Thanks, Sensei. Great points. One question, though, is that whilst your tip on speed is great to avoid telegraphing, your tips on balance shifting and dropping for power (which I fully agree with) would seem to telegraph and attack. Do you have any tips on how to hide the attack whilst still executing the kick as you said?
Good technique
What a great fighter sensei Jesse...
One question I have for you...as much effort you put into Karate...I hope you also put your efforts onto looking for the Creator...
Who is GOD and how do we worship him properly?
Hi I'm a huge fan of yours and i also do karate . And your way to understand the peoples how to do what and what is not in karate is awesome
Are you a karate master?
“Transfer your weight before you kick.” Such a simple concept, but so effective! Thank you!
Dear Jesse, I am a Wushu practitioner from Bangladesh. I want to convey my heartiest thanks to you for your wonderful tutorials on martial art. Though I practice a different style from that of yours, I undoubtedly admit that these tutorials have come to great benefits for me till date! Please do carry on your overwhelming efforts to disseminate the glare of martial arts all around! Best of luck dear! 😊
Heyyy!!!
I'm from Bangladesh too!!

@@maishafahmida334 Nice to know! Stay connected dear ☺️
@@maishafahmida334 same :)
That help a lot!!! My teacher never told me this, he only told us to put power and speed but didn’t really showed us how. And that’s why I always struggle with kicking but thanks to you I feel much better now!☺️
OH MY GOD!!!! SUCH A BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION!!!! I FORCED MY FULL CLASS TO SEE IT.....LOVE FROM INDIA ❤️
I've been affiliated and trained under a shotokan karate school of thought for 23 years and I have forgotten much of what Jesse was demonstrating in this video, but I will be reincorporating this back into my kihon beginning today. Thanks Jesse. Oousu
This is the best channel ever. I mean, there's history, techniques, secrets revealings and the best part: how Jesse explains each and every point. The best channel ever.
Nothing like someone who knows what they are talking about and explain it clearly and quickly. Thanks.
Much appreciated! 👍
The idea of dropping for balance and power seems so simple but so effective. I can imagine similar techniques can be applied to punching too.
Couldn’t help but think that coaches would have similar ideas for batters, quarterbacks, boxers, basketball players, etc.
Thanks for the info you share here!
Speed, Balance and Power. Thank You for the deep explanation.
Med shotokanbakgrund själv och som en English teacher är det riktigt nice att se så detaljerade instruktioner med flytande engelska så att fler människor kan förstå. Great work!
I really needed this wisdom. My school doesn't really elaborate on this except that we are supposed to use our hips. I happy that you made a video on this!
Jessy, you are not only a very good karate instructor, but also an excellent English language teacher. Your pronunciation is perfect
Thanks! Much appreciated 🙌
honestly ,in 7 years of doing kyokushin, after watching this video, helped me to fill in the gaps that i needed. thanks ..much respect.
Two days ago, I was talking to a senpai about how my kicks were my weakness. Today this video shows up in my suggestions... I will certainly be taking the advice in this video to heart.
Excellent! Good luck 👍
I used to practice karate when I was a kid and I was always proud of my balance when I did my kicks. That same balance, I learned from practicing karate, even integrated into and helped my basketball play style 😎
Karate all day 🔥🎯
Jesse, you can take the speed part one step further by timing the extension of the knee to just before the upper leg is pointing at the target. I love the way you explain these concepts and will absolutely use them in my teachings. THANK YOU!!!
Studied for 13 years and will say you are a wealth of knowledge!!
I won a tournament THX TO YOU I do shotukan karate

ZaPtrof pro tip : it's shotokan there is no u anywhere
On November 9th, 2019 I went to my first tournament and in form I got 2nd in techniques I got 2nd and sadly in sparring I got no medal but I was happy when they announced the winner which was my school 3 consecutive years so we kept the flag and our first degree Nikki got a grand champion and also third degree Mitch who is tall but I was happy at the end.
Kenpo for me
I find this very useful because when you start karate, you don't always think about these things. Now I'll do better karate. Thank you.
Love your videos, and as a beginner instructor, I learn so much about how to teach. Thank you!!!
when i was a kid for the past untill now i am close to Karate Always!! Osu!! Sensei!

Thanks a lot. Yes, I do have these 3 faults. This will help me. Thanks again!
You have helped me during this quarantine thanks for the great lessons
It is the best definition of moves I have ever found. I used to go to Karate classes but my teacher never told me these minute details. I was kicking the wrong way my whole my life.😂
its nice to see kicks broken down into segments like this! Thankyou jesse
Glad you liked it! 😄👍
Very good tutorial , very basic stuff for an advanced student , but you can always learn something from a proper explanation, Many people know this, but they don't know how to explain it to another student, or group of students, and that is what you do so well. Thank you for an excellent kick tutorial.
I found this traditional karate secrets useful . Just to let you know there is no one to train me but then again there is you to guide me ❤
The Taekwondo Kid same situation as you
Hey, I just started learning karate at home, and you’re a literal legend. Thanks for good explanations in every aspect!
You are a very good teacher, sensei Jesse. Thank you very much😀
WOW!!! I've been working on developing my kicks for my upcoming belt exam, (I'm a white belt currently). I came to this video looking for just about anything to help improve, and I am FAR from disappointed! As the video progressed, I applied each separate technique. By the end I put everything together, and everything seemed to flow! This video helped me so much! Thanks a million Jesse!!!
Wonderful to hear! Glad you liked it. Keep training hard (& smart!) 😄👊👍
@@KARATEbyJesse An update on the belt test! As of now, I just got home from the testing. My instructor commented on my kicks, saying that they were exceptionally sharp and quick. That I had very good balance, especially for a white belt! Once more, thanks again Jesse. Your advice truly helped me succeed!
You explain super clear, it can`t be better than that!
Easy to understand, the way you show is exelent
Excellent explanation about the biomechanics of kicking. I teach karate to children and young teens. Learning the foundational skills at a young age will help them on their karate journey. Much gratitude for your teaching Sensei Enkamp. 🙏
Thank you for your tips. They’re very clear and useful. My master also kind of told us but here I can check it whenever I want to. Thank you!
This was a very helpful tutorial. Thank you.
I already kick fast from a TKD background but when i found this, this video is literally sent from heaven. I didn't know i can kick at the speed of sound lol 😂 glad i found this while I'm still young
Thank You! Excellent presentation! I am practicing right now for my competition on this Saturday. And I will incorporate these secrets in my practice.
Hello I'm from Argentinean. I am a Student of (KARATE DO. SHOTO RYU) Always look its videotapes are Excellent. Greentings 😘
Awesome clips. Watching them has really helped me improve my learning, practice at home and kumite
You’re fantastic and you’re tips are very useful and amazing!!
Thank you! 😄👍
Jesse Enkamp thank you so much for your videos😃
The technique for power is really new and I'm definitely going to try it.
Thanks...
I love this video for it simple wisdom. In our kata called Kihon Kata Go we are required to do 3 moving kick punch combos. When I first learned the kata we were not worried as much about some of the super fine point mechanics. As I went up in rank my instructor began to tell me little subtle changes such as not straightening my back leg and coming up for the kick. Now that I have watched this video it makes a lot more sense. Thank you for all the wisdom you impart.
Excellent Sense , Excellent council
Been teaching Tae Kwon Do for 30 years. We call these the basics. Thanks for sharing.
Just starting out and this video is perfect for my foundation and understanding as I learn all the different kicks. Thank-you!
Awesome advice, yet very simple. Thank you.
These are pro tips👌👏 I am going to try in my today’s kick practice session 👍 Thank you for sharing .
I love your quote "best general win the battle before it happen" OSU
So informative class. It really helped me with my so many confusions. 💞
Sensei thank you for this post !! Thanks passed my orange belt grading today In shotokan karate and speed power and balance in kicking is essential. Learning every day .... Ossu
Hi Jesse. Over 20 years ago I asked some praying mantis teachers in Northern California. The master admitted he retired, but he wanted to know who I was and had I any previous. I affirmed both and for some reason he offered this advice given my age at the time. He said, "praying mantis King fu" does not require high kicks. Keep your kicks low and generate more lower, he said. So since that time that is what I have attempted to do. This lesson in this video the technique needed to do it. Thank you for this lesson. I am ready to practice on old trees.
Jessie I already know these techniques and how to execute them with speed balance and power, however, I needed to see this video to help me to teach this knowledge to my students. I did not know how to describe or vocalize the need for all 3. Thank you for helping this Karateka to vocalize what my mind and body know as Instinct. Your videos are the best my friend. Robert Baker Sensei. Matsubayashi Ryu Karate-do
I love the comparison of closing and opening a door. I'm going to use that next time. Everybody tends to just move the foot. Domo arigato!!!
Thanks sensei im a white belter and trying to improve my movements
Jesse, that was amazing advice! I have been kicking for years, but as soon as I applied your technic, especially dropping my weight before I chamber, my balance improved so much. Thank you so much!
Great! Makes me glad to hear ☺️
This is great stuff. Over the years I have become more focused on bio-mechanics in stances and techniques, especially in instructing older students. Younger students need it too, otherwise they'll have to unlearn bad habits.
This video is very good to learn more about kicks. I'm from Porto Alegre, Brasil.
Short,Easy,Simple,Working WOWWWWWWWWWWW! JESSE
Very good video. You have the right way to teach. Thank you for your wisdom.
thanks for the tremendous info. i am a former shotokan practioner. now in my 60s i have the urge to start again. unfortunatly there are no or very very limited martial arts dojos where i now live
Thanks for these tips Sensei Jesse! Super helpful as a whitebelt
Very well explained! Hip rotation is also important to create torque force in addition to pulling force from the ground and then fast delivery and return to starting dachi.
Bedankt Jesse. Zeer goed uitgelegd.
I think this video is very important because a lot of martial artist have that habbit of kicking off balance but quick with no power. Thanks so much Love this video. OSU!
Hey man just wanted to say thank you I'm excited to apply these techniques to my kicks
I love ur channel
Great advice. Something I was doing without realising now I can explain it better to others. Osu.
I got right up and practice these immediately. You are excellent teacher. Helped me so much. I know I am going to watch this video many more times. I’m practicing hard for my next grading. After, I am going to reward myself with a Seishin Gi!!!! ❤️
Thank you and good luck! 😄🌟👊
i’m 14 years old and i’m orange belt right now, grading for green belt in August
thank you for the advice i’m pretty sure this will help me improve :)
Thank you so much for explaining... this is such an eye opener...
This was quite helpful. Thanks! You are right to say that we should to seek what great masters sought. This is the essence of tradition! Great philosophy behind every art.
Put Portuguese subtitles in your videos please !! I watch everyone and would like to understand them better!🙏
Very nice video, thank you once again Jesse. Lowering the body at the time of kicking will strengthen your center of gravity and power, fully agreed. To achieve this one must be able to relax the supporting leg. This feels counter intuitive because usually when our legs are tired due to hard workouts we tend to want to stand or go up in order to give the leg some rest (we usually do this unconsciously). But to lower the base leg one must be able to consciously relax it as well as the hip so it will become a downward rotating movement. Greetings from a traditional karate practitioner (Shotokai).
Thx so much now I'm one of the best students now🙏🏿❤️
Great explanation Jesse. A lot of beginners also don't realize how focusing on speed also improves power as power is directly linked to speed at impact (kinetic energy). Great video anyway!
I was always confused about the speed part and leg extension. I do close and open fast the joints, like you explained but the extension was what I was worried about.
Thanks for explaining so well Sensai!
Everything you said is 100% correct, it is how I was taught!it is also very important not to have too deep of a stance, because it forces you to come up to throw your Kick, before I was in karate I was in taekwondo a very deep stance
Brilliant hints and explanations! Well done. I will use them in my classes. Thanks.
You just a wonderful Sensei mate....!!!!
How I wish I could be in your class learning from you directly .....!!!!
Helped me a lot, especially after I failed to improve my kicks the last days...thanks a lot for this video. ありがとう😊
Nice secrets, thanks Jesse!
There’s an exercise that helps for do a geri with the support of the other leg. In motodashi, put back leg knee on the floor, and then while you are standing up do the Oi Geri. Consume a lot of energy and painful after 20 kicks, but really moves if a friend is sparring.
¡Greetings, i’ve read my day #2 mail and did my homework 😬!
Great explanation... because its simple to understand for both biginers and intermediate.. or whatever..... thank u
It's always interesting to watch different approaches. One taekwondo teacher told me to make kicks 'from above', where you basically lift your center of gravity before striking. It's kind of opposite approach though it felt interesting
I just started karate two days ago and I think this so cool! Ty!
Also having limbs close to Center of Gravity allows for faster turns the ability to change distance & direction increases power & speed with blocks and strikes as well as kicks. I generally like to keep my hands close to me.
I've improved balance more from doing Classical Stretch for the past 2 or 3 years than the same amount of time doing Karate. Miranda Esmonde White teaches exercises based on ballet that strengthen the feet and ankles. Also, she has you doing a lot of work standing on one leg including the "alphabet" exercise in which you "write" in the air one foot at a time.
It is amazing.... When we are a Black belt, most of this things we already know.... But not consciously. Great video . Great orientation. Kind regards from Brazil.
Hello Jesse I like yours videos like this one, where you explain in very good way how traditionals martial arts are so modern and currents. Good job👍
Great video, I always had a problem with the speed and stability of my kicks, but now I fell that I can overcome my weakness, thank you
Excellent tutorial Jessee !! BALANCE is everything ! ( spanish subtitles plissss ) GRACIAS !!
because of you I am really good at karate thx you are the best
Excellent videos Jesse. Extremely helpful!
Great instructional video! I can't help but think of Master Ken's "Thrust of Freedom" when you said, "... your pelvic activation and BOOM!..." at 5:52 Hahahaa
Always interesting and thoughtful points to embrace!
To add solid power, you got to add in targets to build up solid effects on contact. I like the Traditional kick/punching of trees, 2-inch ropes around a tree for throwing strength, and cold/hot weather meditation techniques.
