Misting a plant is only good for getting newly emerging leaves unstuck. It’s a great way to damped the stuck leaf without overwatering the plant.

Great tips! But the last one is best advice…figuring out your growing environment and what works best for your plants. I have learned that being a plant parent is definitely trial and error. Listening to other peoples experience is good you have to start somewhere but taking that advice and adapting it to your growing conditions and plants.

Agree that there is so much underestimation of the importance of light. Another one I'd add to that is air flow! Especially if you are supplementing humidity or enclosing plants in some way.

I’m so glad you said that about the humidifier, I have been a indoor plant parent for 20+ years and I have lots and lots of plants, so much so that my family is sick of my plants at times, I did use one a long time ago, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

I love the one about humidity. I ordered a humidifier because the one I have and used for a little while don’t put the clouds high enough in the air. I decided to cancel it because I realized I was the only one stressed over humidity. My plants are doing great. It’s only in the winter when humidity is a problem. I just decided to stick it out and save my money for other things, like more plants or more grow bulbs, lol. I’m just glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t swear by humidifiers.

Guilty as charged for some of the mistakes. kinda funny too coz this was just too relatable.
guilty about the misting thing 'coz i thought it was fun to just give my plants a good sprits in the morning. and I hover over the plants like they might magically have a new leaf or something.
Never had a humidifier because my plants are balcony plants.
the only plants that i ever over watered (for some reason because i'm a constant underwaterer) are pothos plants like the manjula ang 'njoy pothos.
I mostly listen to the plant ladies; tips at our local orchidarium because we live in the same climate so I believe them more than YTers. :) I just love watching plant content (yours especially) for entertainment and to see what plants I would love to add to my wish list next.

Yo, helicopter plant parent to the max here. I don’t really fall prey to overwatering anymore, but I do get antsy, so I find sending people pictures or taking “update” pictures for my Planta app scratches that plant-chore itch. And dusting leaves.
This is such a fantastic and informative video. One of my fav of the Vlogmas. Making mistakes is a natural part of the process of plant parenthood. Thanks for sharing :)

If you live in a climate where your heater kicks on in the winter get a whole house humidifier. It works through your heat ducts and will pump out warm humid air all winter. It’ll keep your entire house at a constant 55% humidity during the driest winters. It’s the only thing that I’ve found that works well.

    • @FollowMyLeaf
      @FollowMyLeaf Год назад

Agree, we did this but it's been so cold and dry here that even with it running it dropped to 19% 😪 back to 30s now though. Depends on how big your house is and what level it's on etc. I wish I could get constant 50s!

I have had plants in my home for the past 30+yrs.
I’ve been an avid collector for the past 5yrs.
Currently I have 200+ plants…common, uncommon, “rare”, difficult to easy.
The only pests I’ve had in the past, not currently, is fungus gnats.
I have never had thrips, spider mites, meely bugs. I don’t use, and currently don’t have is pesticides. I don’t use fertilizers or growth enhancements.
I grow all my plants in soil Miracle Grow. They are watered with tap water and live in my house environment with no added humidity.
I live in the USA Wva with change in seasons.
I don’t deal with root rot or dying/declining plants. Some of my plants are 20+yrs old.
With that said…during our warm months I have the pleasure to take my plants outside and they taken care of by Mother Nature.
Colder months, I’m blessed with floor to ceiling windows in all the rooms in my house (I live in a cabin in the Mnts)I take care of them by showering them each time they’re watered. Now not all my plants need watered at the same time and they are all thriving and surviving.
And BTW most all are in terracotta pots.
Some might think this could possibly not be true, but it is, this is MY way to grow my plants and it works and it works for me and I save a LOT of $$ 😊
