      @@iamdamosuzuki_ I agree. Syd is one of my all-time favorite guitarists but not because he was technically proficient, which he wasnt, but because of his inventiveness and outside the box approach. Anyhow, Syd just never played those kinds of licks and phrases. On a side note, Syd plays a great lead guitar on Gigolo Aunt from his album Barrett. It's nothing too crazy or technical but it's interesting and unique. Finally, some of the best guitar advice I ever heard came from Jeff "Skunk" Baxter of Steely Dan. He basically said you don't to be the fastest or the best or the most technical guitarist but you need to develop your own unique style and that's one thing Syd definitely had.

    Syd could most definitely PLAY! Not in an absolutely precise or pedantic way, but in a flowing, very creative and very evocative way. Heck, he could play better than most of us, granted that he was there in the first place -- which I think is the only probable thing because his sound is so distinct.

      Heard the Pink Floyd Lp from 1965 / 1966 it was a bluesy 30 minutes where Syd played some good guitar licks that were although common were fantastic similar to Kieth Richards and Jimmy Page during that time in technique

      The thing is, there’s absolutely no logical reason to disbelieve them, and yet so many people reflexively do, every time such a claim is made. People WERE at the show. Given that most of the audience would most likely have been in their late teens or early twenties at the time, most of them would still be alive. And If you were at a concert in the early 70s that went on to become somewhat legendary, it stands to reason you are likely to be interested in what recordings may exist of that concert, and that you would seek them out on RUclips. It would be surprising if there WEREN’T multiple comments here from people who were actually at the show.

    Hmm, I don't remember hearing this but I commented 2 months ago. Hmmm. There are alot of really interesting guitar parts in this jam. The bass player should have trying to help change the groove when things started sounding monotonous. The guitar players did a good job for what it is. It's a psychedelic jam. Exactly what you'd expect to hear. There's a few really good parts I caught. Even that simple two chord rhythm at one point sounded good.

    • @samlott99
      @samlott99 8 лет назад +9

      Yes, Syd was a very sensitive person to begin with, but by this point, his mental illness had progressed to a really bad place, AND assholes were still spiking his drinks with LSD. Syd was doing drugs on his own, but these assholes were putting megadoses in his drinks - sometimes 3 or 4 different people spiked the drink, not knowing others had already spiked it. People did that kind of thing to icons like Syd and Jim Morrison, in hopes of triggering a creative side and taking credit for triggering something out of them. End result, sadly was some permanent damage. Syd wasn't a stereotype eccentric, like his sister Rosemary said in the BBC interviews. She minimized and downplayed Syd's disposition, denying the mental illness and strange behavior. She did that as anyone would for a family member and help preserve the legend, and Syd's integrity. But too many people in Cambridge had seen the bizarre "Acid/mental illness" behavior, including some violent episodes, many many fires he started, breaking and slamming things, cursing all hours of the night, and other sad behavior. It s those assholes that spike his drinks that need to be held accountable, but i imagine they are locked away somewhere if not dead.

    • @cathyr2419
      @cathyr2419 6 лет назад +2

      Yes. It makes me sick to think he was surrounded by people who intentionally harmed him. They were NOT friends. They spiked his coffee, tea. and food also. I would have gotten away, far away from these leeches. You are right, he was ultra sensitive. Felt things on a deeper level. Others didn't understand him. He did not have schizophrenia. Roger Waters knows 0 about mental illness, he misrepresents Syd in the interviews. LSD has caused people to jump from buildings to their death. Were they all crazy? NO, it was the drug. Being they type guy he was, LSD didn't help matters. I wish he would have found a few guys that were decent humans and formed a band he would have enjoyed. Shine on You Diamond. Not crazy.

      But that beginning riff that nobody plays along to thats really muddy and distorted is Syd. He plays it for only a few secs in the beginning.

    The healthy Syd Barett was creative. Unfortunately he had the wrong friends. Pink Floyd and Syd were a good match. The Piper... was a good record. His sister Rosmarie once said: His bad times started with Pink Floyd... I think his bad times started with the shared flat that Syd lived in... He hangs out with junkies too much... His two solo records should have been recorded with Pink Floyd, they would have been better musically... Drugs ruin your life. I'm interested in how Syd lived with his illness... Did he ever have therapy???

    But roger told me he could hardly play at this point because he drank gallons of acid and remained in a frozen, drooling psychotic state

      He may have been in this psychotic thing you're talking about but, man! He could still play that Danalectric! I suppose the fact that he didn't sing, but just occasionally mumbled is a clue to the state he was in.

      Chaim Yamin Not necessarily, when you're just jamming its cool to just say shit that comes in the moment, i personally think he wasn't fucked up at all like people perceive.

      +yayayaokoksure Dodger ...i saw a clip where he says..'and we realised this guy with a pot belly was Sid..We didn't recogise him'...ffs, all that money made off his back and the pricks don't visit him. I adore their music etcetera but that comment and attitude sucked.

      Maurock Barrett Boo, Syd's guitar playing here is awesome. His playing during this era was more mature and faster than it was with Pink Floyd or on his solo albums. Twink, the drummer, said it himself. How can you say otherwise once you hear that solo in the middle? Sure, it's a rough jam, it takes a bit for Syd to warm up, and he gives room for Fred Frith to play, but when he lets it rip, he lets it rip. His sense of timing and improvisation here is as good as ever. This isn't just hype from a bunch of Sydiots. Listen and learn.
