    It's amazing to realize that Nadal has won more French open titles than McEnroe has grand slams; 13 to 7. Then add the 7 other grand slam titles Nadal has. He matches McEnroe's 7 on the other surfaces alone. Just amazing.

      Forget McEnroe, Sampras was the GOAT of 90's, and Agassi was the runner up.

    Mr. John McEnroe I think your a little bias, not only has Nadal won 19 grand slam titles but he has played against the 2 rank Joker and 3 rank Federer in their prime, let's face it Nadal has had a tougher road, Federer started to pile up slam titles before Nadal and Joker came into their prime, and Joker started winning titles after both Nadal's and Federer's careers started to dwindle a bit. So sir you tell me who has had the tougher road to success.
    My top 10 list
    1. Nadal
    2. Joker
    3. Federer
    4. Laver
    5. Sampras

    Everything is relative, the GOAT question also. It depends on us, on our favourite style..Personally Federer is my favorite athlete, and obviously Rafa is also a great player, a Legend. And I respect all his fans who see him as the GOAT or even the WGA. Another reason why all this is relative is that time continues, and no one can predict what will happen tomorrow. They called Borg the GOAT, then Sampras, now Roger and Rafa...
    There is nothing absurde for me than advancing arguments (H2H, rankings, GS..) to convince others and impose on them our personal choice !

    I don't think Rafa is really bothered about if he is the GOAT or whether or not he will surpass Roger's 20 GS. So even his fans should not argue about it. Rafa himself has said that to him, the greatest player is Roger Federer. So, all arguments should end there. We Rafans know who Rafa truly is and we need not give any explanation to any one, either to the Roger fans or Novak fans. They all have their own emotions and reasons to believe that Roger or Novak is the GOAT. But I believe, number of Grand Slams or the number of titles won or the number of weeks one has been at No. 1 position are not everything and only things to define a great sportsman. There are too many other factors too. Like personally, I love Rafa's behavior towards his opponents, I am amazed by his humility even after having won 18 GS and his ability to fight back each time after a big set back. I love the way he fills the court and stadium with a lively energy that emanates from his passion for his sport. I love the way he conducts himself each and every time on court. Rafa is a true inspiration - A true gentleman with a true sportsmanship spirit.

      Of course he is given credit. You have to be quite fucking good to have such a dominant H2H against someone who is much more talented than you. Rafa is the greatest competitor in tennis history and perhaps sports history, the greatest defender, the hardest working tennis player i've ever seen and his winning mentality is something to be amazed at. Is he the Greatest Of All Times? No, simply because Roger Federer exists. Even Rafa himself has said it, "If someone says i'm better than Roger, that person knows nothing about tennis", and while Nadal is sometimes too humble, he wasn't wrong in that one.

    • @Diogene_Balbeur
      @Diogene_Balbeur 6 лет назад +13

      Talent is a term of laziness. You could not define it correctly. All of those top players are of course well talented. That's 99% work. How ridiculous to say Federer is "much more talented" than Nadal. You don't know that. What I see, what we can measure is that Nadal beats him, and his a more complete tennis player, winning both on clay and on hard surfaces. With more than (only !) one GS on clay, oh mama, where would he be in the GS count ?

      Oiseau Rare By more talented i mean that, Roger can play every shot in the book. Federer can play almost every shot Rafa can, but better. Have you seen Rafa serve as well as Roger does? Play dropshots, offensive slices, around-the-post shots, backwards-running smashes, lobs, fake shots? No you haven't, and every other tennis expert will tell you that Rafa is less talented than Federer, but he was able to compensate for that with an amazing mental fortitude, hard work and one of the best bodies tennis has ever seen. Rafa is given credit and he is praised. He is the second best player in tennis history after all. Oh, you might wanna work on your english a little bit.

    Fed’s 8 wins at Wimbledon are phenomenal no doubt. He won only 1 French. Whereas, Nadal has won 13 French and won at Wimbledon 2x. Rafa has won every other slam at least 2 x and his 100-2 record at the French defies belief. It HAS to be considered if not the single greatest record in ANY sport, at least tied with them. Other notables come to mind, like a 50-0 record for Floyd Mayweather - insanity! Michael Phelps domination at the Olympics - also insanity. But while 50-0 is ridiculous, what then is 100-2? It GOAT stuff. Period. Trust me, Fed and Novak tried hard to win the French - but Rafa’s TOTAL domination at the French will in all likelihood never even come close to being approached. Finally, that Rafa dispatched the world’s #1 so easily in straight sets, humiliating Novack in set 1/2, c’mon! Plus, consider when Rafa met Roger in the French final and spanked him in straight sets as well! PLUS, Rafa has beaten Roger on his best surface - and the final of a Wimbledon! Rafa is at the very least TIED for the GOAT. Roger has 20 more singles titles overall, BUT Rafa has many more ATP Master’s 1000 titles. Roger’s other titles are ATP 500 series (lessor in status BCUZ lessor players). Rogrer’s record of most semi-final appearances is ridiculous as was his # of weeks as #1 player. ...but to all the haters out there, c’mon! THIRTEEN French! 100-2 record at the French. My goodness

    Roger and Rafa play completely different game styles, yes Roger has more GS, yes Rafa has dominated a surface like no other, yes Roger is winning slams at 36 and yes their head to head is more in Rafa's favor but they also have a substantial age difference. I think if your a true fan of tennis you should appreciate each player for what they have achieved, Rogers immense consistency over his career is mind-boggling, his fluid artistic play style is without doubt the most silky smooth player to have played the game and his raw talent for pulling shots off that no one else can is quite something, but Rafa's competitive and machine-like determination as well as his incredible athletic play style should also be appreciated too. When it comes to the GOAT argument it has to come down to personal preference. For me Roger is the most gifted tennis player the world has seen. Rafa has had to grind his body and style of play to the absolute max to reach his peak and that's more physical talent than tennis talent. You just have to see Roger & Rafas practice sessions to see what I mean, Roger doesn't even appear to be practicing all that hard and Rafa is putting 400% in all the time, hence all his injuries. Roger took 6 months + off and came back and won the Australian open at a grand old age. Rafa's game style wouldn't allow him to do such as he needs lots of matches. It really depends on what you base your criteria for the greatest on.

    What makes Rafa the GOAT is that he was there beating Roger during his prime years (2006-2010) and has

    Maybe the better question to ask is, who would you rather be? If people were being honest, they would all say Federer. Aside from all the insane records and streaks that Federer has, Nadal has put his body through hell. He would have retired in his 20's if not for medical procedures that he gets where they inject his own plasma into his knees. Cutting edge medicine saved his career. He wouldn't have had that option in an earlier era. He has said he suffers out there on the court, that he's always in pain. His game is built for clay and hard courts are a struggle for him physically. Even Nadal fans have to be honest and admit they would rather be Federer. I admire Nadal greatly but he's #2 all-time. Which is amazing, higher than most people ever thought he would be. He proved me wrong, and so many others. I didn't think he'd be this great. I was wrong. But he's not greater than Federer. No one is.

    A title on clay counts more IMO than a title anywhere else. I consider clay more difficult. You can't win with just power and speed. You need a strategy, a great variety of shots and plays, a combination of patience and aggression, lots of stamina and mental toughness, and superb overall tennis skills. I would also consider the singles gold medal at the Olympics the equivalent of a Major in clout and importance. Also Davis Cup success carries a lot of prestige for a player. With all these things considered, Rafa is a lot closer to Federer than simple Major count indicates. I'm not saying he's objectively better... yet.

How boring would boxing be if every fight ended in the first second of the first round with just 1 single punch? Faster isn't always better. Also the only thing that is "slower" in a clay court is the ball after bouncing. Everything else is faster: You gotta run faster to get to the ball, you gotta hit harder to overcome the bounce, you gotta move faster side-to-side to defend in rallies, so no, only the bounce is "slower" and just by fractions of a second, not enough for your eye to notice, but enough for the player to get a better chance at a return.

      Grafight23----the pace of the ball isn't what i was talking about....it is the quickness of the player on the court that matters ...when it comes to clay vs grass/hardcourt.....and if the pace of the ball is a little slower, then the pace of the player...is....a little slower

    Off the top of my head, there are 2 major statistics in which Rafa has the advantage. H2H and Master 1000 titles, but think of something, Roger is the best grass court player of all times, but there has never been a title of that category played on grass. If that wasn't the case, Roger would have at least 3 more 1000 titles. And the H2H is pretty simple, Rafa has always been almost unplayable on clay. Take away that surface and they have played 23 matches, with Roger leading 13-10. Is it Rafa's fault that he is so good in terre batue? Well, yeah it is, and he should aim to that. Is it Rafa's fault that they have played so many times in clay? No it's not. Just like this whole "Roger played in a weak era before Rafa arrived" is not Federer's fault. He didn't choose to play Philippoussis, Roddick or Baghdatis. He had to beat them and he did. So these two statistics, while quite meritorious, are not enough to say Rafa is the GOAT. Roger has more GS titles, more GS finals, more weeks as World N°1 (both consecutive and overall), more titles, more ATP wins, and something quite impressive, Roger has five or more titles at 3 out of the 4 Grand Slams (6 AO's, 8 Wimbys and 5 USO's) meaning that Federer has been incredibly succesful at not one, not 2 but 3 out of the four greatest tournaments in the tour. He is not the player that we all know just cause of a "weak era". Another curious fact: Rafa hasn't made it past the 4th round at Wimbledon ever since his '11 final, losing to players of a much lesser category than himself (Rosol 2nd RD '12, Darcis 1st RD '13, Kyrgios 4th RD '14, Brown 2nd RD '15, DNP '16, Muller 4th RD '17). While Roger has had a better performance in RG since his last final, also in '11 but losing to players of a much better level in most cases (Djokovic SF '12, Tsonga QF '13, Gulbis 4th RD '14, Wawrinka QF '15, DNP '16, '17, '18)

    • @Rrtnns
      @Rrtnns 6 лет назад +4

      Exactly, clay is the TOUGHEST surface of all! A THIRD of the ATP tour is clay, hence whoever dominates clay is one/third GOAT. Federer is two/thirds GOAT, at best. Or because he is completely demolished by Rafa on clay, he isn't GOAT at all.

    • @yougood809

      @@Rrtnns Federer is not two/thirds GOAT. He not the best hard court player. That's Djokovic after what he did to Rafa at the Australian open 2019

  • @morgannimmo6519
    @morgannimmo6519 6 лет назад +30

    I honestly think that to decide who really is the GOAT, we should have a global vote. But I think all Rafa fans know what would happen. Federer is by far and away more popular than Nadal. He's got more titles overall, more Slams, more weeks at No.1, more world championships (Nadal has none), more fans favourite awards, more Sportsmanship awards, more grass titles, more hardcourt titles, more indoor titles, he's beaten Nadal 5 times in a row and the last 3 matches were straight forward for Federer, Nadal hasn't beaten Federer since January 2014, if you take away Rafa's French Open Titles it leaves him with just 6 Slams but if you take away Roger's 8 Wimbledons it leaves him with 12 which is double what Rafa would have which proves Federer has a more complete all-round game. You cant argue with statistics guys. Then you get on to longevity and there's nobody that's looked after their body more than Roger. Just one surgery in a 20 year career but Rafa has had loads and he's alot younger which proves Nadal doesn't play wisely and surely to be the GOAT you have to be able to look after your body. If you were to ask all the legends of the game who the best of all time is I can guarantee you there wouldn't be many that would pick Rafa. Nadal is for sure the greatest player on clay ever but just not the best overall because this guy Federer will always be in the way.

      Sai Teja Social Media numbers are misleading because Rafa has been on social media much longer. Example: Rafa got on Twitter in 2011 and has 15 mill followers. Roger got on Twitter in 2013, and has 12.5 million followers. ESPN did a list of most popular athletes worldwide recently, Roger is 5, Nadal is 8 or 9 I think.

    I caught myself thinking who's is in fact the greatest of all time ? Rafa or Roger.
    One thing is bugging my head:
    Because of the 4 Slams we have, 3 of them are on fast courts and just one of them on slow surface, and Rafa has 17, Roger has 20, what if It was 2 Grand Slams on fast courts and 2 on clay courts, it would be more fare even for comparison between the two players. Since is not like that, lets go with this: Rafa won 11 on clay and 6 on fast (Roger won 19 on fast and one on clay), so he is more diversified. And he is 32, Roger is 37. Still history to be made for him. What do you guys think?
