I came across this on Reddit and saw cooling tower. In my head I was like, I wonder if it's Satsop. Sure AF is. I grew up a majority of my young life in Lake Sheldon, Elma and Montesano as my dad was a superintendent during construction of the Satsop power plant. I spent many summers up there on the site watching them load in the big equipment to construct it, looking for lost trucks that had fallen in the gully's as the descended with huge loads of logs, etc. The most fascinating thing though was when they brought up the huge crane that lifted the 500 ton slabs of that tower you are standing in. It went up and back down in many pieces through those windy hill roads. Also, during the raising of the first tower, one of those slabs broke free of the crane and fell to the ground crushing one of the crane riggers underneath. He survived miraculously as the ground was so soft it smushed him into it. I think he had some broken bones and scrapes and bruises, but was not seriously injured. Thanks for the memories and if my dad was still alive I would send him this. Unfortunately, after construction was complete, the Chinese bought the plant and then mothballed it. It never went into service.
We drove by there on the way home from our last camping trip at Mt. Rainier. You can see the towers from the highway. I wanted to stop and check them out, but the family was tired & grumpy, just wanted to get home. Next time, I'm gonna make it happen!
imagine be hanging on a hammock in the center of that cooling tower , on lsd of course while pink floyd its playing down there and just be lying looking at the sky
There's a type of reverb that basically utilizes the empty space around a studio room to create a sort of cave reverb. It's probably like that but times a 1000.
OMG and WoW! If you can build up a bassline fixated on the echoes' rhythm it will sound incredible! Like Armin Küpper does with those pipelines and his sax. Hope to hear more of this! Subscribed!

@@DerEchteBold I realize that, but I had cranked the sound and I could literally hear the distant wind in the trees... not a hint of a generator. Even with hundreds and hundreds of feet of extention cables, you'd hear a slight 'lawnmower' sound in the distance. It's dead quiet there. Crank it yourself and listen.
ruclips.net/video/O336i2HMdQM/видео.html Coolant towers would be kind of dangerous to be in while they are operational, but not due to radiation as the coolant mediums outside the primary circuit are not radiated... rather the danger would be being scalded by steam
The only thing left is the cooling tower. The plant itself was never even activated and was mothballed due to lack of funding. It's called the Satsop Cooling Tower and has been rebuilt into a business park.
so the mic was at the amp... was there another mic for the "what the bass sounds like in a cooling tower"?? to me, its just a mic'd amp... in a cooling tower.... would of been cool, but its a solid MEH for me.... Great bass sound though... love the group.
So the sound can bounce off the walls and you're getting the meat of the sound, also putting an amp on its back especially if it's a tube amp is just a horrible thought as a guitar player.
We all know Sylvia is known for collecting and building unique recording tools. Never thought she would get a nuclear cooling tower for epic echos. Better fiber up some mics so you don't have to drive to it all the time. ;)
Her: *slaps E string*
Tower: _"E, E, E, E, E, E, e, e, e, e, e, e, ᵉ, ᵉ, ᵉ, ᵉ, ᵉ"_
To be clear, it is an E string, but on the second fret, so it's an F# sound.
(ruining jokes is fun)
@@mortadellawhiskey There goes my search for MiniME gifs...

Post-apocalyptic music concerts should be held in abandoned nuclear cooling towers
Imagine how many bandits it would attract
and zombies

why not active, abandoned nuclear powerplants reaching melt down. Then you really would have some heavy metal. lol
when you cant afford a delay pedal:
Just buy a cooling tower. Easy.
it's better than any delay pedal
@@revhill819 you can't choose feedback or time delay .. i wouldn't say better
@@nicofromtheweb4891 you can change the position of amp and mics and you will affect it

My dad worked at the gas plant in Satsop that is now where the nuclear plant was supposed to be
I remember when I had my first beer.
As soon as I saw the clip I knew it was satsop
sounds a little like the beginning of Pink Floyds "One of these Days"
gado.
Will B .
One of these days... I'm going to cook you a little pizza!
it's called delay, it sounds like every song with delay on the bass lol
That's what I was thinking right away.

WOW GREAT NUCLEAR REVERB! KKKKKK GREAT JOB LEAH AND SYLVIA!
This is unbelievably cool! All of it!
I learned of this from the interview with Andrew Scheps. So cool!!! Great interview BTW!
I'm a Nuclear power plant worker and a guitarists. I would love to Jam out in a Cooling Tower! This is amazing!
I would love to hear "One of these days" Played in that cooling tower.
Right? it has that kind of a vibe to it

What kind of delay pedal are you using? Sounds killer!
The sounds just radiate!
I wish there was more. That sounded great!
Woahhh, that sounds incredible!
Fender Jazz Bass and Ampeg amp. I think I'm in love.
It just puts me in awe, the shear scale of one of these cooling towers in person must be a real sight to see.

I wonder what a mic at the top of the tower would sound like?
That was Awesome!!!

Wait is this a music video or a very specific recording technique for one of Sylvia's productions?
I thought this was gonna be a cover of Lisa Simpson's "Cooling Tower" song, but it turned out to be something way cooler.
Nuclear power is beautiful.
There is electrical service there? Where did the amplifier plug in ?
There are portable generators.

Well, they are professionals, they know how to do this.
Maybe it's in a truck or something.
Finally, an answer to one of the oldest questions in rock and roll!
Thats a nice amp. I can't figure out what model it is? It looks like a portaflex combo.
I think it’s an Ampeg B-200r.
So where’s the actual recording they made here?
i have to watch all these like twice just because
One of these days!
yooooo That would be sick with drums there live too. Hell yeah sick video!
The description says “Leah Julia” but I think her name is Leah Julius.
Epic!
That was getting good!!!!
Love the Ampeg B-200R
Got a huge PM5K vibe from their intro to Operate, Annihilate from the Tonight The Stars Revolt! album. ✌️🐢🦖
COOL! I wanna hear a drum kit in there too
And thus Scott Pilgrim vs The world became real.
Wow that's BIG!
Not loud enough. That cooling tower needs to tremble.
A huge amp would have been cool
I wonder how it would sound if there were some pipes and drums in the tower.
Thanks! That’s been gnawing at me for a long time. Now I know!
Im sure it was a great experience being there but it doesn’t come across in the same way sat here at home watching on an ipad.

How did you get permission to be in there it's fenced off with no admission

picture from 1990???

Do it again but filmed further away from the amp. This would stop the amp's volume from overwhelming the echo in the recording.

best kind of nuclear power plant. abandoned. another couple of hundred thousand years and it won't be dangerous anymore.
Need to play "Another brick in the wall" in there, it sounds just like Waters' intro

A drum set would sound awesome in here
It would sound even better slightly higher up.
Best natural delay sound
I wonder what Lemmy's bass would have sounded like in there?
Probably would have demolished the whole bloody tower!
Requiescat In Pace, Lem. ❤️
Rhythm and timing combined would have made this sound a lot better ...G...
Ah yes the infamous acoustic delay pedal.
I wonder... does it fit on my board?
You need a couple drones with condenser mics to land on the rim
why buy a delay pedal when u have this
Why wouldn’t you face the speaker up?
