I highly, highly recommend the book “Goodbye Things” by Fumio Sasaki. The author dealt more with inferiority issues than anxiety, but he talks about us humans being social animals. We were never meant to be alone, so we try so hard to appeal to the crowd our worth through our possessions.
For example, Fumio had lots of books, just so he could be seen as someone intellectual.
You have lots of bright, happy, fun, playful things. Maybe growing up, you felt the need to assure your family how happy you were???? Does that play any part in suppressing loneliness?
I’m no therapist, so I could be totally off, but I just thought of that book and wanted to recommend it to you😊 You’ve heard the term “the silent to do list”, right? He came up with that☺️ In that book he has many practical decluttering tips too!

Its common to have feelings of loneliness when you are nuero divergent (adhd, autism, etc) and specifically when you don't know anyone else like you. Some people consider a symptom but its practically just from the environment. I remember multiple times as a child wanting to go home while sitting in my bedroom. I cant remember all the fancy terms but its something to do with how comfort happens. Someone asks for help expecting solutions but only gets comfort instead or vice versa. The mismatch in our brains makes us think we are only one like us and then we feel alone. Luckily the internet is here now and we find people like us very easily!

Isn’t it such a sad irony that hoarding was doing the opposite of letting people in; space opening up is allowing others and experiences in! Well done for reflecting, this will be powerful in your recovery!!

That's a major light bulb moment!! I think part of minimalism is clearing the outer world, so we can better deal with our inner world (thoughts, memories, past trauma). Holding on to stuff helps to distract us from dealing with the inner stuff, which is something I hadn't thought about before! Light bulbs going on all over the place! 💡 💡 💡 💡 💡👍🥰😊🤗

I have an afghan my grandma made for me, and I always kept it packed away to keep it safe. After she passed though, I washed it and now keep it in the living room to snuggle with and I love it so much more. She wouldn't have wanted me to hide it away! Great job on this section!! 🦄

Have you ever explored the concept of kintsugi? It’s the Japanese art of repairing broken things -often ceramics -with silver or gold. The idea is that the repairs actually make something stronger than it was before it broke. I spent much time in therapy trying to “recover” from past trauma, and understanding how my cracks and breaks make me stronger was so meaningful. Actually allows me to be more loving, patient and gentle with myself!
Thank you for being open and vulnerable with us on your channel!! You are such a bright light!

Abandonment doesn't have to be so straightforward. It can be someone abandoning you by passing away. Someone not recognizing your mental or physical needs. Someone withdrawing because of mental health issues. Even you abandoning yourself by not being true to yourself.
Being alone and 'outside' of an inner group has sadly been a recurring theme in my life. I found it helps focusing on places where I do belong. Like you do by thinking about your RUclips family here!
I hope you can get to the root of it all. You are still making amazing progrese!

Getting rid of an old laptop that isn't working. It has died. It is still looking brand new though. It needs to go. For me, it is just hard to let go of past seasons of life. A loved ones belongings, things from when the kids were small, and memories. Been letting go slowly of those things that are not useful and taking up space. Want our house more manageable and ready to move if need be. Decluttering something daily even if it is just paper no longer needed. Little steps, but good progress.

My friend spoke about having a mindset of scarcity rather than abundance, and needing to change that mindset. I have found it very helpful in letting go of things I might otherwise hold onto. Instead of thinking what if I will need an item I am not using in the future; I am thinking I have more than enough items, I dont need the extra I am not using now. Great job!

my dear miss heart, I am going through your videos catching up because I am back to working on my own hoard, yet again...I can relate with the loneliness, maybe with a different twist, I realised one of the many times that I had managed to clear my space, that I felt extremely more lonely, even though I hate my hoard and it gives me great pain, adds to my depression and exhaustion...I am working through these emotions while I let go, it is the most important part of decluttering...Love and Light 💚

I love sewing how far you've come in your decluttering journey! It helps me SO much when I'm feeling those strong emotions to my own things. I just decluttered some notebooks I kept from almost 10 years ago now that I used when I was first teaching. They felt super sentimental to me because I LOVED that group of kiddos and that school district, but I was finally able to see if for what it was... a used notebook with nothing actually sentimental in it.
Also, we had a cat JUST like your Pepper girl. Her name was Nala and I miss her every day! So I love seeing your precious kitty! 😍❤️

I was always surrounded by people too all the time, I did have my dad die when I was young, but I get the abandonment/loneliness fear. Looking back I did a lot of stuff independently when I went to college, but despite that it was only until I was out of a long-term relationship & starting to deal with real depression did I have to confront those feelings of being by myself or lonely. There is a quote "Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self". To find contentment when we do become "alone" w/ourselves is I feel the key to inner peace & is part of having your cup full; when it's anything less you feel that toxic lacking mentality, anxiety, or seeking from others. I feel being able to fill your life with healthy things that bring you joy, self-soothe, and actually celebrating yourself alone is something we don't give ourselves enough of & is part of personal development. W/that said I still feel joy & filled up going on trips with people vs. just myself, but at least if I were to be alone I could find enjoyment and peace w/o feeling alone. Idk why I went on this whole thing, but just wanted to say fear of being lonely is valid no matter if you had all the company in the world. Anyways you're doing great facing your fears & so glad to see your progress and work!

I think you did a great job. Even though some of these videos is mostly just paper and boxes it's still an important step in your process. Think of how much safer you're making your home by getting rid of all that fire starter! Good job! Have you and hubby talked about why he is a hoarder as well? Does he struggle with the same fears of loneliness from his childhood and that's why he hangs on to so much stuff as well? I like how you talk about blessing another mama with the baby clothes. I think you're right. That stuff does no good sitting in a basement but it could really bless someone else especially when times are as tough as they are now. You are an inspiration. Keep going! I love when you have a new video out. I watch it right away. 😁

The brain works in mysterious ways. The fear of loneliness might even be coded due to something that your teacher or close elderly figure said/did. Even if it was like during a game of hide and seek. You just have to try to identify all if those codes that do not serve you anymore. The subconscious is like a child. Even if you know that something is silly, your subconscious might still try to hold on to it. You are doing so great at identifying those thoughts/fears now. I truly believe that you are ready to tackle more sentimental stuff you keep in your basement 🥹 love your videos💜 can’t wait to watch your progress!

Okay, so, maybe you've already thought of this, but I noticed it before and now that you mentioned that lonelines is part of the reason you hoard. There are things going out of the house and animals are coming in. First the guineapigs and now miss Pepper, maybe they are a new way of soothing that fear since they keep you company. I hope that made sense.

This was such a great video, Miss Heart! What a fascinating insight that loneliness is at the core of your hoarding. I would imagine being bullied as a child would definitely either deepen or create (depending on the person) that fear. I wonder if even buying certain things ie. stuffed animals, dolls or figurines would be part of that. Would we not want to leave something cute and appealing alone on the shelf? Just blown away by your insight. I never heard anyone point that out before and it seems there is so much truth in that discovery. Bravo for your deeper dive! I've been watching you since your vey first episode and am continually amazed at your progress. I think you'r e wonderful.

Highly recommend the book: adult children of emotionally immature parents - you may not have had issues with your parents but a lot of the emotions you describe are talked about in the book. Also a sense of loneliness is talked about a lot in the book. It was mentioned to me by my therapist when I talked about feeling alone as a child and into adulthood. It normalizes that feeling and explains how to work on the issues surrounding that feeling. Once I realized that feeling wasn’t my fault and I’m not the only one who feels that way, it really improved my life. :)

I'm feeling the samme of afraid to be alone and I'm afraid of feeling lonely. I know I never was abandon either but my mom locked her self out when I was a baby so the police had to come and break in the door. Because I was in the crib hungry and the stove was one. Otherwise the locksmith hade have to come. So I always thought that was one of the reasons for my afraid of being alone. But mabye I was born with it like you are. I have ADHD ADD and autism and I live in Sweden. Bye the way I love your videos and always watch them as soon as I can. Tanks for being a role model. XOXO

I think that somehow hoarding and ADHD may be connected because of the impulsive nature of both. But, let's focus on the most important thing here. You get to disengage from being connected to things that you do not need. That is so essentail and brave, I cannot help but mention it.

You are never alone but specifically you Miss heart will always have tons of supporters you will never meet who love you and want you to succeed. I am one! I hope you can learn to conquer your fear of being alone because you are greatly loved.

Ms Heart you are really making progress this year, congratulations. Hopefully you’ll get the centre part cleared out soon because that would make a much bigger area for your children to play whilst they still enjoy their toys. Remember, sooner than you think, they’ll reach their mid-teens and no doubt by then they’ll want a hang out den for watching football or playing computer games with their mates and not a children’s playroom setup.

I can't wait to watch your next video's about this subject. I wonder why I can't let go that easily. My memories are my sanctuary. I can't let go of cards, letters and what not. I personalize everything. If I am ready to let go I need to feel it and see it first. Consume it sort of. I came far but need healing and need to throw yet so much away. I hope it gets easier. Fear, lonelyness, anxiety it's a lot to deal with. I love your video's. It helps that I can find the strength. I also think of my kids. If I am not here I don't want them to be left with my stuff.

I am watching you videos since you appeared first time on RUclips and I admire you. I can relate so much with your feeling, your digging deep into your emotions. Somehow it makes me feel stronger when I hear what I really feel from someone else´s mouth from some else on the other side of the world feels and is brave enough to share with others. You are not alone! We are not alone! You have your beautiful family, people who like you as you are, with or without the stuff you own or not. Just wanted to let you know, you are making wonders you don´t even realize :)

Love watching your videos, just wanted to let you know your method helped me recently, after a family holiday trying to unpack, get everything washed and put away in a short space of time was overwhelming me so looked at it all and started with the easiest/biggest thing first...beach towels, put them away and it got the momentum going so thank you . I'm not a hoarder but like most people have too much stuff in my house, especially the loft 😱so your videos help me to slowly pare things down. Keep going your basement will be done before you know it 💕
