Nice lesson. Simple sticking patterns applied with creative syncopation (accents & grace notes) sound really effective. The tom arrangement was cool too… medium- to high- then low. My ear didn’t pick up on it until after my eyes! It sounded completely natural
We recommend looking into "middle" or "Back-Finger Fulcrum" techniques, as this is what Anika uses here - the index finger isn't really used, the middle finger and thumb set up the grip, and the last two support. This is a favorite of many jazz and fusion drummers including Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Larnell Lewis, Todd Sucherman and more - it is less taxing on the muscles in your hands and forearm because it is a naturally looser grip! Hope this helps!
Anika I am definitely in love with your drumming, I always have been, a question for you, when you start around 5:38 it seems that that fill is ending a half note late three different times? BTW ,
Anika is the best! Awesome lesson 💛🖤💛

What an amazing lesson! I wouldn't have known the secret of these patterns without this lesson.

Thank you for these ideas
so excellent! I was going to comment on your left index figure not being tightly curled about your stick--but never mind.
