Yes. When Korea was in harsh time in 1970. President made new law to make doctors and researchers come back and stay in korea. For earning the money and contributing to the society.
i have jams for sure Way more then half don't go back. Just ask pretty much everyone in the Americas, and all the immigrants around the world. Argentina (immigration to it) was the country with the biggest return rate and even there it was less than 30%.
yeah ppl will usually return if they become successful but for someone who is dirt poor, this takes generations and the next generation may forget its roots
Sam was being realistic. But I think what's different from his upbringing versus most of the men on this panel, is nationalism. If you were born with the silver spoon in your mouth, you can afford to care about what flag you wear. But the reality is, financial situation is hard for most people, and those who move to escape financial crises shouldn't be looked down upon for abandoning their country. They're just one person in an ocean of people. The entire world would be served better if they just helped themselves, and went somewhere they could be productive and live a decent live.
most people who leave poor countries are the ones who have the money, education, and ability to do so. They could be a catalyst for great change in their country if they stayed but do not, so their country and it's people lose a lot by them leaving.
Agree to all of that, except the last statement. Most people don't have the money, means, connections, or education to leave their home countries in hope of something better. And they are the ones who need the most help, and rely on foreigners and returnees to improve education and economy in their countries.
Choa South God Queen alooot of people who leave their country aren't rich tho, thats exactly why they immigrated. Look at the immigrants in the us and europe. But many do come back or at least make their country known to the outside
@@devvv4616 "alooot of people who leave their country aren't rich tho". this is true historically. there are numerous examples but since we're watching korean program, let's look at history of korean migration to the US. the modern wave of immigrants from s. korea started after the Immigration Act of 1965 where various restrictions on immigration was lifted by the US. vast majority were poor economic refugees as at that time, s. korea was a poor under-developed country under military rule. economic elites weren't the ones leaving the country.
Sam from Ghana sees the reality. There are people who leaves the country to start a new life and then never comes back. Like they are already used to the steady life outside the country that they do not want to go back.
I love how when Sam said 'Why?' at 1:50 they made a joke out of it. The rhetorical question was a good way to get his point across, but they just had to emphasize how abrupt it made his speech/argument. XD But yeah, Sam's viewpoint is realistic - most people won't come back. But, if you have a deep sense of nationalism you will.
Zhang Yuan accent is really chinese, I can't believe I just noticed, but the end of his sentences sound like he is speaking in chinese. That is so cool...
Sam is right. I saw it with my parents generation. 700,000 left and never went back because of the financial and political upheaval. Now their children, and grandchildren, and even great grandchildren are no longer citizens of my parents country.
Charlotte Nixon what do you want to say with your comment? i think i got i wrong because people in the 21 century cant be this closeminded but if i got it right then i think it is one of the most stupid comment i've ever seen.
no Sam is definitely right here. I know that if I leave my country I wouldn't want to come back, just because my country is not well off at all and it's hard to live a good life here, definitely not as good a life as I would have in so many other countries.
For Greece Andreas was right. Like sooooo many people leave the country, but almost the half goes for further education or taking extra exams or things like these. Even if they got themselves a job I think that they want to come back after this.
This is the first time I heard Sam speak since like episode 10, so sad that they never really give him a chance or when they do they just make fun of him
This is a Korean ye-neug, it's meant to be more of making fun of each other rather than actual.. you know... discussing? It's not like they're making fun of Sam in particular, it's just that in ye-neugs, content is delivered in laughter, jokes, and making fun of each other. You get used to it, really.
In the early ages of America's upcoming when settlers found gold in the west and everyone started flocking to the new land, many immigrants left their countries, looking for opportunities in America. Many immigrants from China came in the hopes of making money and then returning to their country, like Zhang's idea. However, Sam was right, the reality was different and they found more opportunity in western America so many stayed or told their families to come to the new country.
I do agree with Sam, because it's the same thing in India. Although the population continues to grow there, most who leave to live in other countries don't come back. Although Yuan might have been referring to people who are contracted to work in other countries. These people don't necessarily need to leave their home country.
What Sam said is so true. Our countru suffers from brain drain and a lot of educated people are not coming back because we don't have enough facilities here.
Lol the “I don’t think you are” response to Sam saying he is Ghanaian is so wrong.. what right do they have to say that?? Have they even seen another Ghanaian person other than Sam??
they often joke about that because sam has a way with words and everything that is really uniquely korean and the hosts always jokingly asking if he's sure he isn't korean
I agree with Sam. During a financial crisis of course people would wander over to countries with more stable economies. And stable economies generally means more security. Seeing this many immigrants stay thinking that it would be best for their children to grow up in this type of environment
The guy from Ghana has lived it, as he’s from a third world country, most people that leave do not come back unless it is for family related occasions and that’s a fact.
very similar to a brain drain going on in India right now, where people would become so well educated, but leave the country for success elsewhere. sad, but unfortunately commonplace :(
It is just that everyone wants better opportunities regardless of their national identities. Sadly, the west remains more developed and is better at exploiting their talents so of course, they would leave. Nationalism does not come before oneself nowadays.
The guy from Ghana (Sam i think is his name, correct me if I'm wrong) is telling the true many people from Mexico, and Central America emigrate to the U.S. and believe me they don't wanna go back due to violence and poverty in their countries...the benefits in this country outweighs what their countries can offer e.g. free education (all the way to undergraduates degree), medicaid, free lunch at schools, basically many free resources if you don't make enough money and you have kids under the age of 18. I don't think patriotism has anything to do with returning, my parents emigrated to the U.S. and let me tell you they have not looked back ever since...they still kept their customs and instilled their culture onto us (my siblings and I) but wanting to return back to live in their home country is not really something they want to do nowadays.
Are there any members of the show who come from Southeast Asia? Because if we talk about labor migration... Southeast Asian people migrate everywhere for money... and indeed many do not come back and instead they just take their family with them
I love how Zhang uses logic and I hate how they all start attacking him all of a sudden. Ok we know SK and Japan are together against China but that doesn't mean you have to show it on a TV show.
They probably started attacking him because they know it's not realistic. I'm sorry but most people won't go back to China once they leave, it's just not what people will do. If you were living in a financial crisis, left to a wealthy country where you had a nice job and a house and food, you wouldn't want to go back. Sam and the others were being realistic, especially knowing that some of the members there like Andreas have been in similar situations.
What Sam said is true. There are people who leave their countries with hopes of returning to it when the issues have resolved. However a lot of the times, they have to struggle to build up their life all over again in their new country and sometimes they make just enough for them to live happily but not enough savings to buy the really expensive flight tickets to fly back home and re-start their lives in their home country.
Is this show still going? This is such a great show, maybe you should do some adjustment to make it better, like bring YJS as an MC haha I think he would know how to treat the casts better to let them speak more comfortably
Can someone pretty please tell me where I can watch this show at? This seems like a really good show and I think it's good hearing about views of people from different countries. :)
While it’s true that most people won’t come back, but they can still send money home and contribute to the country’s economic development. Take a look at Vietnam. The economic condition after the war was horrible. A lot of families were starving, but those who left the country worked and sent money back home to provide for their families... that’s why Vietnam’s economy improved.
the legend they hate each other because of the history, Japan is more “American”, capitalism and Chinese is socialism, which leads to several war in the past until now.

I agree with Yuan... because our family is one of the example... Yes, my grandparents from Fujian China. They left China due to financial crisis during the war...and earned a living in Indonesia. After he could earn some he would definitely sent a bit money back to his hometown in Fujian for his younger brother or sister. My father was born in Indonesia. He also gave some contribution back to China but yeah... we only can give help materially like build a school in the countryside... fix the road and bridge...I know it’s only a very small contribution, but still it doesn’t mean we forget our root... where do we come from... Now, I am the third generation...although most of the Chinese citizen won’t agree that I am Chinese. But still I believe I have the duty to continue on giving back to at least the hometown back in Fujian. I am just a normal office worker, but still I can send a bit contribution back to Fujian to build a temple, help out those needed... I think it really depends on each person... not all Chinese that left China due to crisis won’t go back to China or give contribution back to their home country.
Sad but true, Sam from Ghana sees the things correctly. Half or more of the people who leave their country will never come back.
