I didn’t know the figure 8 knot trick, so thanks! I learned something knew
Also, would you consider showing the process of removing the paper template in a future video?

I typically thread baste through both fabric and template, I think I don’t do a neat enough job with basting through fabric only, and am concerned about how to remove template after glue basting so everything still stays neat. I’m really enjoying the sew along, lovely tutorial

Like a lot of things in can take a bit of practice. Having said that always do what feels most comfortable for you and gives you the results you want.

What size jewel are you making? Also when combining hexagon and jewels would they both be the same size such as 1 inch? I’ve never venture out of making just hexagon. I’d like to try others, but I’d like to mix them also.

Hi Mary Alice, I am using 1" jewels in my quilt. If you are wanting to combine hexagons then they need to be the same size, so I would need 1" hexagons for example. Essentially any shape you are putting with a jewel needs to have the same edge length, so it needs to measure the same as the short edge or the long edge depending on where you are wanting the different shapes to connect. Happy Stitching

Thank you so much. I just finished a two-year project with a hexagon quilt. I want to make another one, but I wanted to incorporate other shapes along with the hexagon. Thank you for your answer now onto the next couple of years I’m 83 years old so I better get to it thank you again.

I don’t understand why the fabric direction needs to be switched when the design doesn’t ‘matter’ …. also, can’t the fabric be stacked before cutting the shape?
I love your selection of prints! 🧵

Great question! As I work with a lot of different fabrics all at the sane time I just get into the habit of flipping my template when cutting the fabric so that when I come to a fabric that is directional I don't accidentally cut it the wrong way. You can stack the fabric before cutting out shapes and I do this quite often, just depends on the project and the shape and fabric I'm working with.
