Loved your reasons for reading, Tina! 1) learn how to set goals and 2) learn how to achieve those goals 🙌🏼
Just finished 'Never split the difference'; I enjoyed how it explained the psychology of negotiating.
(Sidenote: How Chris explained using odd numbers in offers during negotiations to have more success in hitting that number was super interesting!)

I'm always looking for books to read. I'm well past my 30s, but I'm aggressively interested in books I can pass down to my two children, nieces and nephews. I know it's not going to be a great gift for them at the time, but I'm putting together a "box" of books they need to read while they are young and am planning to give it to them upon graduating high school. Thank you so much for the book recommendations.

1:39 The book You Are A Badass helped me realize that there’s nothing wrong with me for not having that ONE real passion that I just wanted to do for the rest of my life.
The reality is that very few people have this. The rest of us are better off finding something that doesn’t make us miserable and offers us a wage to afford the lifestyle we want.

I want to be able to live in NYC without extensive money stresses or a car, and be able to go on nice vacations. Before the pandemic I estimated that to mean I'd need a salary of $67,000. I didnt have a lot of money stressors (like a car) and I don't remember if i factored in student loan payments but thats what it was. Now with inflation and a change in life goals (want an electric car and house instead of an apartment) Im definitely gonna need to earn a but more than that.

I am 37 and did not rage click out haha. I often feel so far behind in life. Had been wanting to be an Analyst of some sort for several years and only through taking a Data Analytics Bootcamp last year have a finally got my foot in the door as a Business Analyst at a company.
However I am only making 50k. Most of my coworkers are 10-15 years younger than me. But I am finally doing something I wanted to do. Spent most of my adult working career in administrative roles and ashamed of talking about my jobs to others.
I am literally planting the tree 10+ years late but am at least on the right path. Just hope to increase my salary and move up the career later sooner rather than later.

I loved the first book recommendation. People/companies etc generally continue talking about passion, but if there is no skill to back it up, it is a house of cards, you may be passionate towards something you truly know nothing about if you don't develop skills and depth in that. And then when you do start learning about it you may become disillusioned with it.
Also, may I ask, that animated snorlax!! Where can I buy this??? So cute!

Passion might be over rated, but it is still in some ways relevant.
A simple example might be - Career Changes. Though there might be several reasons why people make career transitions; one of them is some people are stuck in careers they have no interest in, one reason being pressure from parents and society and the prestige of some careers(Med, law etc.).
On another note though your 20's is important but, this idea of hustle in your 20's and if you are confused about your career etc.. then you're doomed... Is troublesome in my opinion.

Very good callout! I was actually debating this book and originally had a whole section talking about why I wouldn’t follow the book to a T but took it out in the end because I thought it takes away from the summary. I think this book does take it to an extreme but I also realize that many people really do need it. What I think is that yes you should go get a skill that is valuable but also experiment along the way eg. I did this with data science/coding and youtube. I don’t think you have to be very good at data science for example before you start a youtube channel about data science. But getting good at a skill (even if the book takes it to an extreme) is way better than many people’s tendency to bounce around and never commit to anything in the first place :)

It takes away the responsability from oneself to develop good skills and valuable work, it takes work to have a fulfilling and enjoyable work life.

To be a glutton is the easy road like Rich Man and Lazarus, but that’s the wide road to hell. Mahirap talaga kumain ng fruits and veggies and healthy foods. Especially 35 na ako, so things are different unlike nung 20’s ako. No pain, no gain. Mas madaling magself destruct kesa mag self construct. You need a concerted effort and lots of willpower to be a good person or the best possible version of yourself. Mas madali maging couch potato and do nothing!

Karamihan ng mga libro basura lang. The Self Help World is so different from the Real World. And opinion lang yan ng isang tao, most likely author na walang pera na gustong magkapera sa libro. No different sa mga New Thought writers noong early 1900’s na sobrang fetish ung Telepathy and Telekinesis, Professor X and Magneto.
Ang gusto ko ishare sa mga tao, na most likely walang makikinig, is how to be rich and use your money wisely. So di lang siya nakafocus sa pre-rich stage but also sa post-rich stage. Kasi normally sa pre-rich hustle and grind. Well ganun talaga sa trad business pero sa akin na trader smart work. Sa post-rich naman, default mode ng tao, sex, drugs, party, women more like the fake IG influencers and rappers. What if there’s a better way? To make use of time and money. Jan papasok si Wisdom because it’s hell lot easier to do evil than good. Evil is our default mode because of our fallen nature due to original sin and we live in a fallen world full of temptations from the devil! So if you will not deliberately seek Wisdom, as in the Wisdom of Solomon, and the Wisdom of Christ which is greater than Solomon, mapupunta ka sa hedonistic default mode or the “path of least resistance”. Kasi un ang pinakamadali at pinakamasaya sa tao.

MJ Demarco…stretching it here? Some hit it big, explain how they did it, and think that anyone who follows their formula will too. Luck plays a role, no?

Of course luck plays a role :) But luck also has a way of happening to people who put themselves out there. The way I think about it is do I want to try and perhaps hit it or give up and definitely not hit it.

@@TinaHuang1 Agree 100%. The book’s claims like “crack the code“ etc and knocking of the so-called slow lane approach are off-putting though. And he does claim under “The Sidewalk Approach”, luck isn’t needed for wealth. The points under The Slowlane don’t make much sense to me as justification, since you trade your time whether an entrepreneur or not, and someone in the slow lane will have more free time now and can play on weekends while the entrepreneur is grinding it - doubt most slow-laners are waiting until they’re 65 and wealthy to enjoy life :) Of the four dangers viewable in the video - those really apply to everyone, eg anyone can die young, and an entrepreneur’s business can go under too etc

Rich Dad, Poor Dad resembles closely to the last book you've mentioned, "The Millionaire Fastlane". In the concept of " making money work for you".

Un ang subject of research ko. Sabi ko pag mayaman ka no excuse to be fat. You can have cavitation machine and EMS sculpt machine in your home pag tamad ka mag-exercise. At saka you have your own private chef, nutritionist, trainer, massage therapist (with sex pa kung gusto mo), life coach. It isn’t as linear anymore as in Medieval Times. Di ko un makita sa mayayaman ngayon, mga tanga silang lahat: “Woe to you rich”. Goal ko is to produce Wise Rich Men not another rich douchebag.
