Tony's goes down as one of the worst meals I've had at Disney. Everything you guys said is correct. That location is incredible. The theming with Lady and The Tramp could be amazing. Italian is MY FAVORITE food and I want SO BADLY for this place to be revamped and become a can't miss destination. Hire a new celebrity chef. Revamp the whole thing. Improving this establishment can only help!
I'm 41 and been going to WDW 2 or 3 times a year since I was born. And I have never set foot in that restaurant. I don't think I knew it was a restaurant until I was in my 20's.
Discount tickets are available at Shades of Green and Downtown Disney for Military Members (Active and Retired) at $196/ticket for 4-day Park Hopper. They are also available at Military Ticket offices.
Thank you for your perspective on Tony's! I hope you do many more on the restaurants at WDW. As someone who is saving up and planning a vacation to Florida, your thoughts and opinions are so helpful! It really helps the whole aspect of planning a once in a lifetime trip.
With all of the bad reviews Tony's gets, I wonder why they don't overhaul the kitchen and menu. I decided to go with Skipper Canteen this year instead.
I spoke to dining reservations about cancellation fees recently. They told me, when calling the same day as your reservation, if your reason for cancellation is illness or if you at least attempt to rebook the reservation at the same or a different restaurant they automatically wave then $10 per person. As a local who was had to reschedule a lot of reservations same day during cold and flu season, I have never had to pay the $10.
the only reason we go to Hollywood Studios last year and this year is for Fantasmic. Our days of spending a whole day strolling around HS are long gone. We usually do AK during the day and HS in the evening. It only takes an hour to ride all the rides they have open now. And you can only watch Beauty and The Beast so many times.
+Lori Hackney also to touch on that summer quick service thing, I know a lot of people who will not stay at a value resort in the summer because that is where all of the brazilian tour groups stay and they are so loud and rude while people are trying to sleep. Also, people were complaining about the fall getting free dining and summer people not getting anything. Specifically my teacher friends who say they can only go during the summer because they teach during the fall. I think this is something to make those people think they are getting a deal too, i just don't understand it being only for value resort hotels. Staying in a value isn't worth a quick service meal.
also about Tony's, I wish they would revamp it into Princess and the Frog with a cajun restaurant. They don't have any real cajun food in the parks. I'm shocked they haven't put one in one of the Port Orleans resorts, but Tony's in MK would be the best place to put it and they could put Princess Tiana in there since she is excluded from both Cinderella's table in the castle and Akershush in Epcot.
I'm planning another trip and was about to post all those things I posted a year ago hahaha. I have some new things from our last trip but I doubt anyone will see it. :D
As a Canadian, my planned trip would of cost me $1600US taxes in. By the time you convert the exchange, it jumps to just under $2400. This doesn't include spending money either. Disney has lost me until a near par offer is shown. Its no longer affordable.
Your restaurant reviews always crack me up!!!! Please never stop doing them. I can tell just by the pictures of the food that it was repugnant. What a shame.
Meme of the day "raspberry skid mark" Seriously though I'd love to see the return of same day only dining reservations, I hate what the system has become and also fondly remember just winging it and making my reservation when I got to the park, so much more fun
I fail to understand how removing ADRs would be a positive change. I understand you are locals and it's more difficult to get in restaurants, but remember that 90% of Disney's customers are not local. I'm not spending $5-10k to come down there without assurances that I'll be able to dine where I want.
I don't think it's the crowds, I think it's Universal hotels - specifically Cabana Bay - stealing guests away. Heck, I've always been 100% devoted to the Disney resorts, but I've heard nothing but good things about CB and want to stay there ASAP!
I hope you are correct Pete and they do some kind of deal for Canadians this year. I had to cancel my trip because it was going to be an extra $2000 with the exchange. My fingers are crossed and I'm wishing for some pixie dust so we can go. An at par deal would be a dream come true. :)
i've been going to disney for most of my life and i never knew this was a restaurant until recently. i went there this past september because we got to the parks so late and it was the only place that we could get a reservation. I had a really good meal and would go back. Note: I did not get anything with "red sauce" on it because a. like any italian restaurant you are taking a chance with the red sauce because it's either hit or miss especially if you're not in new york. b. i'm from an italian family so i eat pasta constantly and i wanted a break on my vacation from getting pizza/tomato sauce. i branched out and had a lemon/garlic shrimp pasta dish from the menu and it was excellent. you guys even said some of the food you had tasted better when you took off the red sauce. is it on my list of must eat at restaurants next time i go? probably not but it's nice to know that you can get a decent meal if you're scrambling.
Thanks for the review of Tonys. I was tempted to try it again, but unfortunately, this is exactly what I remember from 8 years ago. It seems as though they fixed the dining areas and service, but the food still rots, and isn't that the whole point of spending money there? There are no characters, people are hungry and want good food. As the very first eatery you see when entering the Magic Kingdom, you'd think they'd have top notch standards for the place. Instead, its as though they truck in the food and toss it at you. Then have us gratefully pay up for the whole ordeal. Instead folk leave feeling like they've been sucker punched in the gut.
The Tiramisu review was quite harsh. I thought the picture looked pretty darn good. And in a coffe cup is kinda cute. Unless it looked worse in real life.
I remember Tony's from years ago and the steak was fabulous. It's sad that it has gone this far down hill. Why didn't you call the chef and the manager after this.
I am brand new to your site. My son has introduced me to it. I have to post this comment because I agree 100% with Pete. To me it is an embarrassment on behalf of WDW! I understand that this post is older, but I am "catching"up. LOL! Thank you so very much for all of your honest opinions!
This is all true. I have gone three times ONLY because lady & the tramp is my favorite movie and I thought I’d give it another shot. Twice for lunch and once for dinner. The sauce wasn’t acidic BUT it was flavorless! If I’m paying all this money I expect some flavor. I love the atmosphere, love the decor and the theming but come on, fix up the menu. I saw a comment about a revamp is that true? Disney needs to focus on their Main Street food options because it’s the first choice people have coming in or their last choice heading out & this place would be a crappy start/end to a Disney day!
so im gona guess the only thing that's gona possibly compete with star wars land would be Jurassic word I keep wondering why universal hasn't done anything to update their Jurassic park area to capitalize on the popularity of the new movie but I think its because they are planning something awesome to be similar to being in the Jurassic World movie! or maybe its me just wishing this would happen
i know from chatter from folks in my circles, all the construction and rumors of closures at epcot, animal kingdom and of course hollywood studios, nobody wants to go to DW right now. just like DIsneyland, nobody wants to go there either right now. another case of TOO MUCH CONSTRUCTION ALL AT ONCE!! if they had any brains at all, these construction projects would be done in half the time, have spans between projects, then start another. and yes crowds have been dowright awful!! the only non crowded time is the first 3 weeks of september, but any family with kids can NOT travel at that time. school just started.
Good podcast but wish the making fun of other people would be toned down... . Making fun of the girls hair... Tearing into the people that bought the tickets... Too much for me.
We do. You're on it. RUclips.com/DISUnplugged. If you're looking for the Dreams Unlimited Travel show then you need to go to RUclips.com/DreamsUnlimitedTravel for their show associated with the agency.
+Mc Kenna Yeah, you have to go subscribe to /DisUnplugged (which luckily does have the main show, The Trip, the DL show, and maybe the Universal show and Conversations with Walt), but then you have to go to /DreamsUnlimited to get that show and /TheDIS to get the Daily Fix (and other shows). Seems like they could all be housed under just one of those. Just pick one! Makes like much easier for viewers, and I can't help but think it would be easier for the team.
+Andrea Harbin It does make sense to have everything under one of those branches, but Dreams Unlimited Travel is separate from The DIS and all of the shows would be hidden and buried between Daily Fix and we'd like to make it the easiest for everyone to find our shows!
+Mc Kenna We do see, but it most likely has to deal with whether or not you have it set to notify you when DISUnplugged has a new video. For example, I have my RUclips settings to let me know any time Disney or Universal uploads a new video, but I also follow Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel and they update too often to justify notifications being sent to me every time they have a new video.
I totally agree with you guys about Tony's. But as long as people keep going to the restaurant and emptying their pockets for crap food, Disney, in their current mindset, has no incentive to do any better. Why should they? They're filling the restaurant. Until other fans and patrons start holding Disney's feet to the fire and stop going to Tony's, Angel Inn, and the like, things will only get crappier........ Too, isn't the Crystal Palace another nice sit-down restaurant at MK? I don't think you guys mentioned it when you were listing the sit-downs at MK. I've actually never eaten there and would love for you to do a review from there. Again, great review!
Pete is 100% telling the truth about Tony's Town Square!!! We went there late June 2016 and although the restaurant is beautiful the food is crap! I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS IS A RESTAURANT THAT IS ONLY OPEN TO ENTICE THE NAIVE NEWBIES walking into the park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You see the great location, the pretty white building and it calls to you to come on in and try it out. Unless you are absolutely fine with paying 18.99 for a Chef Boyardee type pizza, don't waste your money! The sauce is low standard and doesn't scream Italian at all. My daughter ordered the Chicken Parm which was the best out of all the things we ordered. We ordered 3 types of pizza, the spaghetti and the Chicken Parm. There were 5 of us and we just happened al ordered 5 different things. Disney should be embarrassed to allow this low standard of food to be in such a PRIME SPOT of Magic Kingdom. I will say the waiter was awesome and we tipped him handsomely, but our food was 1/2 eaten. Pete you are on point with your review! We're going back Feb 2017 and will walk on by this time.
I don't abhor Tony's, but I will admit that after visiting and re-watching this video, the presentation of their dishes is so disappointing. It looks like everything was just slapped onto to the plate.
Miss the days of visiting WDW in the 2010’s. The parks were a blast back then. It’s changed so much since our last trip in December 2020.
"Fate was against us....and so was the red sauce."-Pete Werner
Pete was right about a 3rd park at universal and he is always right about Tonys lol
Tony's goes down as one of the worst meals I've had at Disney. Everything you guys said is correct. That location is incredible. The theming with Lady and The Tramp could be amazing. OMG, John's talk about the birds moving to carousel of progress had me laughing so hard I cried!
I'm so glad I saw this. We have booked Tony's for our March trip. I will be changing my reservation today! Thanks!
Tony's sounds like my mother's cooking!
Are we gonna show Craig's package first?
I died. I'm writing this from beyond the grave. Thanks for the laugh!
LMAO! Groundhog's day is my birthday. So thanks Craig for sorta making me feel special. Great show!
+Karen Jorge You are special so happy (early) birthday!
John your my favorite, so funny!
Love you guys! Thanks so much for having the best podcasts out there!
Infant Steve omg. So proud of his rise in the company!
I'm 41 and been going to WDW 2 or 3 times a year since I was born. And I have never set foot in that restaurant. I don't think I knew it was a restaurant until I was in my 20's.
+Mc Kenna and after that review I never will.
The new park icon should be a giant Yoda!
Great show!!

Loving all the food reviews!
love you Kathy - you totally rock!!!!!
i had the pasta primavera and it was very good and light.
I was in Epcot on MLK day and at 11am the wait for journey to imagination was 45 minutes!!
Thank you for your perspective on Tony's! I hope you do many more on the restaurants at WDW. As someone who is saving up and planning a vacation to Florida, your thoughts and opinions are so helpful! It really helps the whole aspect of planning a once in a lifetime trip.

Love the opening intro you all now have started using.
Sad to lose the watertower as well, but maybe we will have a Death Star as the main feature soon!
Love the new intro guys!!! don't know how long you have had it but its great

WDW really needs to have some FP+ and ADR released over time, like 1/2 at max, 1/4 at 14 days, and 1/4 same day.
As a Canadian, my planned trip would of cost me $1600US taxes in. By the time you convert the exchange, it jumps to just under $2400. This doesn't include spending money either. Disney has lost me until a near par offer is shown. Its no longer affordable.
Pink? HAY-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :D
Your restaurant reviews always crack me up!!!! Please never stop doing them. I can tell just by the pictures of the food that it was repugnant. What a shame.
I dont think many people know what GOOD Italian really is!
I love the new intro

Adult colouring books are huge in the UK, lots of proven benefits. I had a Harry Potter one for xmas.
has anybody heard about rumors that tony's uses microwaves?
Don't disrespect Chef Mike lol 😆
From what I have heard, the "TEST" is for the actual restaurant, not for the policy.
Was planing on taking my wife to Tony's, thank you!! Will not go now!!!
I don't think it's the crowds, I think it's Universal hotels - specifically Cabana Bay - stealing guests away. Heck, I've always been 100% devoted to the Disney resorts, but I've heard nothing but good things about CB and want to stay there ASAP!
+A C And I think the fact that this very sad offer is for Value resorts supports that.

I just ate at Tony's tonight and yes it was bad. This is a year after you guys went and it's still bad. I'm not going back there again.

how was the bread you guys were served?
The Tiramisu review was quite harsh. I thought the picture looked pretty darn good. And in a coffe cup is kinda cute. Unless it looked worse in real life.
Loved The Names In The Open. Why is Craig Just Craig?
I remember Tony's from years ago and the steak was fabulous. It's sad that it has gone this far down hill. Why didn't you call the chef and the manager after this.

i can tell you ALOT of UK families are putting off WDW trips for multiple paris trips as many cheaper ways to stay are becoming public knowledge.
+Hollie Ballard As an American I'm so excited the euro is down against our dollar - can't wait to go back to Paris!
No ADRS! That would be great! OR have ADRS only for resort guest.
Please have someone replace Tony's Town Square. It sounds like it no one wants to eat there.
why are the trip advisor ratings so high when the place is supposedly that bad? is it that the average person going has poor taste?
Good podcast but wish the making fun of other people would be toned down... . Making fun of the girls hair... Tearing into the people that bought the tickets... Too much for me.

Not having ADR is moronic in my opinion

Totally agree!
Glad I cancelled it in 2015. Mostly because of the reviews. I hope the new revamp is better.
Nope! New threat today!
I was not impressed at all with Tony's Town Square Restaurant several years ago. I can get better food from Marie Callender's frozen food.
What's with this intro? Confused.
I don't abhor Tony's, but I will admit that after visiting and re-watching this video, the presentation of their dishes is so disappointing. It looks like everything was just slapped onto to the plate.
You know what grinds my gears? Tony's Town Square ruins the classic scene from the movie. Completely misses the magic of that scene.
