In this art supplies haul I'll share some new materials I've purchased over the past few weeks from Jackson's, Cult Pens, and Pith Supply. This haul includes coloured pencils, watercolour markers, gouache, acrylic gouache, Neocolor 2, and some exciting new sketchbooks that I can't wait to work in!
I have a couple of Neocolor 2 crayon/pen-thingies from the '90s, we used to get those as school supplies! I can´t believe we had such quality supplies for free! I live in Finland.
Thank You so much for sharing Natasha! I absolutely love hearing you talk and listening to your lovely accent! I think this orange colors would look amazing with deep Indigo and a rich Sepia color!

I get so excited when you get new supplies and I can’t wait to see you swatch your new supplies I definitely like the look of the Faber castell watercolour markers, the Caran D’ache neocolours and the sketchbooks. I love your excitement when you get new supplies, I don’t know how you wait to open them up for the camera, I would be too excited to see everything. I love your choices of colours in your art 🖼. Look forward to seeing your next videos. Take care Natasha and stay well. Lots of love.
Ah, thanks Louise! That's really lovely of you. :) I do get rather excited, ha ha! I start thinking of the all the possibilities...all the different artwork I can make with them. I do open the boxes beforehand, just to check that everything has arrived intact and my order is all there, but I don't use them! I put them aside in a corner of the studio until I have a chance to film the video. I'm really excited now though, because I can use them! ;) You take care too and have a good weekend! xx

@@danieljamesbinderystu2968 that sounds absolutely terrifying. I am glad you were able to get to safety in time, Jesus imagine if you had gotten caught up out there in the midst of all that. We kept getting the tornado in your area “take shelter NOW” warnings. We spent the better part of 2 hours in our basement while it slowly filled up with water. Ooh , what lovely supplies Natasha! I’m looking forward to seeing you swatch them all out. As for the sketchbooks -they look gorgeous!… Terrifyingly large, but gorgeous!! 🤣😊💜
So glad you finally got high speed broadband yay!!!! and hats off to Dominic for working so hard to dig the trench!. and always lovely to have another art haul video!! It's so geat to see you trying all these new art materials and also trying new colours too,it feels like we are going along on this journey with you.I am the same as you in a self imposed watercolour buying ban!!.. I love the pitt albrect durer watercolour makers and have a full set of these,so great with colour pencils and other mediums, you will love working with these I'm sure. I am trying Talens ecoline watercolour pens, I've had a set of these for ages and never used them, but after seeing Melanie Chadwick using them in a recent video I have decided to start using them and love them so far. You should try the Lyra Rembrandnt Dark Dark Sepia Oil pencil and the Lyra Rembrandt Light Sepia Oil pencil, these have both been a staple of mine for some time the two sepias are so lovely to work with and layer beautifully. I have a full set of the Lightfast pencils and the Luminance pencils, you can never have enough pencils!!.I'm looking forward to seeing how all these new colours and mediums appear in your work, but it makes me hapy to see all these new directions you are taking in your work and on your creative path.Again thanks to Melanie I bought a set of 48 Lyra aquacolour crayons, and I love using these, both wet and dry, they are realy affordable, but the slight downside is they arn't avilable open stock, so will have to replace them with neocolour II crayons. I love the retro tin you found for the crayons,it is upcycling in a great way!!. I make my own sketchbooks now from scratch and have done for a while now,but I love an A3 size, it does encourage you to really be bold and play and experiment I hope you'll enjoy working in that size, and you got the Moleskin at a real bargin price!!! The pith sketchbooks look amazing and I love that they come with a pack of seeds and love the idea of planting a desk meadow!! and the ethos behind them sounds good too and their price is really good too, It would be really great to have a video just about all the different sketchbooks you love and work with. (matt) P.s, It's so lovely to hear you talking about all these new colours and mediums you are trying and adding to your cache, the excitement you are feeling inspired by is so nice to hear and it will be great to see how your amazing work changes and evolves on this new creative journey. And I love the idea of the bright lime green Neocolour II crayon being your creative wild card!!! that made me chuckle a little.
Hello all! Thankyou Natasha, for sharing. News for those of you in Canada: Delta Art of Edmonton, Alberta Canada is having a sale on the Arches Watercolour papers. Roughly 50% off. As of September 3, 2021. Best wishes to one and all.
Amaaaaazing so excited for you guys!!! Just wanted to say so happy to hear that you have hi-speed broadband!!! Yay! What a difference that will make to you! Xx well done Dominic on digging that trench.
I know!!! I actually can't believe it. This video took about 20 minutes or so to upload at 1080p. If I'd uploaded this on our old connection, it would probably have taken about 12+ hours at 720p. The difference is amazing! I can also watch RUclips videos in HD now! Previously, they often would only play at 480p, or 720p if we were really lucky! xx
Thanks Mel 😊 It’s such a relief to finally have it all set up! I can’t decide which I’m more happy about; the fast broadband, or the fact that I don’t have to worry about installing it anymore! 😆 It really is going to make such a difference! 🎉
Ooh! I've been curious about Turner's Acrylic gouache too, can't wait to see what you think! What an amazing haul, especially the pithsupply sketchbooks (book lust....) Looking forward to Swatching Time xx
I love the Turner Acryl Gouache. I bought a set because the Holbein was sold out everywhere, and they're lovely. They dry fast, but the consistency and color blending are excellent. I've been eyeing the Japanesque line for quite a while but as I don't use my gouache too often, I can't bring myself to buy a whole second set, haha. I will say, the white just evaporated. I didn't necessarily want a 250ml pouch to replace the small tube that came with the set but considering i basically used it all up between two paintings in my sketchbook, I think I will probably need it. Maybe I got a light tube in the set or just use a lot of white, but it's something to keep in mind.
I love my turner gouache too...I've been using both kinds for about 3 years now. I've wondered about the japanesque ones too..I recently saw a review on them and they have a bit of a texture bc of some additive. I keep pondering if it's like chalk paint but grittier? As for the white...yes when using gouache it's best to invest in gobs of white. As you will get a lot of mileage out of the white alongside mixing with your favorite colors.
Gorgeous haul! Really love that vintage tin. So true about Jacksons. I've been waiting for their own-brand drawing ink to come back in stock for EVER. One day!
The tealquoise from Maimeri Blu is the most vibrant I've ever seen. Their whole range is single pigment, and they have some pretty rare pigments in there. They do smell a bit weird straight from the tube though, but it dissipates as they dry down.
I waited so long for the W&N orange lake deep to go back in stock here and I looove it. It dries so beautifully even and bright, it's a great mixing color as well and it's easily toned down if you want a more muted but still saturated orange. Hope you have fun with it!
Great haul video as always. I'm really trying not to buy any art supplies at the moment so this video is a massive temptation! I use the Turner Acryl Gouache and find them interesting to use. I have to keep reminding myself to water them down enough though. Like some others have mentioned, I really would like to try the Japanesque colours as they are supposed to be more textured. Can't wait to see all these lovely supplies swatched out. Kudos to Dominic for putting in all the hard work to get your high-speed broadband. Looking forward to joining your Patreon when it launches :)
I bought the Ocean Grey (gorgeous!) after your last video and Jackson's put a Maimeri Blue dot card with it - their Payne's Grey is a beautifully bluey one (the one I already had was a straight grey) and is just fabulous.
It will be interesting to see how you like the Schmincke Horadam gouache and how it compares to other brands. They also offer a designer gouache, which is probably similar to the Winsor & Newton designer gouache, while I guess the Horadam gouache is more like their watercolour, but opaque.
For watercolor to work really well on hot pressed, if its 140lb, it just needs to soak for 5 minutes in clean water to remove the excess sizing. When stretched and dried, its still smooth but will feel more like eggshell. Its the perfect surface for me to work on for watercolor. This way the pigment soaks deep into the inner layers of the paper and layers colors for a long time making the richest depth in value & hue. I learned this personally from a Master Artist, Susan Harrison-Tustain from New Zealand.
Oh no a watercolour ban.... maybe we could help you with a purchase for more storage? I love your watercolour swatching vids and have picked up some wonderful colours that your have shown us. I would be very keen to see a video on your papers as well as your sketch books, perhaps using example in watercolour techniques . I also go back to Arches for watercolour and know 100 % cotton holds up best to layering and lifting but would love to know if there would be others equally as good. I have not had any sucess with any wood pulp based papers and note that Jacksons own watercolour blocks are wood based so not so good for watercolour which is a pity. Maybe others here might know of a reasonably priced paper / sketchbook?
@@NatashaNewtonArt I found this amazing UK artist who is a botanical illustrator working in watercolour. In the video linked she compares papers and I thought you might be interested. ruclips.net/video/g0HWU_TTeFs/видео.html
Can't take my eyes from those watercolor marker colors. I've had the Albrecht Durer pencil set in my whishlist for 6 million years. I'd be curious to see how they compare. I've only just started using watercolor pencils. I picked up the Derwent set of 36 and I enjoy them. Not as much as I love the Inktense, but still very nice. I'm going to order some. That Sanguine marker for sure. I've gone and twisted my own arm. Oh and the Tombow mono eraser is a supply I cannot live without! I have spares tucked away in case the cats finally manage to assassinate one.
As always - I've loved this haul! The pith sketchbooks look stunning and practical, and I immediately want to buy one, but the international shipping probably sucks - my poor wallet. I hope they somewhat take watercolors. Can't wait for the swatching video and a sketchbook testing and review =)
The fastest residential broadband in the UK is from Virgin Media. There are some smaller companies that offer faster lines to very small pockets of the region but they're very expensive compared to Virgin and obviously very limited with their availability.
It's just BT! It's their fibre optic broadband. You'll probably have to badger them for two years, they'll give you numerous dates when they say they'll turn up and then they won't, but finally you'll get your super fast broadband! 😂
aaaah! so happy for a video. I swatched my free Maimuru Blu card today! I loved the turquiose and the Orange its really vivid. I think you'll like that one! Quinacradone lake is divine too. Take care !
Thank you for this beautiful video. I tried to get some of the pith sketchbooks, unfortunately, they don't ship to the USA. I will keep an eye on them. Their philosophy is a beautiful one “We plant, you plant. You got a new follower on me. ❤️
Thank you! Hopefully Pith will eventually ship internationally. They're a very new company so I imagine they're keeping it 'UK only' whilst they become established.
I dont't even have time to receive the things I ordered after your last haul before you post another haul haha! I will just live vicariously through you because I have too many supplies.
I'm slowing down on the art materials buying too now, as well! There are only so many supplies that one person can use! 😆 I'm going to be making 'favourites' videos and swatching the supplies I already have, as there is still so much I haven't shared in full (particularly my acrylic paints!).
Oh I'm so excited to see your opinion on the Turners acrylic Gouache! I have some myself and i always did wonder how it held up to the other brand you mentioned, Because i've rather enjoyed using it myself. I've had to put myself on a sketchbook buying ban till i filled up my own but ohhhh those pith ones look so good! I look forward to the swatching video :) Also congrats on your internet upgrade!
I bought a large “haul” of Turner AcrylGouache about 3 years ago. I really wanted to dive in to all the yummy colors, except for one really nasty habit that happened far too often. When I opened a tube, without warning, this thick clear “stuff” (binder?) just oozed and oozed out, pretty much ruining the rest of the pigmented color in the tube. The very worst was with gold, silver and other metallic colors that could no longer be worked with so discarded. This separation is quite prevalent with many colors across the whole line. I hope Turner has reformulated these paints to behave better.
One thing to consider is that they put their acryl gouache and traditional gouache in plastic tubes thus aiding in the redistribution of the binder within the pigment if ones simply moves it gently around by kneeding. I've personally never had this problem with any of their product line. I've tried their watercolors, and both types of gouache to great success. I'm wondering if climate and altitude play a part in the seperation? Truly curious.
Congrats. with your speed broadband! Now your life begins for real :).... By the way thank you so much for all your videos. So inspiring and have both taught me and introduced to new art supplies. It is also so exciting to see how you are developing. :) One question: Can you recommend a good sharpener for the Derwent drawing pencils? The ones I have are either to narrow or to wide. Thank you.
Thank you, Vaka! 🧡 I use a few sharpeners, but I really like my heavy brass KUM sharpener - it has two holes and fits every pencil I own apart from a super chunky one!
I'll be interested to hear what you think about the cadmium yellow W&N gouache. I recently bought a tube of cadmium lemon yellow I think it was, and it smelled SO STRONGLY of cleaning solvent, something like pinesol, or floor cleaner? It also needed to be mixed quite a lot in the tube before I could use it. I ended up getting a tube of M Graham to use instead.
Hi Sarah! I've given it a sniff and it smells likes some of the other colours of their gouache (in particular the Permanent White - every tube I've had has this smell!). It doesn't really bother me as it doesn't smell when dry - not that I've noticed anyway! It hasn't separated so doesn't need to be mixed before use.
OK, this is just creepy! I literally just opened my new Pith sketchbook the other day 😱 I got the Tangelo, been experimenting with inks and markers, and boy they can handle a lot! Loving it so far
@@NatashaNewtonArt markers bleed through, but otherwise it handles a lot of stuff. I love their sustainable initiatives and the fact that it's "local" and such high quality. 💜
I really love Schmincke's Delft Blue watercolor. I earlier got the small tube to test and when I was sure it's as beautiful as it looks on videos I got the big one as well. It's either my favorite or second favorite PB60. I really like the White Nights' Indanthrone Blue but they announced that they are changing the pigment supplier or something similar and the color will be different in the future so I'm glad I found Schmincke's equally or even more beautiful version of PB60. I want to try M. Graham's version in the future. Didn't you get it earlier this summer?
Hey there, love the videos 🙂 they help me relax. I’m curious if you’re using a particular medium for piece of art do you use different brands mixed together? For example painting a watercolour piece using a couple of different watercolour brands. Sorry if that’s a random question.
Thanks Rebecca! I do use several brands mixed together and there has never been a problem. You'll find that most artists will have a mix of brands in their palette, as we may prefer a certain colour from one brand, and a different colour from another etc. Not a random question at all - it's what I would have wanted to know a few years back too! :)
Congrats on the internet 🙌🏻 We just got government funding approval to get high speed internet here in the sticks as well, because BT can’t be bothered 🤣 Sending 💖
Hey Natasha, how are you finding the sketchbooks 6 months on now? I bought a Moleskin recently and the paper seemed to almost repel the water. I've heard that Moleskin changed supplier a while back and that has impacted their quality. I've been using an Etchr sketchbook and am super happy with it, but was wondering how your sketchbooks from Pith Supply are performing?
I absolutely love the Pith sketchbooks in general! The only thing I don't like about them is that you can't use a lot of water on the paper because it pills a bit. But they're excellent for dry media, mixed media, and for acrylic gouache.
Omg I WAS GOING TO GET THE A3 moleskine too hahahah it's on sale on Amazon but I was too worried it's way too big because I tend to enjoy A5. What are you planning to do in that A3 sketchbook?
Haha yeah I went from an A5 to an A3 sketchbook~ I discovered I actually really like it cos even tho I sketch pretty small it means I can do a lot of drawings on a single page which I personally like. It means I can really explore an idea on one page. Initially I started the A3 just as a figure study sketchbook but now it's just my main one. It does mean I can't carry it around as easily tho :((
@@georgecooper9766 oooooo thanks for that!! I've got it on my amazon list and it's currently cheaper than the A4 size (I'm in Australia everything IS SO EXPENSIVE)

(matt)
P.s, It's so lovely to hear you talking about all these new colours and mediums you are trying and adding to your cache, the excitement you are feeling inspired by is so nice to hear and it will be great to see how your amazing work changes and evolves on this new creative journey. And I love the idea of the bright lime green Neocolour II crayon being your creative wild card!!! that made me chuckle a little.
What an exciting art haul I'm excited and inspired for you🐽🤗
Ah, thanks so much Deborah! 😊 x
Hello all! Thankyou Natasha, for sharing. News for those of you in Canada: Delta Art of Edmonton, Alberta Canada is having a sale on the Arches Watercolour papers. Roughly 50% off. As of September 3, 2021. Best wishes to one and all.
Congrats on getting high-speed internet! XD
I'd love to see how you store your supplies! (And how you'll use these, eventually :) )
It really is going to make such a difference! 🎉
that sketchbook is so nice, i can't wait to see the swatches next time ☺️
Ooh! I've been curious about Turner's Acrylic gouache too, can't wait to see what you think! What an amazing haul, especially the pithsupply sketchbooks (book lust....) Looking forward to Swatching Time xx
Those sketchbooks are ***drool***. So beautiful and the quality is amazing! xx
I love my turner gouache in both traditional and acryl! I play with the traditional almost daily in my sketchbook.
Oh oh how on earth did I not get notified! 😅 Looking forward!! 🧡 And I can see W&N gouache tubes!! 🧡
I'm obsessed with gouache recently!
Ooh, I look forward to trying it!
Cant wait to see your swatches!
Oh my word those sketchbooks are absolutely stunning!!!!!! I will be checking them out. Love the haul. X
Thanks Sarah! x
Love the look of those Pith books Natasha ... I'm going to hop over there for a looksy 😉 xx
They're such good quality! The paper feels lovely. :) x
One day!
Some items seem to take months to come back in stock! I'm waiting for some paint that has an estimated date of January 2022 next to the listing!
@@NatashaNewtonArt Wow! :O That's almost impressive.
The tealquoise from Maimeri Blu is the most vibrant I've ever seen. Their whole range is single pigment, and they have some pretty rare pigments in there. They do smell a bit weird straight from the tube though, but it dissipates as they dry down.
That's really interesting to know, thank you! I look forward to trying them. :)
i really love vintage eberything
I waited so long for the W&N orange lake deep to go back in stock here and I looove it. It dries so beautifully even and bright, it's a great mixing color as well and it's easily toned down if you want a more muted but still saturated orange. Hope you have fun with it!
This is good to know and exactly what I wanted! I'm filming the swatching this afternoon so I'll be using it for the first time then. :)
Thank you, Nikki! 🧡
I bought the Ocean Grey (gorgeous!) after your last video and Jackson's put a Maimeri Blue dot card with it - their Payne's Grey is a beautifully bluey one (the one I already had was a straight grey) and is just fabulous.
Ooh, I look forward to trying it!
It will be interesting to see how you like the Schmincke Horadam gouache and how it compares to other brands. They also offer a designer gouache, which is probably similar to the Winsor & Newton designer gouache, while I guess the Horadam gouache is more like their watercolour, but opaque.
I really love Schmincke's watercolour so I have high hopes. :)
Great tip! Thank you.
I’ve had one of those huge moleskin notebooks on my wishlist too……
same...I keep saying they'd be perfect for landscapes
i think i told you i am enamored with vintage tins and i'm using g thwm for my watercolors too lol
I would love to see you use the neocolor 2’s in an artwork. I have some but rarely use them 😂
I will definitely be showing how I use them! I love them for mark making and layering, mixing them with other materials.
Always love the haul videos.
So glad you like them! Thanks. :)
I'll try to cover different papers in a video soon! I have a few favourites.
@@NatashaNewtonArt I found this amazing UK artist who is a botanical illustrator working in watercolour. In the video linked she compares papers and I thought you might be interested. ruclips.net/video/g0HWU_TTeFs/видео.html
@@jam4441 Thank you! I'll go and watch this now. :)
I'm loving the watercolour markers, they're so much fun to work with! Ha ha, cats and art supplies - I've been there and dealt with that myself!
I have a motorized mini rubber which I used for the same thing as the tombo one
Oh man, I love the idea of Pith and what they're doing, but sadly they don't ship outside of Europe :(
As always - I've loved this haul!
The pith sketchbooks look stunning and practical, and I immediately want to buy one, but the international shipping probably sucks - my poor wallet. I hope they somewhat take watercolors. Can't wait for the swatching video and a sketchbook testing and review =)
Famous last words "I'm not buy any more paint" 🤣
Wow That’s fast broadband! May I ask who you use please? It takes me 12 hours to upload a video to RUclips! Great video. Love watching you x
@@NatashaNewtonArt lol thank you. Mine is meant to be super fast but ten hours to upload a 45 minute video. Arrgggggg 😂
@@helencampbell I feel your pain.
@@NatashaNewtonArt tell me about it 🙄😂
aaaah! so happy for a video. I swatched my free Maimuru Blu card today! I loved the turquiose and the Orange its really vivid. I think you'll like that one! Quinacradone lake is divine too. Take care !
I was very impressed with the colours - they're all so vibrant and pure!
Thank you! I'm loving the Turner's acrylic gouache. I also bought the Japanesque set of 45 and the colours are beautiful. 🧡
Another thing you can do is to get a cocktail stick and stir the paint/binder in the tube, and it should mix together again!
Congrats. with your speed broadband!
I can't believe Dominic had to dig the trench!!!! Wouldn't they have had to do it to lay the cables!!!????
We agree! But they wanted to charge us thousands of pounds to dig it - thousands of pounds we don't have just for a better internet connection!
OK, this is just creepy! I literally just opened my new Pith sketchbook the other day 😱 I got the Tangelo, been experimenting with inks and markers, and boy they can handle a lot! Loving it so far
Oh, this is good to know! I had high hopes when I saw the paper. :) Can't wait to experiment with it!
I'm also awaiting a sanguine durer pen!
Beautiful pens and a gorgeous colour!
Oh cry 😭 pith doesn’t ship to USA! Hope one day they decide to do so
They're only a new company, so they may well do so eventually! :)
Congrats on the internet 🙌🏻 We just got government funding approval to get high speed internet here in the sticks as well, because BT can’t be bothered 🤣 Sending 💖
Good luck - it's already made such a difference to us! I hope you're able to get it fairly soon. x
I recently got one of the large Moleskin journals as well…..scared to death to use it! Frightening!
Let's just go for it, Lynn! ;)
Natasha: I'm on a self-imposed watercolour buying ban
Me: OH NO, does that mean no more haul videos?
art supplies stores: no...don't do this to us.
😆😆😆
