It's not a question of good, betters best. But I thought the RCA sounded a tad brighter, while the Funken in the low to mid was a bit fatter and not as bright. They're just different depending on what you're looking for to your ear.
l agree the RCA sounded cleaner but did he give the Telefunken time to warm up ? l would stick with the 'R' and adjust the amp for a beefier mid and low and if dat don't ger it? Perhaps a prayer or two while kneeling during post.
I own a few Telefunken 12AX7 tubes and a own a ton of GE and RCA 12AX7 NOS tubes as well. I actually prefer the RCA and GE tubes, plus on top of the great tone they cost a hell of a lot less. To my ears i didnt hear a reason to stop using my RCA and GEs when i compared them with the Telefunken. But everyone has different tastes and is searching for something different, so what may work for me may not work for you.
If ya like RCA or GE's try out the Reflector 6n2p NOS Military spec preamp tubes, you have to rewire your tube socket or you can get a 6n2 to 12ax7 adaptor. But these sound very close to my ears to RCA and GE NOS tubes and they cost next to nothing. Im shocked you dont see more companies using this tube.
Was given an old Bell & Howell real to reel tape recorder that smoked very quickly after I plugged it in. It’s a model 785 and lo and behold. It had one early 60s Telefunken 12 AX7 in it. I checked the price on eBay, and decided if it didn’t make a huge improvement in the V1 position of my Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50 , I would sell it and pocket the windfall. I could not believe the difference between the NOS Tung-Sol USA made tube that I had in there originally, and the Telefunken. Warm, sweet, high end, very tight but perfectly equalized tone. I would never have believed that a tube could improve, an already superior USA made tube. No wonder they sell for so much. Needless to say, it’s not going anywhere!
Just put a 1963 Hammond 12AX7A tube out of my old organ in my Vox Valvestate and it sounds amazing! Huge difference from the electro Harmonix tube that was in it.
Describe what this 'huge' difference is please. So you know, I've been playing valve amps since around 1977 and have used almost every ECC83/12AX7 you can imagine. Apart from obviously faulty valves I've yet to hear any real difference that even matters between any of them. All the nonsense surrounding this subject is...well, nonsense. I have 4 original Mullards from the 70's and a couple of Brimars. Come around to my place and if you can tell the difference in a blindfold test between one of those and say a JJ Tesla then you can keep it. Get real.
@@chillidogkev I don't have the amp anymore, but there was a clear difference. It went from having a really bassy fuzzy type distortion to a nice smooth well-rounded tone when I put the Hammond tube in. it was a clear difference.
Hey was wondering could you help me. Looking for a tube for vocals only and these 4 kept poppin up: Just want it to cut through the mix, nice and smooth, with crisp smooth high end no harshness and all round clean. Nothing muddy. @@ctcards2636 People overlook ther Sylvania and old Tung-sol tubes which are great tubes
@@ctcards2636 l just wonder if, after l place the adapter in place with the tube on it, will there be enough room in my microphone for it to fit ??
@@ctcards2636 Thanx ever so much for sharing this knowledge.
0:55 RCA 12AX7A
1:51 TELEFUNKEN 12AX7
thank you
Being able to immediately switch back and forth between the two, to my ears I prefer the RCA. It just seems to have a bit more body and warmth. My 2¢
Telefunken has less distortion and breakup. Better to my ears.
definitely smoother tone

I feel that the RCA won again. Would like to hear it against an early Mullard
I will do that when I get one if I do not have one. The preamp tubes I run are primarily RCA's because to me they sound the best
@@vacuumtubesandguitars absolutely, it's rare that I don't use at least 1 RCA 50s blackplate in any amp , they seem to be king .
I did have a Mullard stashed away so I made a video against an RCA ruclips.net/video/YJGoUPq8tfs/видео.html
By using headphones the Telefunken sounds smoother. The RCA is much agresive but sounds distorted to me
I had not thought of using headphones, great idea!
RCA is a more "neutral" sound. Telefunken sound has more "meat" in there. Personally, I prefer Telefunken.
I wish I had 3 Telefunken 12AX7 to put in all positions, I bet that would be great
Was the Telefunken vintage or a newer one made at the JJ factory? The Telefunken is the greatest tube ever made. I have one tattooed on my skin.
This is an old one made at the Berlin factory
Ha! ha! There you go, you should have gotten tattooed in Berlin... ha! ha!
Where can I buy one of these tubes in south Africa
I have no idea
Once more, RCA won, to me. Telefunken is not bad but RCA is a little sweeter, more rounded, yet still clear.
That is why the RCA is the tube that stays in this amp!
😊

@@TzoHill a great decision
Telefunken more mids and smoother, not as chimney or twangy as the RCA, this is what I heard on my iPad
You pretty much nailed it!
RCA seems to be the better of the 2.
The RCA is the one I keep in this amp, just sounds better to me.
Telefunken sounds better. But black plates sound best.
