Just a lot more room for improvement from the player.
However, Mario Kart has much better item balance. If you fall behind, you can catch back up by means of items, and same for if you get nailed and fall behind. In CTR, you get nailed at the start of the race and the other players have some clue of what a "speed" is... Welp, you're last.
I'm almost there too it's such a satisfying thing, and most people don't realize how easy it is as long as you play your 30 min daily's especially on weekends
I still have a long way to go. I play enough to have all the characters unlocked. But not much else. Plus I still need those platinum relics and oxide time trials.
CTR similar to Mario Kart, I nearly had a heart attack. Also I made one of my friends play adventure mode on this game, now CTR is his favorite kart racer, used to be Mario Kart.
@@IERServer I swear, after racing on that track for about 50 times I only was able to get on that shortcut for about 20% of all the attempts I tried. And yes, I tried every lap.

CTR is a lot different from other cart racers. It’s way more skill based! I’ve noticed how much better I’ve gotten with practice. I played CTR and CNK for fun before and tried the N. Trophy times... it thought they were impossible to beat lol. But now that I’ve played CTR NF way more, I’ve beaten all his times and almost all of Oxide’s times too.
How about the roster? CTR:NF basically included unlikely candidates that their equivalents are unlikely to do. For example, Sonic is hardly gonna bring back the classic characters like Fang the Sniper to the modern games while Mario just make a new character and dumps them immediately, like the Mario Party hosts. Crash making the CNK bosses playable is like Sonic bringing back the random bosses from the Dreamcast era, like Void, to be playable as and making Tawna playable is like making Candy Kong playable. In fact, when I play as the Norms, it's the closest thing for me and some Sonic fans to play as Lumina and Void or Illumina.
I would say Zavok could count, but sega's been shoving him down our throats recently even though no one really cares about him. Big Norm has more fans than Zavok
It's no surprise to see why. This game feels like a generic Kart racer so anyone can jump in and have fun, but because of the high skill ceiling the replayability is just there because if you want to improve, you can IMMEDIATELY see how far you've come. It's very fun just by going really fast, and you always feel like you're in control aside from times where you get hit by items, or poorly thought out track designs (one famous example being Sewer Speedway where instead of needing speed, it's a complete crapshoot to do the shortcut, easily a bad change.) Only bad thing I can say is that doing challenges arent all that exciting. Doing Velo Cup is fine, but why do I need to do trick jumps with Komodo Joe when he's not remotely related to the Grand Prix theme? Some of these challenges you have to go out of your way to do. They're all easy to do if you DONT play the game normally, which I feel is poorly thought out. Some of these are good, but the majority I feel that they exist only as a time sink
Kyo Tanaka Yeah they need to reconsider the challenges... honestly cosmetic specific ones aren’t ideal. I also think the pro challenges should be bi weekly (So a refresh halfway through the Grand Prix) and that there should be more themed challenges (this is where the new cosmetics could come into play). Quick challenges should be merged with daily challenges... as they are daily themselves... and instead be replaced with a daily login reward... which is triggered by connecting to the server (granting a mix of wumpa coins and nitro fuel, compounding weekly for consecutive logins). Lastly they need to make the cosmetics with the nitro bonus not stack, so as to allow more variety in online player cosmetics choices (just have a theme challenge require it instead)
Trikee cart is the coolest of them all :) And i can say for myself at first when i got the game, i was really bad at it. But after playing the game for a time now, i have improved some what as well. DragonKing391 same here bout N.Tropy and his skin. Just unlocked it couple of hours ago. Never hoped to get it, I was usually looking at it and go "well, never wear this one"

I just remembered how Insomniac implemented turbo in the races of their games. Specifically in Spyro 3 and in Ratchet and Clank. Turbos that can be used any time, but are limited and require using tricks to fill. Not as risky as in CTR, but still requires some extra skill to perform, which is why it's so good. The fact that it's not cheap.
This is just scratching the surface. Talking about the old CTR here. There are even more things to learn and grow as a player there. Speedghosts, froggying, great even harder shortcuts, the old Ultra Sacred Fire, and much more. Talking as a hardcore old CTR player here, what i have seen from the videos of Nitro Fueled, the inputs and actions that you do , do not seem to matter as much as in the old one. It is not quite as precise where you land from jumps and when you jump in a lot of cases. In the old one, absolutely EVERYTHING counts. You have absolutely everything to improve. To learn abit more about those, see AleMastroianni video: Why you suck at CTR#2 | Crash Cove. Great video!
Some points are oversold here. This game still technically has less depth than other kart racers which were shown and mentioned here. It's moreso the skill ceiling, the power-sliding + reserves, and the lack of speed difficulties that separates this from other kart racers, outside the few unique shortcut concepts the game has. It's worth noting, however, that both MK games and TSR any particular other kart racers are highly competitive as well.
I'm so glad you're back in fine form CGE! With a video essay no less! I absolutely love nitro fuelled and it's the best kart racer I've ever played! It's just brilliant!
What makes CTR so great is that it's easy to learn, but hard to master. Certain tracks are just difficult to pull off certain jumps and shortcuts. You have to know the speed and the angle to get it just right and ensure victory, especially in online mode.
so much more complex than Mario Kart 8 and this game came out 20 years ago I just don't understand how people like Mario Kart so much when its so...barebones. Double Dash was probably my favorite because of the 2 person kart mechanic
Mario Kart can actually become really competitive against good people, and I agree Mario kart double dash was one of the best (and DS) cause those two had the most skill, Mario Kart 8 200 cc has a lot of skill though because of the crazy shortcuts you can pull off now. You should look at shortcut videos or 200cc time trials, they can be literally crazy and make you much faster and better at the game. I like Crash a lot too though, I actually play that more than Mario kart now. It's fun, fast, and competitive and Mario kart 8 is getting old, I need a 9. Just wanted to say Mario Kart isn't always easy though.
@@imnottsuki7978 I agree. Until Nintendo decides to make MARIO KART 9 for Switch, which I hope they do, CTR Nitro Fueled is officially my go-to racing game for Switch.
Does anyone know if they are gonna bring back the summer bundles that had n trance and dingodile skins? And coco’s princess skin and stickers? Because thats the only things i missed buying from the pit stop
when I first played the remake I notice the sacred blue flame from hot air skyway and my ultra instinct taught me how to maintain it and figure out how to drive faster :O
I've always said CTR is the melee of kart racers. It's tight controls and fast paced mechanics has birthed a competitive community within itself. The community will grow even further with future events and patches.
CTR stands out over many kart games by how improved the mechanics and enhances the gameplay. But also that is a remake from a racing game. I mean, how many remakes from a racing game exists? And, while Mario Kart was out each 2-3 years, other racers were relatively new but lackbusters. CTR is a reinvention, that was dead until now.
I absolutely love this game but I have noticed some issues here lately that I wanted to see if you had as well. Lately I have been completing some Grand Prix challenges but at the end of the race/cup it does not show the challenge completed and no nitro except for race completion. But when I got back to Grand Prix menu it shows completed. 🤔 just shorting my nitro. Love the channel bro keep it up and congrats on kiddo#2
I just had this debate with a friend on why I prefer this racer over others. I had to explain the powerslide mechanic, and the skill it takes to get really good. He's never played any CTR game, so I'm not sure I got through to him.
Can someone help me? I'm currently having problems with the pitstop on CTR: NF, I just can't buy N.Trance, it doesn't appear available for purchase on Shop, Alone or Bundle, it doesn't appear. The thing that makes it stand out more then other karts is that if come with the mentality that's it's the same as the other kart racera prepare to get Shrekt in online, adventure mode, time trials, and platinum relics. If you don't know how to keep the many types Sacred Fire or have the knowledge to know to constantly drift boosting is the only way to have any chance online, then stop playing the game's online feature get yourself on time trials and keep doing them til you gold. You also NEED to know every shortcut to be able even compete online against other people who already know them, to summarize everything you either know all the mechanics or you will have zero chance with Online and hard mode, Oxide Time Trials.
Similar to mario kart HA HAHA HAHAHA! Even in the basic levels i got my butt kicked acting like it was mario kart. You simply cant approach a turn, even a somewhat mild turn, the same way you do mario kart. If you do i guarantee youre gonna slam into it. CTR is the only kart game to compete with mario kart. And its thanks to both really solid controls and actually properly balancing the tracks. Theres always a track or two you hate seeing (dragon mines....) but almost half of the mario kart tracks i hate playing, while only 2-3 CTR ones bug the crap out of me.
This game is amazing. I've just been playing it SO much, I'm starting to get a bit burned out, especially since I got all the rewards for the current season, last week. I hope they consider a paid expansion with a bunch of new tracks. 1 every month isn't going to be enough and I want to keep playing this for a long time. I will say, the amount of content, racers, karts, etc. is pretty amazing, I just want more of it.
Mario Kart allows for a lot of growth as well. Mario Kart 8 is amazing. To improve theres a real emphasis on drifting as much as possible and improving racing lines. Plus theres a traction system to allow for, some set ups work better off road than others e.t.c. Then theres the different drifting styles with regular karts and inside drifting bikes. I'm so glad we have both if these games today👍 CTR is such a classic and is so robust as a kart racer. Loving every minute of it👍
Got an idea... How would you feel about displaying the sticker you are using on the character icons during races? I think it’d be a great way to show off the stickers you have. Could also be great for esports... displaying the flags.
as a game there's a few rough edges like collision detection, online visual discrepancy, missile tracking jank (at least compared to original CTR missile) compared to Mario Kart but core mechanic wise its a blast to play that I definitely enjoy more than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe racing Digital Tropys online and stuff is a hoot
@@DylanKurosakiOfficial they're all in the game but CNK tracks are not in adventure mode. Some tracks have been altered because the game has no antigravity. There's also a new track released every month for free... and so far seems good.
So, i know i've been a bother in the ass lately... but PS4 players out there... do ya tried Time trials? Is it still crashing and has the fatal bug as of today??? or I can TRULY risk it and unlock N.tropy once and for all..
I would still encourage CTR fans to check out the two 2d Mario karts which are more skill reliant. A large portion of Mario kart players wrongfully say they are made redundant by newer entries.
@@deoxysandmew2162 I just played the original PS1 CTR and taking the shortcut there was much easier since it has a noticable bump to jump from. The current Blizzard Bluff's fence shortcut requires a trick that is only properly accessible by having yellow fire AND hopping twice to pass it.
@@ixiv_w well to be fair... the OG version of it... to me is... random... as in.. unpredictable. Here, i also noticed that Sacred Fire + 2 hops is most accurate way to clear that "shortcut" but then again... its still doesnt work all times... like for me... 75% outta 100...
The short answer in all of this is that it's for pro kart racing vets. On that note, I'm so good that I beat the adventure mode on hard in only two hours. Yeeee HAW!!
I loved CTR as a kid, but nowadays after playing it again, I think the offline is what I enjoy more, the online......is just too much for me, Everyone being such masters at the controls, knowing every little secret, puts them miles ahead of me, a more casual player, and it just isn't fun to always come in last or near it, I try to maintain speed boosts whenever possible but, it's just never enough, CTR Online just isn't for me, I'd probably have more fun with MK8's online TBH....But that's just me, more power to the masters I guess.... Hell the freaking N.Tropy time trials are a gigantic pain in the ass to do, they especially require you to be a freaking master of shortcuts it feels like....
Blue fire is gained through pads before most major jumps, so you've likely got it before, but simply didn't have the reserves (gained by simply powersliding) to keep it when you landed.
I’m a one handed player ... and a right hand dominant... I hit L on my left hand (which I can’t move it) and R on my right hand... and I’m a Switch player.
I'm geting better but I'm still struggling online and in the time triles alot of those by passes I can't pull off and will take me ages to get my head around them after all I can bearly power slide successfully and I use coco which isn't saying alot.
N,J, Fox Not sure if this is something you know already but... The trick to building up reserves is getting “perfect” mini turbos while drifting. You can see this using the third option for the boost gauge. Then with this you’ll likely be able to make all the shortcuts, and if you need to know where those are... oxide uses them or just look up a compilation of them.
I tried to get my brother into this game... and well he basically said that the drifting was confusing and the controls were terrible because it wasn’t like other racing games, like Mario kart or Forza... All I could say to him was git gud. All I could do was shake my head.
The funny thing: He likes competitive games and even tries to be competitive in non competitive games. I totally thought he would’ve been all over this game.
Roger Jr. Honestly he only likes playing games he can beat me in... and those are only the games I don’t play... so yeah pretty much. As cheesy as can be.
Well CTR DOES have difficulty modes. But if you insist on playing like Mario kart, then even on easy mode for CTR, it will almost certainly guarrantee a loss regardless.
Anyone actually played the wiiu version of Mario Kart and remember the skill based "Fire Hoping" mechanic that got removed from Deluxe? Also no hate please, I'm just trying to see if there are actually people who play both Mario and Crash here like me.
I remember it and I loved it. It opened up a higher skill cap. When it was removed in deluxe it just felt bland. Deluxe has a low skill cap which drew me away from it.
Don't you just hate getting caught in a Lap 1 pile up, and watching the lucky dude in first place get an easy victory because everyone mistook the race for a battle arena? Vice versa, when I'm that lucky SOB that barely escapes the pile up and achieves an unopposed win, it just feels like a hollow victory. Also, here's some silly ideas for some online modes that would trade competition for cooperation: Rhythm Races and Team Boss Challenges ~In a Rhythm Race, each player would be assigned a track that they would have to try their best to trace perfectly, while hopping, sliding, and brake-turning when prompted. It would have racers driving alongside each other and in specific patterns, hopping and sliding in unison to simulate a sort of kart ballet. Afterwards, the whole thing would be played back in a bird's eye view to show everyone whether or not they gave a decent performance, or if they did a sloppy job. However it turns out, it should make for something mesmerizing, or hilarious to behold. The more accurate the racers did collectively, the greater reward potential. ~In a Team Boss Challenge, a very large mech-type boss will slowly advance on the track while attacking players. It's your job as a team to prevent this menace from reaching the end of the track by nailing him on all side, whether it be launching missiles and bombs at him from behind, dropping beakers and crates in his path, or ramming into him with a mask. The rewards depend on how much health you manage to take off of him by the time the challenge is over. Defeating him and preventing him from reaching the end of the track will give the highest reward potential, with a bonus depending on how early on the track he was before your team brought him down.
Yeah Item balance needs a lot of work. They have the racer down, but items are just as important. Either they need to be better at slowing first, or get players back in the action more quickly.
My favorite game on the Nintendo Switch, bar none. Even with its issues, and they need to be adressed, not denying that, I want to keep playing the game. I got the Digital N. Tropy skin and Platinum Relic paintjob by the way. After a lot of anger and determination. All I have to do now is wait for the Champion Kart so I can flex my gaming God status. *entire lobby fills with Digital N. Tropys in Platinum Relic-colored Champion Karts* Mommy, I'm scared.
I'm gonna have to oppose some terms you've explained. Just because the game has "better" controls doesn't mean is the best kart racer that exists. You see, both Mario Kart and CTR has a bunch of differences. Mario Kart is all about bringing newer players and older players to have new experience. CTR does the same, but brings more veteran players than new players. Mario Kart has more items than CTR and that's true. CTR has unique items that can't be equal to its competitors. Has flavor in them even when collecting Wumpa fruits. Mario Kart can't even grant you that. MK Is straightforward. CTR is easy, but hard to master. Drifting and boosting mechanic is what literally winning online matches than items knocking opponents out of place. At least MK has balanced what speed is since there are items that can follow you constantly than CTR. CTR has adventure and boss races which is really great and that's what stands out more than MK. MK is just cup races with no unique twists. They keep repeating that for years and it does gets enough. What I'm saying is that both games deliver something different to the table. One being complex and the other one being too easy. For me, a game that becomes too easy like Mario Kart makes me not want to play it for a while. It doesn't even have challenges, rewards, theme skins or something like CTR delivers. It's more of the same, but I can't hate the game. It's one of my favourite #1 spot of kart racers, but I'd say if there are more CTR games being developed and goes extremely well on the market, I'd say MK could lose the #1 spot for me. I see lots of criticism people saying that MK sucks and here is why you should respect it: 1. Nintendo pioneered kart racing (please do correct me which one was the actual kart racer even if it isn't first party). 2. Without SMK, CTR wouldn't even exist or any other kart racer similar to those games. Just those two reasons. Nobody has to take my opinion. It's just something that I needed to say. I have no intentions of changing minds. Everyone can have their opinions.

I've always wondered how some people in the game can be go fast that they can almost overlap people. I look forward to seeing your blue flame video to know how to go faster and how to stay that way.
Theres also hackers, not just skill.
@@oukn6293 Nope, no hackers report so far, they use Skill, i know because i can like them too but i dont want too, go search tutorial "CTR usf" or "CTR speedrun", and you will know how they do that, i can do that like they did but my fingers will broken or i will get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome 😂 you will know why after you watched their videos and try for yourself
@@JendralHizuPung you haven't run into them yet , you'll see if you play enough
This game has a pretty steep learning curve but it’s so worth it and satisfying, I still suck but I’m still learning new things like the blue fire etc
The drift boost mechanic is the main thing, and then the stages filled with diffucult shortcuts.
Great vid :) Looking forward to the speed boosting guide, I recently picked the game myself so I'm still learning
What makes CTR so great is that it's easy to learn, but hard to master. Certain tracks are just difficult to pull off certain jumps and shortcuts. You have to know the speed and the angle to get it just right and ensure victory, especially in online mode.
so much more complex than Mario Kart 8
and this game came out 20 years ago
I just don't understand how people like Mario Kart so much when its so...barebones. Double Dash was probably my favorite because of the 2 person kart mechanic
No need to hate on mario
Roger Jr. Saying we think CTR is better is not hating on it.
I never said I hated it, I just find it boring
I bought it when i noticed u can ACTUALLY play as Oxide in this game and drive HIS kart. Unlike the original when it was only possible with a Mod
I didn't even realise that until you pointed that out.
1:08 Check it out! It's a bikie in a Trikee!
Pretty confident you already made this video.

Can someone help me?
I'm currently having problems with the pitstop on CTR: NF, I just can't buy N.Trance, it doesn't appear available for purchase on Shop, Alone or Bundle, it doesn't appear. I already bought all the Trophy Girls Bundles and now the bundles tab is showing empty :(.
Will I have to be forced to buy everything from the shop to have a chance to buy it? Or do I have to do something else?
What's worse is that N.Trance was the character I wanted most ...
I will greatly appreciate any help :)
I loved the video x)

CTR has Better characters, better tracks, better music and better mechanics. Mario kart better items.
Uhmm? Mario kart ds, 7, and Wii had some AMAZING tracks and music.
@@imnottsuki7978 better characters is something way too subjective.
Better items?
If by better you mean more sure... but the items in CTR are solid and fairly balanced...
Honestly wish there were fewer missiles though.
40k already, cant wait till your displaying that RUclips play button
Title: What Makes It Stand Out From Other Kart Racers?
Me: bcs it has woahs and TNTs.
I just bought the game last week can anyone tell me how to unlock the nitro kart characters?? I hot the disc version if that matters or not lol
as a game there's a few rough edges like collision detection, online visual discrepancy, missile tracking jank (at least compared to original CTR missile) compared to Mario Kart
but core mechanic wise its a blast to play that I definitely enjoy more than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
racing Digital Tropys online and stuff is a hoot
Always a gamble jumping off a ramp- will I crash into f***ing nothing? Or will I get to go into the air?
The fact that CTR has a whole Hub in the adventure mode. Man Mario Kart could never amount to Crash.
The fact CTR has an adventure mode.
This idea was inspired from Diddy Kong Racing another fantastic kart racer (the original version on N64).
The handling and speed is what makes this game gold, it feels so good, Mario Kart feels SO slow.
Great vid as always, keep it up man
Just a question is all 3 CTR games in Nitro Fueled
Logic Lunacy Are the CNK tracks in adventure mode or do you have to download them
@@DylanKurosakiOfficial they're all in the game but CNK tracks are not in adventure mode. Some tracks have been altered because the game has no antigravity. There's also a new track released every month for free... and so far seems good.
Logic Lunacy okay. How does someone find the CNK tracks
@@DylanKurosakiOfficial they're single races, cup races, split screen, online, battle mode, time trials, CTR challenge races, relics, crystal grab.... basically everything but adventure
Logic Lunacy I wish they would make new worlds and add in the CNK tracks so that the game would be longer
I'm a new subscriber, and I wasn't expecting this at all, this was a great experience, and Crash Team Racing is the best! 😄😁👍
When the next season?
So, i know i've been a bother in the ass lately... but PS4 players out there... do ya tried Time trials? Is it still crashing and has the fatal bug as of today??? or I can TRULY risk it and unlock N.tropy once and for all..
@Crystal Phoenix Dang.... thanks for info... im glad I havent risked it yet.
im so disappointed that it hasnt been fixed yet...
The Insanely awesome boost system for starters 😁👌
I would still encourage CTR fans to check out the two 2d Mario karts which are more skill reliant. A large portion of Mario kart players wrongfully say they are made redundant by newer entries.
You forgot to take the fence shortcut on Blizzard Bluff. Just saying... 😏
im surprised that this shortcut is in the game... as I dont think it wass intentional one in the OG CTR tbf...
@@deoxysandmew2162 as long as you figured out when and where to hop twice you'll get 100% accuracy! Good luck.
Hype for the Back in Time Grand Prix 😎
podrias usar clips actuales de ctr POR FAVOR
psd: viva mexicou
Estoy de acuerdo
I caught blue fire once and only once. That was with my race against Pinstripe.
Blue fire is gained through pads before most major jumps, so you've likely got it before, but simply didn't have the reserves (gained by simply powersliding) to keep it when you landed.
Welcome back!
CTR is the evolution of kart racers! Other kart racers, not so much. XD.
which makes it ahead of its time since it originally released 20 years ago
@@red5robb1 Agreed.
I bet I’m the only right-handed player who slides with L1 and boosts with R1.
N,J, Fox
Not sure if this is something you know already but...
The trick to building up reserves is getting “perfect” mini turbos while drifting. You can see this using the third option for the boost gauge.
Then with this you’ll likely be able to make all the shortcuts, and if you need to know where those are... oxide uses them or just look up a compilation of them.
CTR over Mario Kart!
*claps*
The best Kart Racing game I’ve played in my life
It's the only kart game that can make me play every day and not get tyred of it. Back N. Time Grand Prix can't come soon enough.
CTR being more skill based also makes items way more infuriating and unfair compared to Mario Kart. I kinda miss holding bananas behind me...
When's the Next grand prix.
I think it's early in August if I'm not mistaken, though considering this one ends in only one week it may be even earlier then that.
Yeah! With baby characters Baby T, Baby Crash, and Baby Coco but I’m still need Komodo Moe.
You are a god at this game
Welcome back :)
I tried to get my brother into this game... and well he basically said that the drifting was confusing and the controls were terrible because it wasn’t like other racing games, like Mario kart or Forza...
All I could say to him was git gud. All I could do was shake my head.
Beat him hard.
The funny thing:
He likes competitive games and even tries to be competitive in non competitive games.
I totally thought he would’ve been all over this game.
@@OmeganKryist hes a worthless piece of cheese
Roger Jr.
Honestly he only likes playing games he can beat me in... and those are only the games I don’t play... so yeah pretty much. As cheesy as can be.
Bro i got in a lobby u. U fast asf
I'll play Mario Kart again if they have Megumi ❤️
@@stealthxg5045 honestly same! It made the orginal so much more skill based!
It stands out cuz it just WOWs!
Also, here's some silly ideas for some online modes that would trade competition for cooperation: Rhythm Races and Team Boss Challenges
~In a Rhythm Race, each player would be assigned a track that they would have to try their best to trace perfectly, while hopping, sliding, and brake-turning when prompted.
Tropys in Platinum Relic-colored Champion Karts*
Mommy, I'm scared.

I can do that and maintain blue flame for a whole lap at the same time B)
@@nickploosvanamstel5832 LMAO
I see lots of criticism people saying that MK sucks and here is why you should respect it:
