- Grammy Award-winning Jody Miller alternated for fifteen years between folk/protest, pop, and Nashville country. She did all equally well, with talent, grace and an intense beauty that survives today. This is the best of her folk phase, John D. Loudermilk's LONG BLACK LIMOUSINE on Capitol in 1968
I had the great honor of meeting Jody on two seperate occasions down in Branson. Unfortunately, the "Grand Ladies Show" is no longer there so she's moved on, but what an experience it was! Her voice is just as strong as it ever was and what an entertainer she is! Love this song and Jody can sing anything. Thanks for posting it!
One of her best!

Of all the fine renditions of this mournful, melodic and lyrical ballad, Ms. Miller's was always my favorite since I first heard her voice gracing this tune in the late 1960s.
Great song by a great artist , Who unfortunately thought she should have been bigger, She could not have been bigger in my mind, This song shows a great voice and talent
No one has or had that wonderful, rich vibrato that Jody has. Her singing style remains a beautiful thing to behold.
I just discovered Jody Miller....what a treasure!!!!!
The power and emotion of her voice is so moving..such an incredible talent !
I agree 100%. Beautiful arrangement, production and exquisite performance. I hope she sees these comments. In our last conversation, she was not pleased with the fruits of her career. She should be.
mugwump790 yes she should be.
This is very nice!
Superb post! Awesome song and singer.
10+*s
Wow! What a voice!
I have been in contact with Jody and she seems to be doing just fine. :)
Wonderful !
I just heard she is still plugging away down in Branson Mo. She is good at Gospel these days.

This song's been around, lots of people have done it. But I think Jody defined it. Her pain is so obvious. I think this was her growing up record - when she made the transition from teen angst to adult angst.
Jody's version of American Trilogy is now on you tube...pure perfection. What an amazing voice !
Very sorry to hear that. Can anyone confirm?
You are thinking of Long Black Veil by Danny Dill and the great Marijohn Wilkin. Actually, LBL was written by Bobby George and Vern Stovall. I was originally going to post It's My Time by Jody, which was written by Mr. Loudermilk, but switched to this because the single wasn't in good enough shape. Still looking for a good copy of that...thanks for pointing out the error.
Vern Stovall's original 1961 recording can be found on youtube

Reminds me of Elvis..
Don't think Loudermilk wrote this tune ...
