My guess on how the tire groover works is that the blade is also a filament that heats up. When you pull the trigger, the electric current runs thru the blade allowing it to instantly heat up. I'm sure that it took a sec or two to completely cool off after letting go of the trigger, but you get the point.. Brilliant idea..
Looks to be another worth while investment. Watching the snow roll and tumble on that pusher is just the coolest thing. Another interesting video. I love how you think outside the box instead of just throwing money at the problem.

Having guys do the small things like this keeps them super happy I bet. Guys getting paid to perform detailed small things is a reward for them to keep going. Team building at its finest.
I did this to the R4 tires on my tractor and it works great. Works even better if you don't run the tires at max pressure when you're not really loading them much beyond raising the blade. Get just a little flex in the side of the tire so it's not so hard and they'll grip like glue! (Same for the tires on your trucks...) BTW, my $100 grooving iron works almost as well as your $500 tool, so I feel pretty good about that... :)
Wow that brings back some great childhood memories!! My two buddies who I grew up next door to had to groove big tires for their dad during the summer. Something to keep in mind, is that as you reduce the amount of rubber in contact with the ground, you also increase the amount of wear on the rubber that is left. Hence why dirt/construction tires have such blocky designs, they are designed for longevity in rough conditions. But since you are using it primarily for snowplowing, where traction is more important than thread wear, it is a good trade-off, since more traction means faster work, and faster work means more money in the long run. 😁

Stan those new groves definitely helped guess what you can now do if you have a flat snow tire on one of your wheeled skids you can toss groves in the stock R4 industrial tires and use it as a spare tire when a tire shop is closed
@@Dirtmonkey no problem Stan and if you get new tires for the sledge which you might want to cause where you are probably having tire leaks is where the tread and side wall meet inside the tire my mom had that happen 8 times on 8 different tires and they can’t be fixed in that area of the tire these cracks on the inside look like what dry rotted tires look like on the outside once you get these cracks you are constantly putting air in them
very cool.. if you sipe also it would significantly improve the traction in winter. some tools you can flip the cutter over, the u shaped head and have 2 straight cuts per pass. or they probably sell a siper head. snow sticks to snow. the best winter tires have tons of sipes, along with softer compound. but ya the price for having 2 sets of tires for summer and winter. maybe lower air pressure too a bit.. a grinder also to freshen up before sipping. it gets the glaze off. sipping is faster then grooving also. you can also do to skid steers. love the channel thanks for the good content.. big fan. Siping tires helps a ton too. On my tool I just put the cutting tool in the gun in the opposite direction so it cuts two sipes instead of a groove. i have been looking at getting one of those tire groovers. i siped the front tires of my kubota with a box cutter, took me 45 min a tire (DM for pics). sipes really helped the traction. the tractor came with R1s and they totally suck in the snow. i can't use chains either, i spend a lot of time backing up steep driveways throwing snow, so the fronts were my priority (plus much cheaper to replace if it was a total fail). just the sipes made a noticeable improvement. will be grooving the rears before next season.

Truck tires have entirely different siping requirements. I would have done that in stages, first simply put the single parallel zig-zag groove pattern across each stock lug. That would have cut the time down. A lot of the benefit comes from the fresh sharp edges. Your investment will allow you to freshen that up when needed.
The old grooving tool years ago looked like a soldering iron with a blade screwed on. Truck tires are stamped regroovable on the sidewall if they can be regrooved .Regrooving can ruin a casing to be recaped. You know if you regroove too deep when you see cord showing in the bottom of groove.

That is the same thing we use for our race cars. I have a 2 handed heated siper we should try on your tires for next year. I have 3 different sipers and grooving irons. I do this to my skidsteer tires and it doubles the life of the tires
Siping, grooving or both. It will work for the tracks also. Don't be afraid to sipe both ways. Across the tires (forward traction) and around (side to side bite).
They use to have company's that would come out to the used car lots and grind the tire down and make new treads for them right on the car. Costumers thought they were getting new tires. Guess that was like the 60's Tires had a lot more rubber, didn't have the compounds they have now.

_"If you spend money on things you _*_don't_*_ need, soon you won't have money for things you _*_do_*_ need."_
@@Grumpy_old_Boot good saying but I’d rather spend 500 now rather than 5k later😉
@@andyt4632
To be fair, if it can save you 5k, then you probably do *need* it now. 😀
The saying is about foresight, and saving up for it when you need it.
cant wait to see these tires perform next winter season, cool vid stan!
lucky for us -it snowed one more time so we got to try them out. Thats coming in a couple weeks.
Crazy how you guys got the snow we were gonna get over here in Wisconsin lol
This winter has been one weird event after another.
@@Dirtmonkey oh tell me bout it...
That is the same thing we use for our race cars. I have a 2 handed heated siper we should try on your tires for next year. I have 3 different sipers and grooving irons. I do this to my skidsteer tires and it doubles the life of the tires
Im going to try it on a set of dirt tracks and see if it works for snow
Siping, grooving or both. It will work for the tracks also. Don't be afraid to sipe both ways. Across the tires (forward traction) and around (side to side bite).
That little machine is awesome! Saves a lot of money
You got that right! It worked so much better than I thought it would
Nice one Stan 👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴
Thanks Tony
❤ No wire in cabin when shredding.
we removed it all.
They use to have company's that would come out to the used car lots and grind the tire down and make new treads for them right on the car. Costumers thought they were getting new tires. Guess that was like the 60's Tires had a lot more rubber, didn't have the compounds they have now.
I did city buses learned to sharpen them up with a hone. Did a lot of those tires in my day
Awesome! Thanks for shout-out brother! Keep up the great work and hopefully I can do a custom floor coating or an Overlay for you some day 👍
You bet! Your invited up anytime.
@@Dirtmonkey Thanks!
I actually looked at one of these used it’s bigger then the one you have perfect snow machine for sure and price was right
Was it new or used? How much did they want for it?
@@Dirtmonkey it s barely used 140hours on it it’s an lg 938L $64,000 it’s literally like new little bigger then yours I think
@@Dirtmonkey sdlg was written on the side of it as the manufacturer and the guy told me Volvo loader parts I think are interchangeable
Looking forward to see how it does in different types of snow.
me to- luckily we had one snow storm to test them out before the season ended
Using a regrooving machine was a great way of thinking outside the box
👊 Thanks
Thanks for the shout out!! Stay safe
You bet
Yep beside dirt Mikey Sam is my favorite thumbs up and I am trying to get a plow for my Poulan Pro Lawn Mower
A foxbody dressed up in the JDM style actually looks really good
Hey Stan hey Sam hood job on the tire grooving we use to get our forklift ls done and the smaller blades are for smallest tires he use to use two sizes bigger for big front wheel and smaller for the rear tyres 👍
I think we are trying do a set of skid steer tracks next.
@@Dirtmonkey like to see that video Stan 👍
Oh yeah grooving them tires. Was the trick!👍🏻🇺🇸
Yes it was!
love it. I have one my dad used for truck tires. Unfortunately, we can no longer do that. in Denmark
can you still use it on agriculture equipment? or off road applications/
@@Dirtmonkey yes. under 40 km/h
And now you know why we've been hollering about snowtires. 😂
Right!?👊
@@Dirtmonkey
I hope we weren't too annoying about it.
We do want our Dirtmonkey to be in a good mood as he breaks another blade on the tire-groover. 😄
Anyways, good video, thanks for sharing it with us. 😀
We do the same thing to our race car tires for better traction never thought about doing it on heavy equipment 👍🏻👍🏻
Im glad this worked out. I didn't think it would but yeah! wow. That was cool
Very cool! I have never seen this done. Cooper has a new snow tire coming out called the snow claw. They may have come out this month. My dump trucks motor is shot. Mechanic said major internal damage
My dump truck motor went out a few years ago- I had an inframe overhaul done- cost me $10,000. nothing is cheap in construction.
@@Dirtmonkey i welded a new bottom in the bed of mine and re did the sides, lined the inside of the bed with new metal. Cab had lots of ventilation holes with rust trim and foot cooling holes in floor boards hahaha those were next. Not anymore!
Did something similar on my Kubota TLB. Definitely helped on ice/hard pack. No help in mud.
