I think it's so much better than the cocktail dial from the other review. This is how it should be done. If you have a busy pattern you should have a subdued color. It reminds me of a black oxide that you would see on a blued firearm or a dark abalone.

Finally someone else is talking about the 1959 Seikos! I got the SPB241 when it came out, and adore it. Don't understand why more people aren't talking about what could be a great one watch collection. I've worn mine from tea tastings to the top of mountains, and it's now pretty much the only watch I wear. Thank you for talking about it. :)
My Ginza arrived last week Jody and I was very happy to see your review pop up. Pretty much agree with your (and your contributor’s) summation. I didn’t notice the bracelet gap although I have switched to a teal coloured leather strap (20mm strap with 19mm spring bars). I agree the case thickness is fine, and consistent with its toolish purpose. In fact I consider this a very functional explorer type watch that just happens to have a spectacular dial.
All the Ginza models are sold out in UK, but I did find a used one at a reseller in London UK, this month in excellent condition with box, tag, etc. Paid a little over retail but that is to be expected. I have worn it every day and am very happy with it. My bracelet fits the case perfectly and luckily I get a perfect fit within the 2 micro-adjustments. Only niggle is the clasp angle. I am on the lookout for a 19mm navy blue sailcloth for an alternate casual look . . . . . . .
Check out Peter Kotsa on RUclips. He recently did a video on Artem straps and got two, one for his Tudor and one for his Seiko Divers. Dark Navy Blue 19mm Blue Sailcloth straps with deployant clasps. They are expensive though but from what I've read, the qualities there.
Wow, Seiko has really been going all out with their dials lately! Honestly, I think they're worth their affordable prices just for those beautiful dial designs
Thanks for reviewing my watch Jody and glad you agree with my moans and niggles too. It's such a shame that they produce such a killer dial and then cock up some of the minor details and QC. Personally, I'd have been happy with 100m water resistance if it meant a 12mm or under case and if it had 20mm lugs, a better endlink fit, a better clasp then it would have been perfect! (with a regulated movement and no dust 😆). Still love it though, despite the faults.
It's a beautiful watch Gary. I have a Presage CT Fuyugeshiki. Another beautiful dial. This review set me off again however, with these constant QC issues. If it brings you happiness, that's fantastic. I just think when you're spending that kind of money, at the very least, the watch should be clean. Thanks for sending these in to Jody regardless. I always enjoy these reviews. Even when they make ne grumpy 👍😁
Well done for sending your watch to the maestro, Gary. It's the 1st new watch I've bought in ages and I must have been lucky. Its gaining about 5s/day and the bracelet's fine. I'm with you and Jody on the clasp though. 2 links removed from the 6 o'clock side and I got a fortunate fit but the way the clasp sticks out on the wrist is horrible. Try a brown leather strap. Smart look and it's not too top heavy.
Two years old and people are asking between £1700-£2000 on ebay The ginza limited editions might be a good investment if you managed to get one when released I managed to get the presage one second hand. Never worn with plastic still on the strap for £500 Definitely going to look after it
Mine has arrived a couple of days ago, because I was lucky and fast enough to reserve the only one that Seiko sent to my local AD. I couldn't agree more with you, Jody: this is probably the best dial I've seen this year and it's lovely how it changes in the sunlight.
Looking at Seiko QC issues...the frequency seems to coincide with the dramatic increase in general online purchasing. I suppose if you want the Quality you expect, and it is important to you...the benefits are for those that do the work and hit their local B&M's for hands on purchasing.
Beautiful. I have 50yr old seiko 5s which are more accurate. Easy to regulate though as you say and I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on one of these. An absolute stunner.
I’ve had the cream dial 1959 Alpinist for a few months now and have really been enjoying it (though my moans about the clasp and lug width mirror your own). Too bad about the accuracy here; I’m happy to report mine’s been running steady at +/-2 spd.
Let me see if I can guess your complaints before I reach the conclusion: 19mm lugs, only 2 micro adjusts, and unsigned crown? Bonus round: 13 mm. thickness?
Beautiful watch! But why, oh WHY do makers always add a date complication when the source doesn’t have one!?!?! How great would that watch look with no date?! And a side note: I LOVE a single domed crystal! The slight distortion and light play is just beautiful! I wish all domed watches were single instead of double (sadly the split goes mostly the other way 😕). As always great job Jodi!
We need more watches with no date. They usually spoil the symmetry of the dial and stick out like a sore thumb. Luckily, this one is tolerable but would definitely agree no date would be a huge improvement.
I’ve had this watch now for a couple of weeks. The dial is absolutely stunning however I could not get a good fit on the bracelet which was a major let down. I ended up fitting an 18 mm double-locking foldover clasp with 6 micro adjustments to the Seiko bracelet. Apart from getting a decent fit, the divers style clasp has transformed how the watch feels on the wrist and befitting its 20 bar rating. It’s transformed the watch into a keeper. Seiko should be selling Alpinists with claps designed for a divers style sports watch considering the price and Prospex branding.
@@Gary-li7ib Hi Gary, it is an 18 mm NTH clasp. I also have an 18 mm strap code divers clasp which fits too. The NTH clasp is a tad more slender. I got the idea from this video. ruclips.net/video/mBKv2mfGWxw/видео.html. Rather than milling the link I ended up purchasing a second bracelet to get the required link which is pretty absurd but I’m happy with the overall outcome. I also spoke to Seiko Australia who were very responsive but couldn’t offer any solutions.
Have the SPB249 and love it as an everyday but do sometimes wish I could still find this one as that dial is beautiful and a lighter blue than on the 249.
Really pretty watch..... Tolerances are pretty weak for that price-point.... And that micro adjust..... But this is a still a good one for Seiko.... For Seiko fans... Considering their rising prices.... The unsigned be crown thing on the prospect line makes zero sense. Nice review.... As per usual.
So many things right with this. Seiko's typical pluses: Dial, case and case finishing, and hands. But typical fails: Clasp/bracelet issues, price, and the 6R movement. The 6R35, for being new, is nothing special. When ETA can just turn down a 40 year old movement and give people a longer PR with the same beat rate, your movement isn't special. Make the 6L standard or make an iteration with 8 clicks a second and 40 - 50 hours of PR.
Jody, thanks for doing this review. Got mine Oct. and after watching your video. mine got a dust on the glass above number 7. Other than that it was cool watch and mine is fairly accurate so far.
Lucky you, I’ve got 3 specks of dust on mine! And I can’t unsee them anymore 🤷♂️ the accuracy so far seems pretty good too. Much better than my other 2 Seiko’s…both lose about a minute a day!
It's a good thing we aren't buying any more Seikos for a while right! It is a beautiful dial though, the textures and colours combine and catch the light very nicely. I really enjoy the overall effect, like a modern gunmetal mother of pearl. I am the techniques lend themselves well to other colours that work well as a metallic, greens, browns, you want to keep somewhat true to the pavers though so no pinks etc.
I absolutely adore the dial - what does not work for me personally however, is the light blue seconds hand ! It would have been so much more classic, if it was left silver as the other hands. For that reason I would go for the SPB243 instead - however I just bought the Alpinist SPB197J1 unlimited "Mountain Glacier" and just love it to bits 🙂
I got myself this model but the blue "deep lake" which has better visibility and more discrete but also has some astonishing details when you look closer. I got to tell that this watch wears much better in reality than we can observe in YT reviews. I'm surprised how good is the quality of the bracelet and the dial. Very underrated model to be honest.
It’s a gorgeous little watch. Even if the dial looks like spider-mans web! I’ve been tempted to get this but I think it maybe a 2022 purchase now after the 11.11 sale
Just got myself one of these. Very nice overall, it’s 38mm diameter is absolutely spot on for my wrist size (around 6.9”) The only faults I’ve found so far are a small machining scar, on the inside of the clasp and 3 annoying specks of just located around and below the date window…once you see those, you can’t unsee them! Still, from arms length and in low light they’re not visible. Wish they weren’t there though.
I have one arriving today. I had 3-4 specks in my mojito that I brought new. Really bugged me so I contacted the retailer and they sent it back to Seiko and they removed them! Took about 6 weeks but now I have a perfect watch for life!
Jody Jody Jody. Of course the designers know about the shortcomings of their watch designs. It’s part of the marketing strategy. Leave us hungry looking for the next. If there is a unanimously ‘perfect’ watch. It’s discontinued. Seiko is genius at this strategy
That's gorgeous! I was thinking if they made one with the cobblestones here in İstanbul they'd have to add one or two of our famous street cats, a bit like the manta rays on the Prospex diver! I love it, I'd put this on a nice blue stressed leather strap. The timegrapher result is a bit disappointing but I managed to adjust my Seiko Turtle to +1 spd 6 months ago and it's still running the same. İt's not a tragedy, but definitely it should have been adjust a little better in the factory. Fantastic video as always Jody. On a side note this is the first time I couldn't get anything I liked on the 11/11 Ali Express sale. I choose a San Martin, particularly close to a certain Tissot, and when I added the 20% tax, it was more expensive so I bought the Tissot instead at a local AD this morning. The tax is pushing the prices up too much, particularly on the pricier watches. I've never had to pay more than a few usd on arrival before. Anyone else have this issue?
I wondered when you'd get round to this one Jody. Mine's beautiful though the clasp sticking out is a bit of a niggle for me. Great on brown leather though. I don't know where you're going to get this any cheaper Jody. Most places are sold out at the moment, but I've noticed used 'standard' ones going for around £400.
I feel bit disappointed with The watch accuracy though it was within the specs. Seiko used to have better QC even though the specs didn’t change since the first 6R15
Another review on point Jody, thanks! Just offering some feedback here: I get blank frames at the end of the review when you are referring to links to previous videos (this is the second time in a row). Just a lil' help with the channels QC 🤭
@@paulb9453 beautiful in person. A date wouldn't be hated, I have a decent collection, and I used it as my go to for a few weeks, in the sun it's beautiful and stunning. Now I've moved onto SRPH78J as my go to presage when I can.
Well done Jody on another great video. I really don't know why Seiko and many other entry level brands insist on ruining their watches by having dates.
The dial looks amazing, kinda like an alternative world egyptian theme lol, the second hand is also perfect, personally I couldn't care less about the accuracy but taking it to a watchmaker and setting it up should be very easy.
For the price off nearly $4000 Australian I expect a watch to be a lot more accurate than that not just have a nice dial for $1000 more you can buy a tutor Black Bay with in-house movement that is accurate
Nice watch. Nice review! I think you said it. Another Seiko with one or three unnecessary compromises and one or three QC issues. Aside from the dial and the 70 hour power reserve its a $399 quality watch. So please Mr Seiko get it right. So pretty though.
That dial is a stunner! I do think that helps negate some of those issues. I think the 19mm lug width is the biggest one for me. Did I mention that dial though??
i got mine in singapore last week , now running +6.3 sec per day (yes. indeed 6Rmovement is better) .heard the main agent of Seiko in Singapore got no more stock so Local ADs of Seiko in singapore cannot restock these.
I was just thinking it had a steampunk or sci-fi aesthetic when you said the end link gaps could be seen from space. Haha. Look better without the date though. Very pretty.
Typical of 6r15 or 6r35, i have always stated that a standart grade eta/sellita is more of a timekeeper than most mid-end Seiko. I suffered a similar problem in my 62MAS and Laurel, both were brand new watches. Seiko started to be overpriced for the specs. I hope Orient Star launches something alike with better price tag, OS line has much better tolerance when it comes to timekeeping.
Ah man, I miss that place. Lived there for four years.. Ayrton has always been huge there for watch advertising. Vending machines with coffee (hot in winter, cool in summer) rule.
Great review. I do like the face on this watch. The size is a bit too petite for my tastes. I do wish Seiko would realize that there is an expectation of near-flawless quality on a special edition watch. Especially at a higher price point. It used to be that you bought a Seiko to get the best quality at a very reasonable price. Not these days. Their brand identity is really taking a hit for this reason.
Beautiful watch, the only one of the range where the white background to the date actually looks ok. I think this should have been a dress presage, with 100m water resistance and slimmer case. I don't quite understand the prospex/presage hybrid styling. I nearly bought it, but still in two minds about it. The others in the range have great dials but that white date background looks odd on those, except maybe on the one with the cream dial. I love the gold and grey version, just wish the date background was dark too.
That is a very cool dial. I love it. Seiko really do know how to make a beautiful dial. I actually a Merkur Conqueror Seiko Laurel Alpinist homage which is pretty damn nice. It was a limited run a while back. Did you end up regulating it for him Jody?
Couldn’t live with that busy dial but the blue one with vertical lines looks really good. Might think about getting it as an explorer substitute because I’m poor 😟 Why oh why would they have printing on the back glass 🤪
I almost stopped at Ginza yesterday to pick this bad boy up! I am so blessed to live here but it huts my wallet having all these seikos and places around! Hahah! Great review!
Just received mine just a few minutes ago while watching this vid - perfect timing.🤗 Given the mass (or rather mess) of QC issues I had sworn complete abstinence from buying current Seiko releases but I just could not help myself with that dial. Now I am anxious to unbox and check for issues…😩
Fair play brother! I've been avoiding my ADs so I don't have to see any nice new ones in person! So how is it? Hopefully you got a banger! Enjoy the rest of your weekend brother and of course your new watch too!
Dust on the dial will be one of them unfortunately. As I have on mine. I have 2 other much cheaper Seiko’s and not a speck of dust on either of them! But they do have other issues as Seiko QC continues to rear it’s ugly head. Still, I remain fond of my Alpinist Ginza.
the blue cobblestone dial looks amazing.
And its colour play!
I think it's so much better than the cocktail dial from the other review. This is how it should be done. If you have a busy pattern you should have a subdued color. It reminds me of a black oxide that you would see on a blued firearm or a dark abalone.

Anyone else have this issue?
i like it, no one does dials like Seiko
I wondered when you'd get round to this one Jody. Mine's beautiful though the clasp sticking out is a bit of a niggle for me. Great on brown leather though.
I don't know where you're going to get this any cheaper Jody. Most places are sold out at the moment, but I've noticed used 'standard' ones going for around £400.
I feel bit disappointed with The watch accuracy though it was within the specs. Seiko used to have better QC even though the specs didn’t change since the first 6R15
Hi 👋 nice watch😀 love the dial!
Another review on point Jody, thanks! Just offering some feedback here: I get blank frames at the end of the review when you are referring to links to previous videos (this is the second time in a row). Just a lil' help with the channels QC 🤭
veramente meraviglioso !!!!
Lovely watch! It could also be called the Seiko ‘Stobswell’ as there are plenty of cobbles in my area of Dundee 🏴😂
Ha! If they ever run out of Tokyo references mate, I'm sure Dundee is next on their list......
This is quite a looker. Thanks Jody!
I have a presage version of this dial with the open heart and I get -0.94 seconds, to +0.32 depending on if worn or in the box.
oui papi
The pressage is a 4R movement-supposedly inferior but in reality much more reliable and generally accurate out of the box
How do you find the Presage? I’m looking to buy one soon, looks amazing, but many watch fanatics seem less keen.
@@paulb9453 beautiful in person. A date wouldn't be hated, I have a decent collection, and I used it as my go to for a few weeks, in the sun it's beautiful and stunning. Now I've moved onto SRPH78J as my go to presage when I can.
very nice watch... that accuracy for the price is not good.... for the price i would go hamilton or tissot cheers
Thank God it’s not another pagani
What a stunning watch! It's true, no one does dial like Seiko do. Not a fan of the printing on the case back I have to say.
Nice watch. Nice review! I think you said it. Another Seiko with one or three unnecessary compromises and one or three QC issues. Aside from the dial and the 70 hour power reserve its a $399 quality watch. So please Mr Seiko get it right. So pretty though.
Love the shirt, Jody!
i JUST bought this watch today
what a big coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do a review of the blue one❤😊
Nice dial. If they release a bright red version, they can call it a special limited spiderman edition watch.
"...answers on a post card, please." Very underrated line. LOLOLOLOL
Here we go ...Watch 10 Price 9 ..bloody gorgeous
That new intro is really ticking me off... seriously though!😂
This is the watch I immediately went "that's the one I want" for.
What a stunner!
Great shirt!🏎️
Ah man, I miss that place. Lived there for four years.. Ayrton has always been huge there for watch advertising. Vending machines with coffee (hot in winter, cool in summer) rule.
Is it better than the Sarb033 in your opinion?
Great review. I do like the face on this watch. The size is a bit too petite for my tastes. I do wish Seiko would realize that there is an expectation of near-flawless quality on a special edition watch. Especially at a higher price point. It used to be that you bought a Seiko to get the best quality at a very reasonable price. Not these days. Their brand identity is really taking a hit for this reason.
Usual Seiko awkward features, but that dial, WOW !
Seriously how does Seiko rise so far above just about everyone with the dials? Why aren't there more companies coming out with dials this good?
Great video but I need to know where you got that shirt
Simply beautiful
Couldn’t live with that busy dial but the blue one with vertical lines looks really good. Might think about getting it as an explorer substitute because I’m poor 😟
Why oh why would they have printing on the back glass 🤪
Wow! Just wow!
i was waiting for this review!
Hot watch !! No discount and sold out elsewhere
I almost stopped at Ginza yesterday to pick this bad boy up! I am so blessed to live here but it huts my wallet having all these seikos and places around! Hahah! Great review!
Wouldn't have imagined this would have a screw down crown. Gorgeous dial though!
Just received mine just a few minutes ago while watching this vid - perfect timing.🤗
Given the mass (or rather mess) of QC issues I had sworn complete abstinence from buying current Seiko releases but I just could not help myself with that dial.
Very impressive dial!
Thanks mate...just what I need,another amazing seiko dial,really wish I hadn't seen this one.obviously I will have to buy it now.lol
Jody, what do you think of that bracelet comfortability wise? A milled clasp is always a plus. Would love to see it on a strap!
Seiko's beancounters outrank their design and quality control departments.
Long live the yen 💴
Agreed, this is very poor value at the prices they are charging. Plenty of better quality alternatives out there.
