían and most of the time you’re always working with new equipment. So it’s not that bad as it seems.

I was a HT Line Engineer for 22 years. I miss the heights, fun and challenge. I don't miss my crazy ex workmates at all.

This job, under water welding, working in a steel mill/foundry,under ground mining working on a oil rig are some of the most dangerous jobs on earth , but they make our modern world possible 🙏
