nayeon is impressive to me. the range she has is crazy. not just her upper register. but her lower register is also probably the best. i was annoyed when i was starting to get to know twice at how much lines she got compared to the rest of the vocal line. but from their concerts and live stages, it's no surprise. her vocal colour is the symbol of twice. there is just a lot she can do with her voice with her range. and her live performances are truly impressive so i got over it.
i still think jeongyeon and jihyo could share her lines and adlibs more but i can't deny that i don't blame the company for how much they give her.
but please. more jeongyeon. her chorus in feel special in this killing voice gave me goosebumps
at 29:16, u're correct. it was chaeyoung who is doing the harmony. you can watch "I Got You Live Clip" to see clearly that she's singing that part :))
I personally think Jeongyeon shines the most here. Maybe because (as you mentioned) the members are mostly nasal-focused and her voice just come out as a breath of fresh air. Not saying the former is bad. They're excellent in fact. But when I'm hit with similar sound continuously, I do get a headache sorry. The same goes when I listened to Japanese songs. They're pretty similar in that way (Not surprising when 3 of their members are Japanese) 😂 The rappers also surprised me. I do hope them along with Jeongyeon will get more singing parts. Mostly I hope Jeongyeon gets better and will be more active in their activities ❤
Jeongyeon is my favorite voice in the group.. i wish she got to show it more here!
chaeyoung was "impressive" to me as well with her vocals. she seemed quite at ease with some of her parts. would like to hear more from her.
I love it when Jihyo uses her full well rounded voice which is less kpop, I first notice that when she joined masked singer way way back where she sang "like an indian doll".
nayeon said it was very hard to choose which songs they would sing, cause there is too many hit songs (not a lie) and that she would like to do a part 2 (what everyone will wait for in the future)

I agree with what you said that you wish they had been able to use their own voices. I think whoever did the vocal training at JYP leaned into the nasally high voice because it's "cute". It did fit their concept but I think it limited their natural growth. If you've followed Twice for along time, Jeogyeon has always been a lead vocal and Onces have wanted her to get more lines because she sounds beautiful.

It is not a JYP thing. It is a Korean culture thing. You will hear that nasal "cute" thing even from ballad female singers, because Koreans see that vocal technique as more feminine sounding.
Jyp also likes the half breath half vocal technique to that’s where jihyo learned it it works but sometimes it doesn’t always sound good
The thing with Jeongyeon is that Twice debuted as a teen crush concept but when Cheer Up took off, JYPE shifted their vocal tone towards a higher and bubbly tone. Jeongyeon really does the lead vocal role justice all over The Story Begins and Page Two. But when they did Twicecoaster: Lane 1, her vocal color took a backseat to the other members. At the height of Twice's fame, they were serving the happy bright fun music but Jeongyeon's voice really shines when the song is darker or holds more emotion.
honestly this killing voice solidified for me how much i like jihyo's voice, it's this open quality! i love singer that is properly supporting their belts and you can see how she's holding that time really really nicely. she's quite belty in her approach and always trying to support and give like a full resonance into her singing. she also has strong onsets and strong finish, very attentive to everything she sings
I think I Got You is probably their best song as far as a song that plays to their strengths goes. Maybe it’s cause they’ve all gotten older but their earlier songs are just too high for some of them. I agreed with all of your points in this review. Nayeon is just built different. I would love to hear more raw vocals from her to hear what she’s really made of. Jungyeon has always been a favorite of mine with her tone. It’s probably why I got excited whenever she had a bigger singing role in some of their songs. My biggest surprise was Dahyun. I’m so used to hearing her rap but her low tones are nice on the ears.
Yeahh and singing it in the studio is different to doing it live. You can cheat more in the studio haha and sing higher than what’s comfortable
Aside from obviously jihyo belting away perfectly, she also has such strong and radiant charisma as performer in every performance
They improved but they haven’t changed. They give out happy vibes since 2015 and they still do, this killing voice came out at the perfect timing for this Saturday’s encore concert in Vegas! Getting me excited 😆
Regarding TWICE’s “vocal line”, Jihyo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon are the only ones on the vocal line. Jihyo as main with Nayeon and Jeongyeon as leads. Line distributions have never really taken those positions into consideration for Jeongyeon though as you’ll see Mina and Sana regularly have more lines on title tracks. Mina is THE bridge queen but had gotten noticeably less lines since her hiatus due to mental health. Sana has always been middle of the pack but the cuts chosen here definitely showcased her a LOT. She’s definitely who I think is being pushed as the J-line main vocal for the past few years. Sana’s deeper voice is her more powerful but hasn’t fit TWICE’s concept (peep her singing during the finale stages on SIXTEEN) until recently. The “cutie-sexy” concept she had definitely stifled her vocal lines.
Hmmm. Misamo is quite similar to Twice with the positions. Mina is the Jihyo there. The obvious main vocalist. But Sana is the centre and the lead vocalist. The Nayeon of misamo. Her voice and the fact that she that she belts more than Mina is the reason she had those particular parts in the album. But mina still had significantly more lines than Sana in the album
@@asareirene Mina is not the Jihyo of MiSaMo. There is no Jihyo of MiSaMo. It’s just Mina, Sana and Momo. Sana is the only one who has potential for “belting” and has been pushed to be seen as a vocal more, recently, than Mina has.
Mina has a “prettier” voice, which is why she gets more line (especially bridges). Sana is 1000% most improved from debut though. Mina hasn’t really improved as much.
@@DatVideoDoe Mina is still the better vocalist. I only said Mina is the Jihyo of the group because she is the main vocalist of misamo like Jihyo is of twice but the lead vocalists (Nayeon and Sana) get most of the upper belts in their songs. If misamo had twice songs, I would say Sana could be the main vocalist as her voice with her belting and stuff would be more suitable but with misamo songs, it's definitely mina. And Mina has had more lines in almost every album of twice. And as far as I can remember, Sana has not beaten mina in an album distribution since fancy era and even then, I'm not sure. This includes their Japanese releases too. And regardless of how much Sana has improved, she is still the 7th best vocalist in the group. 6th at best. But no better than Mina and Chaeyoung and 3mix.
And what do you mean by pushed to be a vocal more? Especially when she is still getting less lines than Mina

You hit the nail right on the head if you watch sixteen (the survival show that started twice ) some of them sound VERY different momo especially so although they sound good now I agree with you I wonder sometimes what their vocal colors would have been like if they improved them instead of changing them and jihyo had a crazy powerful voice I think she sound like she pulling cause she had to hold back and keep that cute factor ..maybe

I just wish if they do another Killing Voice performance they'll sing more B-Sides coz they got bangers after banger in their discography.
bcoz they have the cute and bubbly image, they have to have that kind of voice. momo's lower tone is good but she have to make her voice cuter.even sana. jeongyeon is the only one who get to maintain her natural tone bcoz she have the boyish image in the group.
Seventeen had 13 members which I think so far is the most people they had for killing voice. anyway, I love this killing voice a lot, but I wished they didn't leave out their darker concept songs, where's I Can't Stop Me, Cry For Me, and Set Me Free, it's weird because they're literally on tour for Ready To Be, they should've included their darker songs 😪
I didn't make it my thought clear but I meant microphones lol and probably was thinking for girl groups but yes we did need some darker songs!
I think this was a rushed preparation because they're always busy with random schedules including the ongoing tour + comeback, so they just chose something more common instead (they often sing & everyone knows hence why there's only 2 bsides). Nayeon said they rehearsed twice & did a 1 take for final & that's it. But I think we can expect a better setlist in part 2 when they're more ready with practice & rehearsals. Some of the members said to come back next time & do the rest of their title tracks & be more diverse with bsides.
also the vocal line is Nayeon (lead), Jeongyeon (lead), and Jihyo (main) and the sub vocalists are Mina, Sana, Tzuyu. the rappers are also sub vocalists basically

i get so heated about this because theyve always had SO MUCH potential vocally, but the trainers dont cater to each of their voices - all the different colours, tones, habits and uniqueness. I would love for mina to delve more into the natural airy tone she has, and for jeongyeon to utilise her chest MORE bc she packs so much. It doesnt feel like theyve been given the confidence to sing how they would naturally, and that's really sad imo.
maybe jeongyeon trained with other people during her break, so she picked up on different habits? her voice truly sounds so good, like a breath of fresh air. i also like dahyun's tone, the soft and breathy quality also makes it less nasally
Jihyo is one of the best belter I've ever heard! she know how much volume she need to put, the best part is her voice sound so full when hitting high note
i think my only disappointment was in the lack of bridges and final choruses which was probably why we didn't get much of jeongyeon and especially mina
Jeongyeon clearly get the first half of final chorus often since those were the parts they would layer with Nayeon/Jihyo highnote adlibs so strategically Jeongyeon get only those part only to be overshadowed.😑

honestly all the good mina parts were not included even the songs where she sounded the best like set me free, scientist, more and more, etc. even the songs here, her best parts weren't included like her part in feel special and fancy! her falsettos, low registers and bridges😢

Twice discography is so good. You associate such music with being young but they will do well even as they age. This is the music people get nostalgic for as they get older
On vocals: For me, Jihyo is probably the better vocalist but Nayeon's voice fits Twice's songs better. I would go so far as to say that Nayeon's voice is Twice. More than anyone else, it wouldn't sound like Twice without her
It’s like Nayeon and Jeongyeon know you’re gonna love their vocals, but Jihyo is still feels like she has to prove herself.

i personally cant listen to twice for too long so i only watched half, it's a bit too bubblegum and high. but despite that i still somehow know most of the songs. and it's really nice how they still perform in this environment, like the concert experience is so apparent and the visuals really go crazy, love the outfits

I absolutely hate the post prod editing on this one 😭 usually it’s not that annoying but here the autotune/editing on their voices just got them all sounding "higher" ? Like even Jihyo who actually does have nasality on the regular she still sounds fuller than that but here their voices sound crazy compared to how they actually sound like live.. let’s just ban killing voice and itslive atp they both annoy me af with how they make some people’s voice unrecognizable /hj

I dont know why but I feel like nayeons technique is more like DK from SVT and Jihyo is like Seungkwan. 2 powerfull and wonderfull voices, but so different
jihyo have another style these days she change her style after cheer up to more nasal and shallow in upper register
I find this happens a lot with singers as the age as it makes reaching higher notes easier

Imo, this was just an ok killing voice. They ate the vocals but I wanted more, more harmonies, more adlibs, more little note changes, more stand out moments,etc.
I enjoyed it but it doesn’t stand out. I also think the song choice wasn’t the best. I mean, it’s all good songs and hits but we didn’t get any of the more vocally interesting and demanding b-side tracks. Definitely not to say that their titles aren’t vocally demanding, but their side tracks can be much more interesting personally.
I think they skipped ones like ICSM because the second half of the chorus is so high, even though it’s one of their hugest songs. Although Turtle (and Candy) being the only b-sides in the whole killing voice was a bit strange (would’ve loved to hear songs like Up No More, Queen of Hearts, Bloom, Baby Blue Love, Do It Again, etc.)

While I can agree, i was thinking about it. The reason is they gotta give each member a good amount of time in the songs. If they added ICSM, OR CFM, or more vocally demanding songs it would just put more emphasis on Jihyo and Nayeon since they do basically all of those parts. NY and Jihyo also do like 95% of all the background vocals, 70% of those is NY. Essentially if would just be NY/JH do all the impressive parts/and doing all the background stuff. Its actually just to much for them to do, on top of spreading around lines for the other members. It makes a lot of sense why they went with what they did

nothing against the girls at all! but i really hope that moving into their mature concepts, the company would put more effort into training them well rather than pumping out comebacks that are giving half of what they could be

I gonna be real with you, compared to Mamamoo and Red Velvet's killing voice, I found this one a bit lacklustre in comparison. Maybe it was the song choices, but I wanted more harmonies, more vocal moments, and more adlibs. 😅
Haha but why? That’s not really TWICE’s brand though. They’re pop fun singers who dance better as unit than those two, not necessarily a vocal based group so I lowered my expectations.
@Koko3op maybe I had too high of a standard, especially with the aforementioned killing voices and others like NCT 127 and Dream, seeing as they debuted around the same year.
