Wow. OK this colony has had a rough time of it. That they still have a queen is totally remarkable. I appreciate how you handled this - and I do believe your approach has given them a good chance. Now obviously, it being full winter now - I think this was filmed a few months ago? So - stopped to see the description - you anticipated us! Thank you sir!! So it was recorded July 4th of 2020. You failed in guessing the questions only in the follow up. On your next filming, take a few minutes please and show us this colony. I would like to know what kind of lemonade they made out of this! Bees - like all of God's creation - are perfect in what they are and do and how they do it. If any creature can turn their history into a legend - it's this colony! I am so pulling for them!
It is nice to hear the bees and birds chirping and summer sounds. Maybe this is God's way of making winter less hard. Your bees are such good producers that they out built the brood and honey stores. Amazing. God bless you and the guys. Those bells are so pretty.
I have been going to the abbey for over 13 years, and I never tire of hearing them. It is so cool to hear the bells when your a mile in the woods, it brings God into my work at hand. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jessica. Mr. Ed
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching, it is greatly appreciated. I am very excited for you at becoming a beekeeper, the world needs as many as it can get. God's peace Linda. Mr. Ed
I have an idea for a simple device that should help you doing cutouts. Since I'm not a beekeeper it's probably a stupid idea, but that's not new. Often I see you cut a piece of comb, look for the queen, then pick up the vacuum hose, vacuum off the bees, and put the comb in a cooler. Now imagine a very thin wood box about the size of one frame, open on top, with your vacuum hose attachment to an outlet on low on one side. You cut the comb, look for the queen, and put the comb in the box. Now you lift the box by the vacuum hose, maybe tap it once or twice to knock off the bees, which enter the vacuum. Tip it upside-down in the cooler to deposit the comb, and go cut another piece. You may not even need to put down the knife. Hope you fine the idea useful, but feel free to tell me it won't work. I've never done what you do. Be well. God's Peace.
That was so much more comb than it looked at first! And while it looked all haphazard and crazy, it also looked quite beautiful. Thank you Mr Ed for another great video! It's always great to see something completely new.
Hi Mr Ed, I really appreciate your kindness and love your explanations. I have watched many many hours of your work it’s wonderful! I would really appreciate if you would close out each hive with closure if you would not mind in the future? I would love it if maybe a week later you just gave us 30 or so seconds of here is the hive 2 weeks later see how great they are doing. As you share hive retrieval and or repair etc many times we are just curious how the hive did and maybe how many boxes you ended up needing for the size of retrieval. Thank you for your giving heart and the hard work you do to put together these videos.
So great to hear from you Anna and I truly appreciate your kind words and the amount of time you are spending watching my videos, thank you for that. I don't often do updates of hives after they have been set up, but I have done a few in the past months, and I am getting ready to do another in a few weeks on the removal we did from the shed recently. Get ready for that one, it should be really interesting as it was a huge hive on the verge of swarming when we removed it. Looking forward to hearing from you again, God's peace always. Mr. Ed
I really like it when you append a coda at the end letting us know how things turned out. It adds so much to the narrative of the video when you treat it like a story and tell us the ending. We love watching what you do and hearing you explain why. Two weeks later, were the bees happy inside their hive? God bless & keep it up.
Another good one Jeff. Surprised you tackled this difficult and unusual cut out yourself. Thought you might have got that young fella from around Gulfport to do it for yer. Nice little silent movie cameo at the end. Thanks for making them, keep on.. oOh I've already done that one
Wow! That was absolutely fascinating! I find it interesting that the after getting robbed out the bees would abandon the hive to build underneath it where there is less protection. My daughter saw the queen and exclaimed, "Oh my goodness! She's so big she looks like a wasp!" Sure enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome. I have a crazy idea. (Thinking outside the box) All I know about bees is what I have learned from you and YES the dirt rooster. Lol. So , maybe if you just cut a bunch of holes in the bottom board where the comb gaps are and place a hive box on top with no entrance other than from the bottom. Maybe you can get them to move on up on there own . Then close off the holes and open the top entrance. . Maybe net time . It would be a great experiment. I would love to see the results.
Silly bees having a hive identity crisis 😂 I love that bees are so inventive, producing the most beautiful patterns. Best give yet I habevseen was inside a British red post box . It was awesome. Thank you for loving and careing for this wonderful little creatures that make the world work so well ❤
Great video. At least you didn't have to travel very far to do this cut-out, lol. What an awesome scene when the robber bees showed up!!! Such a beautiful place there. Thanks for showing some of the scenery. Take care and stay safe. God bless.
Oh, I see your wearing a Guardian Bee Apparel T-shirt. I love those guys. Terry and Dana are great friends of mine. And I believe they have the best bee suits, primarily because the face mask unzips and opens for you to drink, fix your hair and all the essentials.
I had bees do that on one of my swarm traps last year..what a mess I had in the woods! The guy whose house I had it on was supposed to be keeping an eye on it for me🙄 nice job as always you 2!👍🏻👍🏻
I noticed the moment you put that bee box back on the bees that were not vacuumed up who were probably out in the field started to go into the box, very interesting.
Nice work Mr. Ed! I never thought about the orientation of the comb, being slanted downward, genius! I felt a sense of warmth watching this 4th of July video on the beautiful abbey grounds while it is 8℉ here in northeastern IL. Hope that hive made out well!
Hello again from England, I remember that video in July, you can obviously see that it was in the warmer season, hence no whiskers, oh yes, I forgot to say, that my profile has changed to NM Honeybees, because I have finally decided to have a channel of my own, anyway, catch up again on your next video, until then stay safe my friend, and as ever, may ✝️ God bless and protect you and your family ✝️
I really enjoy your videos. When I was little ( 70+ years ago) 13:47 my neighbor had bees. They usually swarmed into the almond tree right outside my bedroom window. As soon as I saw the swarm starting I would call him and he would come get them when they settled. I got lots of bee stings trying to rescue them from drowning in the dogs water bowl and stepping on them in the clover in the lawn. I got lots of free honey! One question you have probably already answered someplace: what are robber bees? Are they just bees from other hives or are they a different species?
Great story, thank you for sharing it. Robber bees are bees from another hive that come to steal honey from a different hive and bring it back to their hive. Any bee has the potential to become a robber bee, all that is needed is the opportunity to act. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sybil. Mr. Ed

Jeff what caused them to move out of the hive? It seems to me that either wax moths or hive beetles may have overloaded the box. Or am i wrong??
