To clarify the penalty talk, some are spot fouls and some are from where play started. For example a false start (moving before the ball is hiked) is 10 yards against the offense from where the play started. Pass interference (kinda complicated to explain without tape but interfearing with a reciver) is a new set of downs from where it was called. So it could be a 2yard or 60 yard penalty. Then you have holding (grabbing a players jersey to slow them down) is a 5 or 10 yard penalty from where it happened.
I’m glad they included the butt fumble made by Mark Sanchez. One of the funniest events in Patriots history and because it was against the Jets, just perfect.
field goals are worth 3 points in the open field on a drive at any point usually on 4th down. The record is 64 yards. Extra points after touchdowns used to be on the 5 yard line but they changed a few years ago to make it more tricky. So its kicked from the 25 i believe. Either way i love the videos! Keep up the great work and have a safe thanksgiving gents!
Hey Cameron. Extra points used to be ball spotted at the 2 yd line held at the 10 making it a 20 yd kick. Now the ball is snapped from the 15 and held at the 23 making it a 33 yd kick.
On extra points, the ball is typically spotted in the middle of the field, although I believe they can move as far as the hash marks to either side if the kicking team desires. On field goals, they kick from where the ball was downed, though no further left/right than the hash mark on the side it was downed.
When you say it’s effortless looking that’s what makes great coaches. Who will design pass routes that block or pick off defensive players by crossing routes and sometimes you’ll see a defensive player doing something like playing aggressively to jump a pass. You can call the right play and end up with a wide open receiver and make it literally a pitch and catch and it can look so easy. But that’s the hours of film watching knowing what play can do what. A great coach has 6-7 plays like that each game and they know when to use those plays.
Yup. The pilgrims were in a bad way and the natives got them through the first winter. The next year at harvest they hosted large celebration meals (which looked little like the menu we know today as turkey wasn't there and lobster might have been one of the featured dishes) together with the natives in thanks for what they did, leading to about 50 odd years of peace before the grandchildren thought they were loosing their culture. So they started massacring settlers out of the blue, specifically targeting women and children. But getting off track, most Americans don't do a Christmas turkey. Turkey is exclusively for Thanksgiving. Most Americans will do a roast of some kind, most households have a Christmas ham (that's what my mom always does). And lastly, NFL on Thanksgiving has been done from the start of the league. The Lions feature most years having played 80 games out of 100 years, followed by the Cowboys with 50 odd. Chicago and Green Bay both played 36 times, and the only other team with at least 15 is Arizona oddly enough. Oh final though. When teams play on odd days like Thursday, they will try and schedule teams that would otherwise not had a full weeks rest that week before as one of their bye weeks. You might only have to play on a short week like that every year or two.
Rule: To complete the act of a touchdown the receiver must catch the ball, and get two feet inbounds to complete the catch. That includes both the sides and the back of the endzone. The rule applies to any catch. You have to catch it, have control of the ball, and have two feet touch inbounds for it to count.
You have to remember that it is a different ball being kicked off the ground, but its also important to remember the endzone is an additional 10 yards and the kick happens another 8-10 yards off the ball, and it has to be high enough to go over the 10 foot goal post. So a 60 yrd field goal is in the air for more like 80 yards!!
another fun fact..... the guy who had the record for longest field goal up until 2013 when it was finally beaten..... held the record for 43 years..... and he was born without toes on his kicking foot..... the front of his shoe wasn't as pointy as most, so he could toe-punt straight-on (not soccer style to side of big toe) without shanking the ball as often.
They always seem to kick field goals from the middle of the field because a play, including a field goal attempt, starts where the last play ended. Except, as you can see on the field there is a parallel set of marks running the length of the field. They’re called the hash marks. If a play ends outside of the marks (between the marks and a side line)the ball is brought to the nearest hash mark. If a play ends between the hash marks, it stays at that place for the start of the next play. Pushing things toward the middle of the field helps the offense. If that weren’t the case, the defense would have an advantage. The side line is thought of as a defender since it limits how far you can go to that direction.
One thing I would add is that there are kickers (mostly soccer style kicker) who sometimes benefit when kicking from a spot that is slightly off center, so in some cases, teams won't always try to perfectly center the ball's placement between the hash marks.
4:50 lololol i love how u say that not knowing thats the best receiver of all time in my opinion. He retired young cause he didnt want any brain damage but he was unstoppable. The greatest of all time
Happy thanksgiving to you guys. I know you don't celebrate it overseas. But hope you have a great day. I love watching the thanksgiving games with the guys in my family
Record length for field goal is 66 yards. Or 198 feet. It’s not always a straight on kick. Depends where the previous play ended. If it was left side of the field you kick from the left hash mark. Sometimes to line it up for a straight ahead kick they will do a running play and have the running back try to keep it in the middle so it’s an easier kick.
God, Thanksgiving 2015 was full of Panthers highlights. They were so god damn good that year, finished the regular season 15-1 and lost in the super bowl. Also, fun fact about Panther Blue, it's supposed to be a mixture of Duke Blue and Carolina Blue, two of the most popular college sports teams in the state of North Carolina
When John Madden was in the booth, they did come up with awarding turkey legs for outstanding play. Eventually, Madden came up with a 6 legged turkey. : )
The Kicker who hit that field goal you were talking about @11:45 Matt Prater, Detroit Lions holds the NFL Field Goal Record of 64 Yards. He did this with his former team the Denver Broncos.
Field goals are usually attempted when it is 4th down and a long ways to go for a 1st down and the line of scrimmage is within about 40 yards of the goal posts. It counts for 3 points. If you are too far to kick a field goal on 4th down and you don't want to try for and miss getting a first down you usually just punt (kick) the ball it to the other team.
Modern Thanksgiving in the US started in 1863 when President Lincoln set aside the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving. It was a day to remember the fallen in the continuing Civil War and to pray for success of the Union. Over 700,000 Americans died in the Civil War.
fairly sure the records 64 yards (64 meters for you) the difference in yards on kicks, say your kicking from the 20 yards line, thats about 35 yard field goal because you add the distance between the uprights and the touchdown goal line plus the 5 yards between where the balls snapped to where the holder catches it, adding 15 yards to it. so basically to dumb it down just always add 15 yards to where ever it being kicked, hope that sums it up lol
The Detroit Lions started the Thanksgiving football tradition in 1934. Dallas started their tradition of playing in 1966. They added a third game in 2006.
Hey guys I'm a Dallas cowboys fan from California, you guys are absolutely right about the lions and cowboys always playing on thanksgiving, it's been that way since 60s or 70s I can't remember which decade it was. Tune in because these thanksgiving games have major playoff implications.
Placement of the ball for a kick depends on where the previous play ended but within the "hash marks". If it is outside the hash mark on the right then the kick occurs within the hash marks but as far right as possible.
Love that you guys are reacting to this. NFL football on Thanksgiving is an American institution. You were correct in that the Lions and Cowboys always play. They always play at home and the Lions play first, then the Cowboys. There is also a third game that is the night cap game. This year, it was gonna be the Ravens at Steelers, one of the best rivalries in the NFL but the Ravens had a COVID outbreak so the game was postponed to this Sunday afternoon.
The reason the field goal record is only 64 yards is because the opposition will be able to block it if the ball is at a lower angle. Therefore the kickers kick at a suboptimal angle in order to get the ball clear of the defense.
You can kick a field goal at anytime but once its kicked you lose possesion so its usually done to win a game, end of half, or when it's fourth down and they feel they can make it.... if they miss the other team takes over from the same spot if the kick goes out of play or the other team can return it if it stays in play. They also do kicks for one additional point after a touchdown
The Dolphins recovered in endzone, but due to muffed kick rules, the ball was awarded to them on one-yard line. Had Leon Lett (Cowboy) simply done nothing, the Cowboys would have automatically received possession as the play would have been whistled dead and the team would have received possession at the line of scrimmage. Since Lett went for the ball and touched it, by rule the play was considered a muffed kick and the Dolphins were given possession on the one-yard line with three seconds showing on the clock. Stoyanovich attempted a field goal from that spot and connected, winning the game.
You can go for a field goal anytime you want if you are on offense. But strategically you wanna be as close to the goal post as possible and you want to make sure the 3 points you get for a field goal is beneficial to you winning the game.
There is 3 Thanksgiving games -Game 1 Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions 12:30pm(EST) on CBS -Game 2 Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys 4:30pm(EST) on FOX -Game 3 Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers Had been postponed to Sunday due to covid reasons within the Baltimore Ravens organization.
The playbooks in the NFL are generally huge and very very difficult to remember these guys who play in the NFL currently are typically top notch graduates from their respective college. There are multiples plays inside of the same formations (formation meaning the way the line up in the ball) but there are multiple plays inside a formation to make sure the QB can call and audible at the line of scrimmage if he would like to or if he needs to. Such as say the defense lines up in an obvious blitz package the QB will most likely call and audible and change to either a Draw running play (delayed handoff) or a quick pass play such as a play with 2 receivers running slant routes( and quick diagonal cut typically 5 yards or shorter towards the middle of the field)
I don't know their names, but I would die for the man in the middle. Most of the time he gets the rules right and he knows nothing about football. Also, I'm glad you guys enjoyed the butt fumble for the jets
It was actually a celebration of a successful harvest and the natives where invited as they had assisted the pilgrims in plantings and traded meat for corn and squash.
The main reason for the shorter Field Goal record, is that the defense is trying to block it, so the kick has to be kicked at a higher angle over the D-Line. If there was no D-Line, the ball could be kicked at a much shallower angle, and Field Goals could probably be made from 70 yards out
So a few different things. The majority of NFL games start at 1:00 Eastern time on Sundays. A smaller amount of games start at 4:25 or so Eastern time. These games are broadcasted locally. So like, if you live in Chicago and the Chicago Bears are playing, it'll be broadcasted on your free broadcast TV network(CBS or FOX). And it'll likely be broadcasted in the cities around Chicago that have a lot of Bears fans. And say that they're playing the Detroit Lions, for example, It'll also be broadcasted in Detroit and most of the cities near Detroit. But each individual TV "market" decides which games they'll broadcast. Sunday Night football is just one game. Its broadcasted nationwide. Monday Night football is just one game. Its broadcasted nationwide(but MNF is on ESPN, which is cable TV, so people do have to pay for cable services to watch it). The Lions and Cowboys thanksgiving games are broadcasted nationwide. In fact, the Thanksgiving Day games are amongst the most watched regular season NFL games of the year.
when they kick for 3 points it is totally different from when you kick for one point,You kick for 3 pointes when you need to for a game winner or you're at 4th down and instead of going for the 1st down you can kick for 3 pointes:)
I can see it now. The office blokes American football league. Northern division. The beginning of a new era of sports in the UK. 😆 Love your stuff guys!
A field goal is worth 3 pts. Touchdowns are worth 6, & the extra points after the touchdown are either 1 point for a kick (always 33 yards out from the goal posts), or teams can try for a 2 point conversion, which would be another pass play or a run from the 2 yard line. The strategy of American football is really just to move the ball 10 yds down the field, in 4 attempts, or downs. If the ball does move that 10 yards, then a new set of downs are awarded. If the ball doesn't move 10 yards, then the 1st down becomes 2nd, becomes 3rd, becomes 4th. If the ball isn't advanced 10 yards, or past the initial down marker, on the 4th try, then the opposing team gains possession on that 4th down mark. So a team would rather kick the ball farther down field, rather than give the ball to the opposing team while it's relatively close to the end zone.
Calvin Johnson from the Detroit Lions is widely regarded as one of the best receivers of all time, he is 6' 5" and amazingly fast for his size. He could just out jump and out muscle people for the ball. Also you guys should react to the Legion of Boom, one of the best NFL defenses of all time.
~ 12:00 - 12:20 There are a couple factors which increase the difficulty of a gridiron field goal over a rugby penalty or a soccer free kick. First, timing. Like a golf shot, the motion for kicking a field goal is all about rhythm. The difference is that there are three components. The snap, meaning the pass between the center's legs to the man holding the ball. The hold... The holder must catch the snap and place the ball at the correct angle to the ground - which may change according to left or right placement, wind, distance, etc. On the transverse axis, the ball may be placed anywhere between the hashmarks, or roughly the middle third of the field. Most kickers favor a draw, or in-swinger trajectory. I.e. a right footed kicker ideally wants the ball on the left hash mark. Finally, the kick itself. If steps one and two are off, the kicker's rhythm is shot, and the odds of a successful attempt drop. The next thing to consider is the defense. The further the attempt, the shallower the angle. A shallow angle makes the kick easier to block. Rugby penalties and post-try conversions are mostly uncontested. If the kicker attempts to lift the ball, he sacrifices distance. It would be like trying to make a 300 yard drive with your 3 wood. Some may be able to do it, but you stand a better chance of making the distance with your driver. The longest field goal on record is, I believe 64 yards. More long field goals are kicked in Denver than any other stadium. The altitude makes the air thinner, which decreases aerodynamic resistance of the ball in flight.
@@joshuabolton3866 I mean he did go to an AFC Conference game and had a really good chance to go to the Super bowl but he blew it and never was the same again.
NFL games are covered by CBS and FOX for the daytime games on Sunday, with the night game coverd by NBC. And then the Monday night game is covered by ESPN. Thursday night games are now covered by FOX, while they were originally covered by the NFL Network, which I think may have gone under. DirectTV has a NFL package where you can watch every game on separate Alternative channels if the game isn't covered on your local channels.
Love watching you guys and you're picking up the game quite well. Hell, I have to explain what's happening in NFL to most of my friends who've been watching for 40 years so don't feel bad. Greetings from a NY Giants fan in New Jersey
Detroit has played on Thanksgiving Day every year since 1934, so that tradition is actually pretty old. Dallas has played on Thanksgiving Day every year since 1966 except 1975 and 1977. Since 2006, there has been a 3rd Thanksgiving game, but there is no set team for that one. There were Thanksgiving games before 1934, also with no set team involved.
A lot of these clips have background stories that make the moments better. Like Randy Moss was upset he wasn't drafted by the Cowboys so he went all out on them. Leon Lett has multiple Super Bowls and is still a coach for the Cowboys today, but he's forever known in town for his plays where he messed up.
Can’t wait till this is over, I had a trip planned and payed for to come to your neck of the woods but obviously couldn’t make it. Always a pleasure to watch you guys
Just want to touch on a few points you guys made: We get the NFL on CBS, NBC, FOX and ESPN during the 17 game schedule each week... Almost every Sunday from 1 pm - 11pm we get all day football in America. Monday nights we get games which have been a tradition since the 1970s and recently Thursday nights as well. Friday night football is typically high school players and Saturday football games are usually college in the US. And yes Thanksgiving Thursday we usually get 2-3 games every year and Detroit and Dallas ALWAYS host a separate game each at home. For further reactions please watch: Randy Moss, Peyton Manning... all time great players And Barry Sanders and at 5:45 Calvin Johnson... the two greatest Detroit Lions players ever who both were on all time record career paces but suddenly retired at 30 years old, most likely because the Detroit Lions are a bad losing team for decades, are poorly run and have no championship aspirations.
Thanksgiving day games in the NFL go back to the 1920s; the Lions become became a traditional host in 1934, the Cowboys in 1966 (Cowboys have only been around for about 60 years). The FG attempts, usually occur once a team crosses the 50 yrd line (midfield) going towards their goal. Generally once you hit about the 35-40 yd line you are considered in "FG range" because you have to add 17 yrds to the kick, 10 yrds from the end goal line to the back of the end zone, and 7 yrds for the holder; so usually the FG attempt is done when a team is on the scoring half (or opponents half). Very rarely will a kicker attempt a kick with the ball being place held at the 50 or in their own defensive half. Longest FG made in the NFL is 64 yrds. The reason 60+ yrd(and most 50+ yrd) attempts aren't often attempted is because if the ball is short the other team has a chance to return it, kind of like a punt. NFL is on regular broadcast/over the air TV on FOX (NFC and Thursday night), CBS (AFC and Thursday Night) and NBC (Sunday Night Football). Monday Night Football is on ESPN which is a cable/satellite network. Some games are also carried on the NFL Network which is also cable/satellite TV.
Hey guys! Love your stuff, and Happy Thanksgiving (though I know it's not a holiday for the UK). To answer your network questions, yes, for the most part you can watch more than a few games on regular networks (non-cable), such as NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX. For the Thanksgiving games that I watched today, the first game pitted the Detroit Lions against the Houston Texans, and it was on CBS at noon today. The afternoon game was the Dallas Cowboys against the Washington Football Team (formerly known as the Redskins. They changed their team name after years of protests for the term Redskin, as it's a derogatory insult for Native Americans). Houston beat Detroit 41-25, while Washington beat Dallas 41-16. I didn't get to see the Detroit game, but I saw the Washington/Dallas game, and for the latter, both teams were 3-7 in the season (won 3, lost 7). So it was really kind of a needless game to watch, and it was more embarrassing seeing Dallas lose how they did than anything. When you see two losing teams play each other, it's commonly referred to as a tank game, or Tank Bowl. I recommend watching a channel called Urinating Tree, who does a weekly summary of the NFL games every Wednesday. Believe me you'll be very entertained, and he really does a great job in summarizing each game and team play throughout his videos. Sorry to be so long winded. Hope you guys are doing well and are staying in good health, and I look forward to more of your reaction videos as well. Cheers!!
You mates are spot on with NFL. Love it!! Field goal record is 63. I think 4 or 5 guys have kicked 63. Buffalo Bills mafia or Buffalo Bills tailgating are screaming your names. Loads of videos!! Cheers!!
All the Thanksgiving games will be nationally broadcast. Without NFL Sunday ticket or some streaming service most people won't see every game on a Sunday just select few. Thursday night football games are free on Twitch and Amazon Prime.
If a team decides to try a field goal the play begins from the spot where the last play ended. So a team can try a field goal from the 25, for example, if their last play stopped at the 25. If their last play stopped at the 50 yard line then if they want to try a field goal the play will start at the 50. Remember though, that the kicker and the holder are about 7-8 yards behind the line of scrimmage (where the last play ended) , so the attempt will be longer than you might think. AND. . .You're wrong about the placement of the ball in relation to the goal. . .It is NOT always kicked from directly in front of or "centered" in front of the goal. Look closely at the field. There are lines called "hash marks" running parallel down the middle of the field. For a field goal attempt the ball is always placed on the hash mark closest to where the ball was downed on the previous play if the play ended "outside" the hash marks. If the previous play ended "between" the hash marks then the ball is placed where the player was downed. So it might not be directly in front of the goal posts.
I saw one of you said you had a connection to WVU. You should do a reaction video of Tavon Austin's "The One" (Senior year highlights). It has over 20 million views. He was one of the fastest Receivers to ever play. He ran a 4.2 40 yard dash and has one of the nastiest jukes ever.
NFL practice schedule: Play- Sunday, Monday - review film to learn from mistakes and rehab, Tuesday- players off day while coaches watch film on next game and game plan new strategies, Wednesday- most physical practice wrking on new game plan in pieces, Thursday- less physical & adding more game planning with adjustments, Friday- only walk threws giving players a "30,000 ft view" of how all the pieces wrk together then Saturday- travel and meetings maybe more walk threws . In addition all week they are lifting, having meetings (game planning) and studying film of the next opponent .
Payton and Eli both have two Super Bowl wins but Eli was MVP twice and Payton just once. All time passing yards Payton is 3rd and Eli is 8th. Most passing TD's Payton 3rd, Eli 9th. Most wins all time Payton tied for 2nd, Eli tied for 11th.
Cowboys and Lions play on regular network TV (terrestrial). Always. The third "night cap" game is a newer thing. And usually on cable/dish network. I forgot when it started.
The first Thanksgiving day game was in 1934 between the Detroit lions and the Chicago bears. The cowboys didn't play until the 70s when they became Americans team. The cowboys are the team that people without a team support because of their history of success.
Grew up doing parade first.....screaming at the tv during the Lions game, then turkey dinner. When I got older, actually went to the parade and the game itself. Had to find a family member who actually stayed home and cooked to get my turkey and stuffing and pie! 😂
Here in America there is lots of NFL on free TV. However yes, you can by NFL sports packages on cable and get every game, every week. That holds of course for every sport, and this country has just about every sport in the world. One thing that needs to be talked about is the betting aspect of sports in the U.S.. The betting industry and odds making, drives sports in this country. When it comes to football you can bet on anything: The coin toss, the score (after each quarter), the number of field goals attempted/made, passing yards, rushing yards, receptions, RB carries...on and on. This type of granular betting applies to every sport in this country, it's big business, it's a point of concern when it comes to cheating and point shaving, and is closely watched by lawmakers.
Hel Gar betting is the same here on sports. My bet split each week has all kinds of crazy possibilities such as corners, yellow / red cards, throw ins etc 😂👍🏻
What happened on the Miami play is this (it gets complicated): Dallas tried to kick a FG. Miami blocked it. The play doesn’t end. Usually it’s over because either a) players stop playing and refs just kind of call the play off or b) someone from Miami will touch the ball, ending the play. BUT.... If an offensive player (Dallas) touches the ball first, it’s considered a live ball and the defense can attempt to advance it. So when Leon Lett (btw you should watch this guy, he was an absolute freak athlete) touched the ball for Dallas, the ball became live. Miami recovered the ball in the end zone, which made it a touchdown. That’s 6 pts. Then they kicked the extra point for the complete 7 and won the game.
Actually Miami was attempting a game winning field goal that was blocked by Dallas. If the blocked kick goes behind the line of scrimmage it is a live ball and the offense can advance it. In this game the ball deflected past the line of scrimmage therefore Miami could do nothing. Once they touch the ball, it becomes a dead ball. Once the ball stops, the refs blow the play dead. But if a defensive player touches the ball it becomes live again. Leon Lett hit the ball and it was recovered by Miami short of the end zone. Miami then kicked the game winning field goal. Lett was a great player who got caught up in the moment and made a boneheaded play
Football isn't as complicated as it seems, once you know the basics. Watching it through your eyes as you quickly grasped on to the skill of these players was great fun, as exciting as the game itself.
The Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving day. Now they throw another random game in there too. Calvin Johnson Number 81 for the Detroit Lions was a beast.
Barry Sanders is the best Running Back of all time. What made him so special is he played for the Lions when they were one of the worst teams in the league every year. The opposing Defense knew that Barry was going to get the ball almost every play and they still couldn’t stop him
touchdowns are 6 points with a kick after touchdown for 1 point or second try after touchdown for 2 points. Field goals are 3 points. Also you get 4 plays to move the ball 10 yards which if successful at any point gets another 4 tries.
footballs are a bit harder and less bouncy than rugby balls so they can't be kicked quite as far...but more importantly on a field goal, the kicker needs to kick the ball in upward angle because otherwise the defense which is right in front of him will reach their hand up and knock it down....if he had more space in front him, the kicker would put a lower angle on the kick and easily kick a 70+ yard field goal.
Gents. I have stage 4 cancer here in the states. I live in Pennsylvania. I watch your show every day and share it with everyone here I can. I’d like to help more.... at no cost to you. I had a radio show for 12 years about not only sports.. but pop culture. May I interview you.... possibly help promote the show? I think it would be fun! Cheers!! Pete
@@peterconnors1229 Kind of bummed. Was looking forward to watching it today. I'm surprised you are a Steelers fan considering you live closer to Philly than Pittsburgh. What is the reason you are a Steelers fan?
Since its inception in 1920, the National Football League has played games on Thanksgiving Day. The NFL's Thanksgiving Day games have traditionally included one game hosted by the Detroit Lions since 1934, and one game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys since 1966 Since 1978, the Lions and Cowboys have hosted a game on Thanksgiving every year. Detroit always plays the early game, followed by Dallas in the late afternoon and a rotating prime-time matchup added in 2006.
A proper Canadian Thanksgiving dinner is... Yes we have it too. Is Stuffed turkey (sausage and sage stuffing) with roasted or mashed potatoes, vegetables and cranberry sauce with gravy. Pumpkin pie for desert, followed by obesity and diabetes 😋
The field goal is set either on the left, right hash mark or in the middle of the field depending on where the ball was last marked down. So if it's outside the hashmark on either side it goes to that side.
The record for kicking is 63 yards. The kick is not always kicked from the middle. There are two hashes on each side of the field, the ball is always going to be placed between the hashes depending on where the previous play ended. So if you run to the right side outside of the hash, the ball will be placed on the right side of the hash. Right legged kickers often struggle with kicks on the right hash because of the angle, they are not straight in front of the field goal posts
The comment about passing is what we call a lateral. They do happen and in desperate situations you can see plays that resemble rugby. They are not common during most games though because possession in American football is key. Teams rather give the ball back on a punt then risk giving it back on a short feild tossing it around.
The Thanksgiving Day Football game started in 1934 by The Detorit lions Owner George A. Richards. the Lions played the Chicago Bears and lost. The Dallas Cowboys started playing on Thanksgiving in 1966....
Most games can be viewed by regular, absolutely free television over here... as long as you can catch a digital signal from the major stations that carry it (NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX). The rest of the games are... complicated. NFL contracts that are made with television stations are extremely expensive as they are some of the most watched programs on television. If you want to view where the contracts stand at the moment, have a look at the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_on_television#NFL_network_broadcasters Amazon also streams the Thursday Night games between October 8th until Christmas: www.amazon.com/primeinsider/video/pv-tnf20-schedule.html Contracts will be renewed in 2022, so there's a good chance some of this will change then.
newgrl we got the cbs feed for today’s Texans / Lions game but have a panel for Sky Sports. Couple ex players and an English host. Not sure who the players are tbf.
@@officeblokedaz That's more than me :) I gave up cable/satellite 8 years ago and I live in the middle of nowhere in the US, so no digital broadcast TV for me. Football is probably the only thing I really miss. I wish some streaming company would try to pick up some licensing in 2022. I would buy their service if they do.
NFL Thanksgiving games started in the early 1960's. For the first few years, it was always the Detroit Lions vs. the Green Bay Packers. Then the Lions played different teams every year for awhile. Then the Cowboys started hosting a 2nd game. In recent years, a 3rd game has been added, featuring different teams every year.
NFL on Thanksgiving goes back to 1920; Lions have been playing in the game every year since 1934, the Cowboys began in 1966. No Thanksgiving day games during WWII.
Peyton Manning played most of his career at Indianapolis. In retirement he does Insurance commercials in a very humorous way, as Peyton was always known for his quirky sense of humor. His younger brother Eli was QB for the Giants and I believe retired himself in the last year or so. In his case he retired at a low point in his career as he was not doing very good.
There's one Thursday night football game every week now. On thanksgiving there's normally 3 games now. there was a game rescheduled to Sunday from thursday this year due to COVID.
At about 5:00 y’all are like “that looks so effortless” not knowing they are talking about one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. Look him up, Calvin Johnson, AKA Megaton
It's probably worth mentioning (though this comment comes late) that 63 yards it's quite the distance to kick the ball though the uprights. About 57 meters! Plus the uprights crossbar is 10 feet above the field and at the back of the end zone, 10 yards further than marked!
Hi guys. The Mannings were a great football family. Peyton and Eli both played in the NFL. Supposedly their other brother was thought to be the best of the three as a young player, but was injured and ended his football days in either high school or college. Also their dad Archie was a quarterback in the NFL as well. Stay safe and well. Former Oakland Raider coach turned broadcaster John Madden started the awarding of turkey legs after the game to his choices for best players of the game. Over the years it became so popular they started having as many as 6 legs with the turkey. Oh here is another NFL tradition. The flyover. Very cool. ruclips.net/video/bv_6qiFAoP0/видео.html
The record is 64 yards by Matt Prater who was part of the Denver Broncos at the time. Next is a 3 way tie at 63 yards most recent by Jason Elam also of the Denver Broncos
I'm a little late on this video but great job my guys I also noticed that you said something about Panthers supporting the cowboys, this is a fact and pantera is actually from pantego texas which is a small town in the dallas fort worth area they were big cowboys fans
Yeah read this. It’s spot on.
Hey Cameron. Extra points used to be ball spotted at the 2 yd line held at the 10 making it a 20 yd kick. Now the ball is snapped from the 15 and held at the 23 making it a 33 yd kick.
For all you metric minded people, 64 yards is approximately 58.5 metres.
It was previously from the two yard line. Five yard line is in Canadian football, though.
He’s actually pretty spot on with everything he said about Thanksgiving so well done!
@@Zenon0K
Yes, they say Henry the 8th started the British tradition of eating Turkey on Christmas. They didn't really eat turkey before that.
The Mayflower had nothing to do with it and he left out after they fed them the so-called Pilgrim slaughtered them by the Millions
Butt fumble!!! That was on my birthday and I’m a Pats fan, so it’s a cherished memory. Such a funny play.
Thank you guys! We appreciate that from our British family. Cheers!
Clarification: George Washington made a proclamation for the first official Thanksgiving observance in 1789.
fairly sure the records 64 yards (64 meters for you) the difference in yards on kicks, say your kicking from the 20 yards line, thats about 35 yard field goal because you add the distance between the uprights and the touchdown goal line plus the 5 yards between where the balls snapped to where the holder catches it, adding 15 yards to it.
so basically to dumb it down just always add 15 yards to where ever it being kicked, hope that sums it up lol
Robert Vega I’m 100% watching them. Cold beer and a turkey burger or something 😂👍🏻
I would highly recommend videos by joesph Vincent. He doesn’t indepth videos on players.
Yea Joseph Vincent has great football videos, watch ray lewis!!!
The league definitely need to give him a job his work is better than theirs most of the time
Nobody brings it home like Joe Vincent. Nobody.
He does an in depth not he doesn't indepth.😂😂😂😂

12:58 daz explains the strategy behind field goals/field positioning very well for a beginner to understand.
I love these videos. I wish I could join in as just the NFL info person to answer all your questions. Great video again
same I wish I could too
The Dolphins recovered in endzone, but due to muffed kick rules, the ball was awarded to them on one-yard line.
There is 3 Thanksgiving games
-Game 1
Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions 12:30pm(EST) on CBS
-Game 2
Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys 4:30pm(EST) on FOX
-Game 3
Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers Had been postponed to Sunday due to covid reasons within the Baltimore Ravens organization.
Calvin Johnson was soooooooo good. Literally probably the best at what he did. You should do a video just reacting to his catches
It’s good that you guys are open to learn instead of just pretending to know everything. Great content
when they kick for 3 points it is totally different from when you kick for one point,You kick for 3 pointes when you need to for a game winner or you're at 4th down and instead of going for the 1st down you can kick for 3 pointes:)
I can see it now. The office blokes American football league. Northern division. The beginning of a new era of sports in the UK. 😆
Love your stuff guys!
Love how much yall have Learned of football just by watching . Love it !
~ 12:00 - 12:20
There are a couple factors which increase the difficulty of a gridiron field goal over a rugby penalty or a soccer free kick.

I love watching these friends across the pond enjoying American football. 👍🏼
It's called a Jegs machine. Happy Thanksgiving from across the pond from Tennessee Blokes
For further reactions please watch: Randy Moss, Peyton Manning... all time great players
And Barry Sanders and at 5:45 Calvin Johnson... the two greatest Detroit Lions players ever who both were on all time record career paces but suddenly retired at 30 years old, most likely because the Detroit Lions are a bad losing team for decades, are poorly run and have no championship aspirations.
Cheers!!
it is 64 yards by Matt Prater
You're right Charles! Just happened recently too!!
All the Thanksgiving games will be nationally broadcast. Without NFL Sunday ticket or some streaming service most people won't see every game on a Sunday just select few. Thursday night football games are free on Twitch and Amazon Prime.
Monday night games will be nationally broadcast as well.
The only Thanksgiving game I attended was the leon Lett debacle. Celebrating a win one second and disbelief the next.
Saw this video and immediately got hungry and thought about a nap because that's what happens on Thanksgiving with my family lol.
As I was still laying in bed this morning I was already thinking about eating and take a nap lol
NFL practice schedule:
Play- Sunday, Monday - review film to learn from mistakes and rehab, Tuesday- players off day while coaches watch film on next game and game plan new strategies, Wednesday- most physical practice wrking on new game plan in pieces, Thursday- less physical & adding more game planning with adjustments, Friday- only walk threws giving players a "30,000 ft view" of how all the pieces wrk together then Saturday- travel and meetings maybe more walk threws .
In addition all week they are lifting, having meetings (game planning) and studying film of the next opponent .

What happened on the Miami play is this (it gets complicated):
Dallas tried to kick a FG.

Since its inception in 1920, the National Football League has played games on Thanksgiving Day. The NFL's Thanksgiving Day games have traditionally included one game hosted by the Detroit Lions since 1934, and one game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys since 1966
Since 1978, the Lions and Cowboys have hosted a game on Thanksgiving every year. Detroit always plays the early game, followed by Dallas in the late afternoon and a rotating prime-time matchup added in 2006.
Not too much cringe, and we appreciate your enthusiasm!
Love your NFL reactions!
The field goal is set either on the left, right hash mark or in the middle of the field depending on where the ball was last marked down. So if it's outside the hashmark on either side it goes to that side.
Would love to see you guys react to Barry Sanders and Walter 'Sweetness' Payton.
Normally most games are on broadcast on regular (non-cable) channels. 1 or 2 games a week are on cable.
If you want to view where the contracts stand at the moment, have a look at the wiki page:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_on_television#NFL_network_broadcasters
Amazon also streams the Thursday Night games between October 8th until Christmas:
www.amazon.com/primeinsider/video/pv-tnf20-schedule.html
Contracts will be renewed in 2022, so there's a good chance some of this will change then.
newgrl we got the cbs feed for today’s Texans / Lions game but have a panel for Sky Sports.
Henry the Eighth started the tradition of eating turkey on Christmas. The bird was not known in Britan before then..
61 years of NFL thanksgiving football
Yall should play madden so everyone can get a glimpse of a playbook
Why doesn't this have more likes
Peyton Manning played most of his career at Indianapolis. In retirement he does Insurance commercials in a very humorous way, as Peyton was always known for his quirky sense of humor. His younger brother Eli was QB for the Giants and I believe retired himself in the last year or so. In his case he retired at a low point in his career as he was not doing very good.
There's one Thursday night football game every week now. On thanksgiving there's normally 3 games now. there was a game rescheduled to Sunday from thursday this year due to COVID.
The Detroit Lions have played every year on Thanksgiving since 1931, with the exception of '41-'44 due to WWII.

You should do a rection to the best touchdown celebrations, fun stuff.
