Cadence definitely has a better UI, but I'll take the Jepster app (Android) over it any day of the week. Not only is Jepster free, it supports importing routes from Strava, it supports ANT+ (on older Samsung phones that have it built in, and it lets me fit more data in the same amount of space.
Yeah, that's what I've been using for almost 2 years, I think ? I tried Cadence a few days ago (time trial), and cancelled after my first ride. I was mainly interested in it because of the navigation directions that you don't have with Jepster, and to manage/see the segments on which I want to improve my PR. But I find the customization harder (it's hard to load a ride file), to get something similar to what I have on Jepster. And I like the ability to follow a workout on Jepster. A missing feature with Jepster (or should I say "a glitch" ?) is that you won't get the notifications when your screen is off, if you have a radar.
@@DaveNoakesI was going to buy a wahoo roam, but I’ve just downloaded it and I’m already thinking “Yea stuff that, this does all that the roam does and I think I’ll save myself £330 quid!!” By the way Dave, they have an offer on and it’s only £17.99 & £34.99? At that price it’s gotta be worth a punt!👍🏻
👍I’ve just downloaded the app and got the quad lock to keep the phone secure, I was hoping to connect my e-bike to it for the battery and power level which doesn’t seem to connect yet but hopefully that will be updated some time soon 😊
Im guessing you can use as a sat nav device for the car as well? Would be good if it would use O/S maps. I don't have devices to pair, but have been using a rugid/ waterproof phone mounted on quadlock for walking, cycling and car for years with Memory Maps, no data useage and simple phone pay as you go. Downside this APP may not work on my older phone!
I guess you could use it as a sat nav. You can have only the map displayed. Quad lock is the perfect mount to pair with this. You have the choice of maps…including the OS ones.
I hope it does last you. I’d say 10 years is great for any tech…normally due to updates older tech ends up running on old firmware or being a bit buggy as it’s running on an update meant for newer devices. I guess Garmin, Wahoo have updates specific to their devices though…I’m just going by my experience of phones. Thanks for the positive comment 🙏🏽
What about water damage to the phone? I would also be worried about the phone falling off it mount. Also you might discuss the most robust way to mount a phone to the bike. BTW I have cadence sensors and they are usually held onto the arm of the crank with those crappy rubber bands and I have lost more than one of them because thew rubber bands don't really hold them securely.
I’ve never had a phone drop off or get damaged using a quad lock mount…I use mine daily. If you’re really concerned about you could use the motorcycle mount that have a vibration dampener in it.
Hi, developer of Cadence here: no, but having a working map without internet requires the Elite subscription. Elite allows you to download offline maps from Mapbox. Otherwise, with free or Pro, you can use it without internet but will be limited with features that require internet, which would be updating map tiles, getting weather information, etc.
@@ryansommers35 Awesome, Cause I have an android phone with an inactive cell service but the wifi works, And it has better battery life than my iPhone, so I guess that would be my set-up, Just gonna get a phone mount, then voila, hoping I wont forget the phone on the bike tho. 🤣
There’s a lot more to this app than Strava, Strava is more for tracking rides…doesn’t give live data…whereas this will give you all the info a cycle computer will.
I just tried this and it’s pretty good but the GPS navigation is horrible. I missed my turn and it kept on trying to tell me to do a U-turn to start from the beginning to get back on track eventually closed and my phone GPS.
Sorry you had trouble here. I can't post a direct link but there's several support docs on the Cadence support page about using navigation and understanding how it works for a better experience.
Hi, developer of Cadence here: no Fitbit or Google Wear compatibility, only Apple Watch. However if your device broadcasts heart rate over Bluetooth, that'll work fine. I know lots of Garmin watches and the latest Fitbit's (like the Charge 6) will broadcast HR.
So I have an issue where the app says to open the app on my Apple Watch to view HR but as soon as the watch screen turns off then HR doesn’t show.. what is up with that
You have to start recording your activity for the Apple Watch to enter workout mode. Once you start recording the Apple Watch screen will stay on and will provide consistent heart rate values.
That’s the thing though…you are then limited to a Samsung…so if you ever change phone you’re screwed. Whereas if you use cadence app it works on iOS and android.
The whole point of using a bike is to save using the car and if something is going to drain your phone battery then i wouldn't bother using it just to check my speed if i wanted to do that i would just use my car 🤣
This was a quick test, I’m actually filming a more indepth look this week. Short answer…speed accuracy is spot on, I used a cycle computer at the same time to compare and it’s identical. Only really downside I can see is the battery life
They need to offer a bar mounted small screen that’ll mirror what’s on the phone.
I love this idea!
Or u can just make it
Thank you for the info. I ordered the quad Lock - great idea. Looking forward to using the app.
Love my quad lock mounts b
Thanks, I subscribed to this app, awesome.

Good Vid Dave. I thought someone at some point would come up with this idea. Off to the App Store to download it.😎👍🏻

This is where Quad Lock come in with their poncho and mounts 👌🏼
Put the sensor in your sock. Works like magic and you won’t lose it!
Why don't you at the start say your sponsored by them ?
I say that I was approached to make a video. That’s not a sponsorship…that said…cadence have decided to sponsor the channel moving forwards.

Appreciate that mate. It’s genuinely dead good.
If only someone made phone cases with built-in Garmin/Wahoo mounts. The phone would be a lot safer on the bars.

I have a stupid question. Can I use it for directions to a location like Google maps?
You sure can

Does it support cycling radar?
The rear light? I believe so.
Yes, Cadence supports both Garmin Varia and Bryton Gardia Bluetooth radars
Dave can you pair a fit bit watch it. ?
Remember Dave Rides Everything but he doesn't use everything 😊

Does the app run in the background if someone calls you on the phone?
Yes it does

Working on adding landscape support right now, and after that the next major feature will be training plans and interval support!
