Sister-friend, I wish I had known you were ready to pull that garden... we'd have stayed an extra few days and got in there with you and got it done! ❤ Loved seeing the full moon watching over you as you worked... so pretty! Give my buddy Nellie a squeeze from me 🙂 ❤ We're wearing our new G&G Farms shirts today! ❤❤❤❤❤
@ggfarms9136 no worries... ours is a hot mess and being gone for a week didn't help any 😀 It's all good... we'll get it whipped back into shape in time for the fall crops to go in.
Last year I was in the same situation even with my tiny garden. I decided to cut back on things I grew and slowly added a few things at a time. Last year it would’ve been better if I had had a little help. But I’m still going to keep it smaller this year. It’s ok to change plans to make it more manageable. However, Catherine, on a farm like yours and being in the South it only takes a little while of neglect for whatever reason for Mother Nature to take over. It’ll be fine. Don’t worry about what we see. We tune in to see real life on a farm. This is what everyone’s gardens look like at the end of summer. 🥵🍁🥀☀️ But most importantly is taking care of your health. No explanations needed. From CA, 🏖️take care, really!
Don't feel bad about your garden, I completely lost control of mine this year. Every morning for the last 6 days, I have committed to working either 1-2 hours or until I get overheated. As of now, I am simply re organizing and cleaning up for next season. Have a blessed weekend.
Catherine, it is looking very good but don’t ever be ashamed or afraid to show us what you have got going on because that’s a lot of work!!! And don’t stay out there too long! Especially if you have been sick and because we know that you are taking care of the fawns!!! Please don’t over do it!!! May God continue to bless you and your family always!!! 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
I think it is so awesome that you have a helper . You are such an amazing hard worker, Catherine. You guys are lucky to be able to have a fall garden cause here in Iowa, we only get the summer garden. Catherine, you are fine, we forgive you you reacted normally to your situation with your health, weather ect... I am so glad that you hopefully have your heart situation fixed. Thank you so much for showing us that it is OK to be human and have a few down falls but that you take care of the situation and pick yourself up dust yourself off and get back at it. God bless you Catherine. LOVE FROM IOWA! 😊❤❤❤
Catherine, it was so wonderful to meet you at the Clanton Inn on Sunday. I was the woman in the wheel chair whose lap you sat in, in the group photo. My daughter was the one that took all the photos that morning before we left. Now please do not over due it and listen to your body, taking breaks and asking for help when needed it then do it!!! Do not over work your body or you will end up like I am from working 4 jobs to support my family. Love the potager garden near the home. That is one of the things I dislike about my place, I have no yard but you live in what you can afford. I do hope to make it to Alabama again next year just not at the event since it is not handicapped accessible like I found out last year. I was wondering though I checked out the store and you have no stickers, will you be selling them at all? I would love to add you to my sticker album. Take care on this beautiful Sunday and much peace.
Please Please Please!!!!!!!!! Be kind to yourself Katherine!! You can only do what you can do! We love you no matter what and I believe no one is ashamed of you what so ever!❤ I can't imagine working in that heat you all.have down there! I'd pass out for sure!😂 Much love from Washington🙋
The heat takes it out on the best of us. I can remember my folks and grandparents say if the garden grew as good as the weeds we’d be doing great. We canned a lot green beans, tomatoes, pickles Yumm and had a lot of sides, peas, cabbage, I remember helping as a young kid weeding. But looking back I loved the smell of the earth and loved eating what we grew up and canned. And had to store in grandparents basement as we had no room. And we all shared. You’re doing great. 😊 we didn’t have deer issue but lots of bunnies. Go slow and cool off. 🌻🙋♀️🐐🫏🐕🐓
The heat has been awful here in NC this year, too. Plus, the mosquitoes are terrible from all the rain. It’s been a no win situation this summer. We can’t have anything, the squirrels get into everything, can’t plant bulbs, they find them and eat them and the moles tearing up the yard. My husband spreads Triazad on the lawn to kill the grubs, but the moles are still insistent. He did order some of the scissor like mole catchers and have gotten 6, so they work really good. I love your channel and you are an inspiration. Gardening can get away from you before you know it. I’m going to have to look for some of that hibiscus that you have when we go to the garden centers. We can grow Rose of Sharon really good here, so maybe, that will grow, also. Take care and take it easy.
We don’t live in Eden so it will always be a battle. Take care of you. There is always more to do. I love fig trees too. Reminds me of my grandparents farm.
I certainly feel you and totally understand. Rowing in the same boat. Heat has been unrelenting, slowly attracting the weeds and cleanup. Take care and pace yourself. ❤😊
Oh, Catherine! Watching you is like watching myself. Louisiana is still hot & humid. I'm in the same position as you are right now! I love my yard & pulling weeds, but, the heat has been a killer. Today is Saturday & I plan on doing this same job as soon as the sun comes up 🤪🙄😁❤️
Ms. Catherine, no explanation needed on the state of the garden. Anyone whose had one, Anyone whose lived in an area with 90+ Temps and the humidity to go with it knows. No judgment ever. Take care of your health first so you can keep doing this for many years to come. ❤❤❤
When I had my big flower garden I would pull the weeds and dead plants and put them on a tarp and then I could just pull the tarp full of stuff to where I wanted to dump it. It was way easier than using a wheel barrow and picking things up twice.
Goodness Gracious please don't worry about the gardens doing garden things . Lol If I could do a quarter of what you do I'd be a happy gal . I'm glad you have a lil helper from time to time . Your health is the number one priority an we all know that an none of us are gonna leave cause the Garden had a few weeds . God Bless your Mess 💯🙏❤🇺🇸
You are one of the hardest working women I know. Don’t be ashamed. I let my weeds go in my garden also because of the heat . There is no way anyone can work in a garden in the humidity. Our summer here is nothing like yours so I completely understand. It’s a job just trying to get your basic chores done before it gets too hot . Keep on Catherine, your doing a amazing job with your gardening
You made the right choice to let it go. Your health is most important.. I live in Kentucky and it has been a really hot summer and so far not enough rain. Crunchy grass .
Catherine, you never have to be ashamed of anything you can't do in the dead of summer!!!! Or any time for that matter! Anyone who lives in the south knows how brutal it can be!! Brutal meaning down right dangerous!! I have a heart condition, and the one thing I've noticed is that I just can't take the heat like I use too!!! It definitely makes it hard to take care of the yard like I would like!! Take care! I hope they did fix you up!!!
I'm kinda jealous of all your tea making plants, mullein, lemon balm& hibiscus. You plant some yarrow and mallow you will never have to worry about chest ailments.
Catherine, all of us can’t handle the heat as we get older. My husband and I are 74 and 73. We did just what you did…work til lunch then call it an inside say. The heat makes me feel weak. Pat yourself on the back for getting out there….so good for you. Just keep the size manageable.
I think those summer gardens get away from all of us,LOL The clean up is so satisfying though. Take care, don't know how you work in that heat at all. God Bless Donna
Your determination is inspiring! I was reading about deer deterrents and this guy is whittling reed whistles to hang in his garden to scare away the deer. I figure if I did that, the deer would eat the whistles - lol. Stay safe.
It’s good to have help thank you to the little helper you’re appreciated. Catherine I’m glad you take brakes take care. The gardens are coming together. God bless
I'm so glad you got help. I think you work way to hard in that heat. It hot like where I live, except you can't grow anything here but cactus here and they are struggling this year also we are watering them twice a week. I love to watch you and I watch Brook, you two are the best.
It is alright to let it go, let it go...... You should not be ashamed!! You are just showing the reality of running a farm and running a rescue. Showing your struggles may help other people not feel bad when they can not keep up with life. Also rest, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. Not to sound bad but you look over worked at the end of this video. Please be kind to yourself. ❤
Hi Catherine, I homeschooled my son when he was a teen and after he got through with his schoolwork he would go to other jobs too. You are smart not to work in the heat. God bless you and until next time take care now
You definitely have a lot on your plate. There’s no reason to be embarrassed. You had a really hot summer. Your health is more important than. I’m glad that had someone to help you.
Bless You Dear Catherine. I didn't know you been sick? Prayers all is well now. Yes this summer been one to remember I am in FL and the heat when I get up is madding. Had to get a bigger fan for my birds it was hot as all get out on the porch. You step out and could just feel the steam early am.. Glad you being smart and taking breaks.. Farm On
0looks like those deer had themselves a banquet off the back of your hard work. i have a medium sized back yard and it gets away from me too often, i can't work in the heat, you are allowed to take time out, your such a hard worker
Those weeds take over so fast. It seems when there is a drought the only thing that grows is the weeds and they take over. Yes with the heat its so hard to work outside. It never gets that hot here but close to it. Fortunately, I do not have a deer problem. I have Morning Glories as well taking over my Yard. I noticed it growing in your garden.
Catherine, I'm over from Brooks suggestion. 💜Nice to see you We have the same hair ! I will follow and read some of your history a few times a week. Thanks for being such a good neighbor to the Smiths.
do what u can ,, when u can ,, and love u i loved meeting u at the meet and greet ,, and god bless u ,,m and the babies and be safe in the heat its easy to get sick and we want u well and farm on
When my grandmother would get frustrated about something, she would say, “I’ll just got to grass and eat mullin”. I’m not sure what it’s means, but I still remember it to this day.
No need to feel embarrassed. It was so hot this summer. I imagine taking care of the animals took priority when it was so hot. I avoided going outside this summer too and I'm a summer person. Love the hot weather, but this summer was too much for even me. So glad we did our summer family camping trip in early June cause i think the very next week after that is when the heat got crazy and never let up till late august...and the temps are back up in the 90's with super high humidity again now
Good morning Catherine, you’re such an amazing individual. You’re up against eating an elephant, so do it one bite at a time and spit out the toenails. Remember your planting seeds of Love and Harvesting Joy, that energizes Smiles. Heat is a zapper of energy, guess that’s where early to bed and early to rise, taking advantage of cool mornings and take time for a siesta break in the heat of the afternoon. I’m glad you’re taking on help along with sharing the vision and results with a younger individual so they can see the results of hard work motivated by the “Get It Done” mindset. Do what you can and embrace the wisdom to leave some for tomorrow, sometimes gardens weren’t build in a day. 😀👍👩🌾👍👩🌾👍👩🌾
@@ggfarms9136 Cat, Mr Richard Hits the Nail on the Head Sister!! So True ALL he said You are Loved and sorry to see all that hard work But looks like You had some Nice Rewards to enjoy
Thank you Ms. Catherine. For the past three years I have been fighting weeds in my back yard. I decided this fall to tarp my back yard. I'm tired of fighting weeds , that even grow in the winter months ! When the spring comes, I'll decide what to do . Blessings, Grace and Peace to you and your family.
Dear, sweet, lovely Catherine. You have absolutely zero reason to apologize about anything - especially things you did not do and/or cannot control. You cannot control weather or the impact it has on our bodies and/or crops. You are a strong, gorgeous, resilient, talented woman but you are also human. If someone else's gardens were in a similar condition I doubt you would want them to be embarrassed. That also includes you. Being human is our reality. [My body isn't tolerant of much heat. I am ok for a few minutes then suddenly I feel light-headed, nauseous and dizzy - all at once. (My vision is also blurry so I am afraid to move. I do not want to fall.) In less than a minute a collapse. I was told it's Quick Onset Heat Exhaustion. Never heard of such. No cure. Treatment = drink plenty of water, take breaks, avoid direct sun and wear proper protective clothing/gear. My weather is similar to Alabama, maybe a few degrees cooler here in metro Atlanta GA.] Brooke and Jason talk about the extreme heat they have been experiencing.
I think my husband is the only one I know that actually grows gardens and trees for the deer. Pea patch, muscadines, scupadines and pear trees. But if they were to get into the 'maters they are in trouble.
Catherine stay hydrated and do what is best for your health. Choose your battles wisely. I don’t know if you know Kevin and Sarah at Living Traditions Homestead, they put up 6 ft double fence around their orchard and the deer don’t bother it. Something to do with deers poor depth perception. Oh yeah Brooke and Jason have been singing your farm and you for a while now. Thought I would come check you out and give you my support by watching your videos.
@@ggfarms9136 the chinch bugs showed up one night and the SOUND of them devouring my potatoes, onions, tomatoes was something else. I gathered some up, took them to the garden store..the guy said "you live on pageant?" 3 of my neighbors beat me to it ..that summer sucked..the bugs. And then 3 rattlesnakes my TWO YEAR OLD found, ended our garden
Goodness me Catherine, you take it easy and look after yourself. The rest of your body doesn't work without your heart. ❤You should turn the goats out into the garden. Let them do some of the clearing for you. Glad you got a young helper. Makes the work easier with a buddy. 🥰 How is the Archery range going? Hope it is getting a lot of business.
Maybe you should think about a permanent hog panel fence around your garden in the future, maybe with a hot wire along the top? Maybe think about planting something that deer will eat away from your gardens? An area just for the deer so they don't come near your main garden. Glad you are reaching out for help and the young man is earning some "coins"! Loosen those big weeds with a fork so you don't pull out your back! Work smarter not harder! Take it slow and mind your body! Deer can't negotiate 2 fences a few feet apart. If you put T-posts outside your regular fence with fishing line strung on them, back and forth, the deer will touch it, get started, and move away! Just a thought! 😊❤(Check out LIQUID FENCE, DEER AND RABBIT REPELLANT. It works on scent not chemicals! People use it around ornamental gardens that don't have fences around them! Deer don't like the smell!)
My garden is also a mess. It's been too hot and dry in San Antonio to work outside! Your clean up made such a difference, looks good. Gives me hope for mine!😊❤
You can't do it all in one day just look at your new sun blistered face. I'm looking forward in seeing what all you do to prepare for the fawns. I want to HELP! Perhaps set up a gofundme or I'd be more than happy to donate. You're the ONLY deer rehabber in AL . We all have to pull together to help you... just tell me how? Blessings from N. AL🙏🏻
Ours looks every bit as bad for the same reasons and we are waiting for cooler temps because the heat and humidity here has us seeing stars in about 20 minutes.
I think alot of us lost control of our gardens and yards because of the heat. It’s not worth getting a heat stroke over. Take it easy and don’t overwork yourself.
I don't know how people can work in the humidity and heat where you live. I considered moving to TN this year; but then decided against it. I've lived in the Pacific NW all my life with conditions so different from yours...maybe I'm a little too 'long in the tooth' to make such a change now. 😊 You surely ARE a terrific worker, Catherine...(most nurses are :) God bless and guide you, keep you safe, healthy, and HAPPY!!!

It never gets that hot here but close to it. Fortunately, I do not have a deer problem. I have Morning Glories as well taking over my Yard. I noticed it growing in your garden.
@@organicgal7751 yes. The morning glories had began to take over the zinnias. I let them stay because of the color it added
Catherine, I'm over from Brooks suggestion. 💜Nice to see you We have the same hair ! I will follow and read some of your history a few times a week. Thanks for being such a good neighbor to the Smiths.
@@msmyramorgan751 Hey there! Welcome to the farm! Hope you enjoy the channel❤️. I would love your hair😜
do what u can ,, when u can ,, and love u i loved meeting u at the meet and greet ,, and god bless u ,,m and the babies and be safe in the heat its easy to get sick and we want u well and farm on
Good job to you and your helper!
I follow a rescue out of Oklahoma who get a lot of fawns and you are correct it is a lot of work!
When my grandmother would get frustrated about something, she would say, “I’ll just got to grass and eat mullin”. I’m not sure what it’s means, but I still remember it to this day.
Awesome video ❤
No need to feel embarrassed. It was so hot this summer. I imagine taking care of the animals took priority when it was so hot. I avoided going outside this summer too and I'm a summer person. Love the hot weather, but this summer was too much for even me. So glad we did our summer family camping trip in early June cause i think the very next week after that is when the heat got crazy and never let up till late august...and the temps are back up in the 90's with super high humidity again now
Love your garden and the fruit trees. Love fig my favorite ❤
Can you believe the I've never ate a fig! I better hurry & try one cause I just turned into my mid 70s. Yikes
@@richardmain8059 Boy those are words of wisdom!!!! Love it!❤️

@@sallysullivan4463 this will be my first time tarping. Taking the advice of my friend Jason at Cog Hill
You are amazing!!! Thanks for staying off the ladder lol!
I wish I lived closer, I would love to come help!
Watching from WA state! Love seeing your garden!
One day, one tarp at a time,,,,,,and, voila, it will be done! 👍👏❤

Gardens and deer are always a problem..they are desperate for food and unless you have true deer fences, they WILL visit your "buffet"..
@@julindahiggins1582 and trust me. It was a buffet!😂
Please take care of yourself, you look very tired and overwhelmed 😞 .Thinking of you.
Take it easy with this crazy weather. You are doing an amazing job.
My garden is also a mess. It's been too hot and dry in San Antonio to work outside! Your clean up made such a difference, looks good. Gives me hope for mine!😊❤
Glad u have some help! Looking good! If I lived closer, I would love help on the farm 🫶🏼
You can't do it all in one day just look at your new sun blistered face. I'm looking forward in seeing what all you do to prepare for the fawns. I want to HELP! Perhaps set up a gofundme or I'd be more than happy to donate. You're the ONLY deer rehabber in AL . We all have to pull together to help you... just tell me
how? Blessings from N. AL🙏🏻
Ours looks every bit as bad for the same reasons and we are waiting for cooler temps because the heat and humidity here has us seeing stars in about 20 minutes.
😍😍😍
Double fence barrier is the only thing to stop deer.
Take care of yourself Catherine don't get overheated.
I think alot of us lost control of our gardens and yards because of the heat. It’s not worth getting a heat stroke over. Take it easy and don’t overwork yourself.
We let ours go also due the hot weather
I don't know how people can work in the humidity and heat where you live. I considered moving to TN this year; but then decided against it. I've lived in the Pacific NW all my life with conditions so different from yours...maybe I'm a little too 'long in the tooth' to make such a change now. 😊 You surely ARE a terrific worker, Catherine...(most nurses are :) God bless and guide you, keep you safe, healthy, and HAPPY!!!
@@carolb3946 it’s really tough and I’ve found that the older I get the harder it is to be in the heat. Thank you so much for your wonderful compliment ❤️
