I didn't think of him as a serious actor for the longest time. I heard about the stoner movie and knew he was in romcoms (my most hated genre). I kind of just passed on a movie if it had him bc I wrongly assumed they just wanted a pretty face. Then I saw True Detective S1 for the first time last year and was blown away. The only TV show I watched start to finish and then immediately restarted at episode 1. I'm catching up on the rest of his work now

Interesting, because neither Hugh Jackman nor Russell Crowe are physically appropriate for the comic book character Wolverine-the original guy I read they wanted was Glenn Danzig, the heavy metal guy, who is relatively short (5-3) and massively built - and that’s Wolverine. He’s supposed to be like a tank, and low to the ground- not a tall imposing figure. It all worked out it seems, and Jackman made a lot of money but he would have been successful without that role; it probably has held him back in certain ways. He still got to be in Les Miz the movie so he still got roles, but I still see a surly guy with claws no matter what part he plays.
