Overwatch for the longest time has this reputation as being the "Queer FPS" both derogatory and positive despite it's actual track record with queer rep. I personally say they really should lean into it because they already got branded as the gay shooter, why not make that it's flag.
And also: if it wasn't clear lately OW is trying to pivot from being an esport comp game to a causal story and character focused game and what Florida Mayhem is doing will definitely help get more ppl to play.

the part where you question Why Are They Like This is so funny as someone who has been into yeehan since 2017, i honestly wish i could tell you LOL. also i agree that memeing aside, this type of social media engagement does feel like it points more towards acceptance of queerness in esports, cause i feel like if they tried this in 2018 at the start of the league it'd be a different story

For a bit of context avast is a major force at misfits org (who own mayhem) social media team and probably the most prominent co-streamer for OWL and when asked about this on stream he said that he thought it would be funny and make for good engagement. I just ran into the PR manager of Mayhem (or at least someone claiming to be them) asking who everyone's favorite OWL team was, who told me their job after I said Mayhem. Sent them over to this video as to the reason why! Some chance it's fake, but was pretty cool to see regardless. Hopefully they'll leave a comment on here too :P

Beforr i watch fully (i may pass out mid video or just forget) i know the org Misfits gaming has a few queer folk (i think ranboo and aimsey?, idk i dont keep up with that side of youtube) but i think its very much geared towards us queer folk and older teens while other western teams are kinda just for the average gamer purely
