Nice video. Kastelorizo is one of the few Greek islands that we don't know. Many thanks for the videos. We are now in front of your boat and in August we will go North until Lesbos. We will check many of your videos!
Thanks so much Jorge. I must admit I was concerned that I might no be able to 'carry' the video without Baz. He does most of the filming and much of the commentary. So I did try hard not to let Team A B Sea down.
The story of Despina Achladiotou (1890-1982), the legendary Lady of Ro who for decades raised the Greek flag on the remote islet west of Kastellorizo, is one of the most touching patriotic tales of modern Greece. That was a fun outing. Thanks for sharing.
She was an incredible lady wasn't she? Some people show bravery in the most difficult of times. I'm glad you enjoyed coming along with me (Aannsha) on my trip. 😀
Great to see you can now start to venture further afield and enjoy international travel again. Very nice job with the video Baz is lucky to have a such talented first mate.
Well done, a great video, of a place i first visited in 1978, then in 1980. It looks much better now, More finished!!!!!! I went up that path to the top in 78!!! There was signs if bombing from ww2. Still got pics taken from the top, looking down on the town .
@@SailingABSea hi again, the first time the boat i was crew on went there, the boat 140 ft long, was reversing in to the town quay, and a big guy was organising all the the locals in Greek, once we were tied up he noticed the uk flag flying, the boat was Greek reg, he started speaking in the broadest Aussie accent with g day mates, how ya doin? His family had emigrated to Melbourne in the 30s , and he had returned to the island and had built a hotel there. No idea what his name was,,,, possibly Bruce?!!!!!!!
We stayed in Kastelorizo in 2018 with our Jenneau 45.2 WHUATI II, on our way back from Israel, via Cyprus. Beautiful quiet place especially as we were there end of March
Baz is lucky to have a lady for whom it is worth his while to work away from her so as to really enjoy the time he has with her. The best is always worth the price! I really hope that is comprehensible! The tour of Kastelorizo was really engaging, Aansha. Such a pity Baz wasn't there. But, maybe he'll get the benefit of your trail-finding!
Thanks for your tour of the island. We have beenb watching your videos since the beginning. Especially since we own a '95 Jeanneau 45.1 as well. 😊 Two Questions: What brand of teal shoes were you wearing while walking on land and in the water? 2) Are you going to be sailing in Greece area during Sept 20th to Oct 5th? We are chartering out of Athens. FYI - we have enjoyed your anchorage series. SV Misty Blue Yonder
Thank you! 1. They are Subea snorkelling shoes from Decathlon. I bought these directly in a shop in Antalya, but I also bought them online when we were in Greece. 2. Probably not but we hope you have a great time around the islands. So glad you found our anchorage series helpful. :)
So much cheaper with out Bazz Keep working Mate lol Stay safe both of you :) lol from Thailand . Greece just like walking the streets of Melbourne Australia :)
Yeah lol! But that's no reason to keep Baz in the UK... And a lot of the people from Kastellorizo went to Australia. I think the Aussies call them Kastos. 😀
Well for one day, yes. Customs, TEPEI, Costs of entering and leaving two countries... Plus I (Aannsha) cannot sail A B Sea single handed for a couple of reasons. And Baz is still in the UK. So the ferry was a good option.
Apparently before the events of the past two years, it was the norm for both TR and GR boats to visit each other without checking in. For instance, it was common for TR folks to pop over to Symi for the day and buy stuff and pop back and vice versa all with local authorities looking the other way.
Did I look lost? It was a good experience for me actually and I felt quite the intrepid traveller, doing it all on my own! Although I was focused on getting enough good footage and not letting down Team A B Sea. Baz will be home soon though. 😃
That was a lovely tour of the island. As you know, the Turks call it 'Meis' and the Greeks, 'Kastellorizo' - which is the name the previous occupying Italians (maybe Romans, I don't know) gave it which translates as 'Red Castle' . I used to visit there every 3 months or so for a period of several years whilst living in Kas. You may be interested to know it is a favourite place for David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) who wrote an entire album 'On An Island' inspired by it; ruclips.net/video/pMl_DTKAQwY/видео.html.
Lol you’ll have to first learn pronounce the name of the island correctly and then I’ll tell you how to say very beautiful in Greek. The stress is on the first O and the I is pronounced like in ridge not like in riot.
@@SailingABSea Pol’y or’ea or pol’y ‘omorfa. I have placed apostrophe before the vowel that is stressed. The two words have very subtle distinction in meaning and are often used interchangeably. That is the abstract form and the neutral gender plural. But it then becomes tricky because the adjective must follow the grammatical gender of the object of reference. In Greek all things have a gender, not only people but animals and inanimate objects. For male it becomes Oreos or Omorfos, for female Orea or Omorfi for neutral Oreo or Omorfo in singular. And then there are the plural forms. The word for beach is female for example, while that for island is neutral, for town or city is female but for village is neutral too…. Any beach, island, town or village can be any gender when referred to by its name though. See now why I tried to avoid answering to you? When in Greece just stick to very beautiful. Most any Greek will now what you mean.
Do you know who the Lady of Ro was? And why she was considered such a heroine? Let us know in the comments below!
Enjoyed the video with just you filming and doing the talking very calming voice
Oh thank you Sara!
Great video of the villages and the beautiful seascape
Glad you enjoyed it

Hi Luis, it was great to say hello yesterday! We're glad you enjoy our videos. If we don't see you before you leave, have a great sail to Lesbos.
Kastellorizo looks very charming, slightly off the typical tourist trail and all the better for it. And very well presented, thank you.
Thank you.
Great day out! Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
Thanks you two!
Thanks Aannsha loved the blue grotto
You're welcome Shelley! The grotto was incredible! x

Thank you very much!
So glad you got to kastelorizo. Beautiful place
It was charming. And I (Aannsha) would be happy to go again and stay overnight. There's more to see that I didn't have time for.

Great video Aannsha. Reminded me of when I went ferry hopping round Greek islands and ended up in Amorgos.
Oh hi Rob! Amorgos is a great island! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Fantastic vid Aannsha weather your sailing, on land on your own or with the legendary Baza , always an entertaining vid :-)
Many thanks Freddie!

Presumably it is too much of a hassle to sail from Turkey to Kastalorizo? Due to customs etc

(Baz) Yes that was the case just a few years back. Now it involves a lot of paperwork and money. ☹
you manage to put a very brave face during this video, but you look so lost without baz. i hope he gets back to you soon.
