I hope coach javier teach usman that if he ever gets eye pocket again to never turn his back to his opponent especially when the referee didn't say stop. Thankfully Shabliy acted with grace and honor and didn't attack usman when he turned his back but somebody else would have attack even if you got eye pocket. It's protect your self at all times. Look at every fight as if its a real fight and no referee can help you or your opponent Look at geathje for example when he got eye pocket by chandler and turned his back, what happened ? Chandler still attacked and hit geathje and he was lucky he took the punch without getting rocket.
Honorable Coach Mendez, I saw your post training speech at Dagestan and was touched by it when you got emotional talking about the Dagestani team culture. I went through the same experience when I went to Asia and the people there shared the same exact values and treated me with love I had never experienced. I think its because in Western culture, life is individualistic and material driven and everyday is a competition. And so when people like us meet our fellow Eastern cousins or in your case the Dangestani team, we get a glimpse into a culture and a system of values where they put family, religion and devotion towards helping others above self gain - very contrary to our life here in the west where every man is for himself. People like the Dagestanis and many Easterners live very simple and happy lives and it comes as no suprise when we see them, we just get overwhelmed by their kindness. Was this what you experienced and touched you so deeply when you went to Dagestan coach?

Shaffi Just didn't have the skills to win, he seemed to have no idea of how to deal with a long southpaw that retreated a lot. His opponent was slow as hell and was only throwing a right hook counter whenever shaffi tried to attack, which was enough to make shaffi not wanting to attack. If shaffi knew how to throw long combination and stand switch in the middle of throwing those combination he would have been able to deal with his opponent. Geathje was doing a lot of that successfully against Poirier in the rematch, he was throwing combination while at the same time also switching stances from conventional to southpaw, shaffi should study that fight. Petr yan is also good with that technique, he was using it a lot in his early ufc fights. Poirier is a nother guy good at it he was rocking max holloway a lot with that technique. A nother way to deal with that southpaw righ hook counter counter would have been for shaffi to simply step in throw a jab to bait a reaction than deep down to avoid the right hook counter and than throwing combinations starting from the body and following upstairs, and he would have dealt with that guy easily.
I definitely felt that ImamShafi was too tentative, and clearly did not show his true abilities against a tricky and dangerous opponent. This was a case of the right mental approach something Khabib talks a lot about when you enter the cage and go to dark places it’s that mental toughness. In that context you have to draw on something personal in your life to strengthen your determination and courage. As you said coach - unbalance the other fighter putting pressure and pace and relentless attacking to break the other fighters will. It’s a very difficult skill - defeat could be the making or the breaking of the fighter. Let’s hope team Khabib can help ImamShafi get stronger.

I think khabib might be the best high pressure fighter in the history of mma. And he looks so dominant than when you see Islam, Usman or Umar they look inferior, but its just that they approach the fight different, Islam loves to create 50/50 situations with the tkd threat, Umar keeps his distance and waits for the right timing to choose his tkds, and Usman uses his striking almost all the time and when they engage in the clinch he use his wrestling.

Think about it, Michael Chandler is ranked number 7 in the ufc 😂😂😂. Usman Nurmagomedov and Shabily would run through him. Mma level is much closer now. Mma is growing
