A Queen song that doesn't have any subtle hidden meaning! This is also really cool in concerts!

This song defies genres, which is why they couldn't come up with the right words to describe it. "News of the World" is one of my favorite albums. _SO_ diverse. If you listened to "Sheer Heart Attack" and "My Melancholy Blues", without knowing who it was, you'd never know they were the same band.

Great reaction! So glad you liked it and appreciated it. For some reason, people get so caught up in the lyrics and can be critical of it. But I really love it.

Love the oriental vibe in this... nice fourth voicings on the piano... the Eventide stuff is cool.... has that classic trick of feeding a note back into itself in minor 3rds to get diminished chords.. I used to mess about with that on a Boss SE70 25 years ago... but Queen were doing it back in 77.... very cool stuff...

I think the guy writing the description figured if they threw enough words into the sentence one of the words would actually describe the song. Glad you enjoyed this. Just example # 1000 of why Queen is hard to define as a certain style of music. They are just Queen. It’s what I love about them. And I’m sure you would find gems on all of their albums. And the cool thing is they won’t be the same as the gems I have found.

They did this in Montreal in '81, and there's a live version on RUclips.
Did it at MSG in '80, they did the snippet in '82 when I saw them.

That's what's so great about Queen, Very interesting music! And, they've got something for all kinds of emotional states. So we get surprised or . . . you know when it's ok to run to the laundry room and accomplish something. Watching your face . . . lol. Watch the video when they do this in concert. NEAT.

Justin, The QUEEN ALBUM you are looking for is called JAZZ. It came out after this one, and it was before they changed their entire style. All deep cuts of some great tunes. The whole album is full of great tunes.

Queen had a slightly different progression, their early albums are the unknown ones. Queen had mega hits on every single album they ever made, except for the first two. On Queen's last album they had a no.1 hit they were still very popular, a top hit making group. That is why it was such a shock to the world when Freddie died, they just had a top 10 hit a month before Freddie's death. Innuendo was a no.1 selling album, 9 months before Freddie's death. It is a different type of situation when a very known artist dies while they are still topping the charts.

Definitely not one you'd play at a family disco! 🤣
The one thing you soon discover from listen to their albums is that they were never afraid to experiment and try different styles of music. It's what Queen were all about. If you don't like one track, then you're bound to like the next one. They just loved to try new things and put their own slant on everything they did.

When you're Irish catholic mother busts into your room (1978) screaming "What the hell is that!?" (and not in a good way).. you know you're on to something lol.

dude, you're funny......🤣. as others have mentioned, LIVE this song gave the band an opportunity to expand on the lights and echos effects of the vocals from Freddie and the May's guitar.

I was curious about your reaction to this album and it is what I hoped to happen. Each song will appeal to many even if some are not what your personal taste, yet so many people will love every track somewhere Not many bands, apart from The Beatles can do this. Queen began branching out their genres and pushing their boundaries for musical development in '77.

I'd even call this small-p progressive, especially for 1977. It's not something I'd rush to listen to again (not sure what the heck the psychedelic break was all about), but they (Freddy?) were definitely trying to come up with something new. That minimalist approach was just starting to come along through groups like Talking Heads, although I can't imagine Freddy had heard them yet. I can also hear how Trent Reznor would have been attracted to this. It's perfect for that cut and paste production style where you can have a base rhythm sequence and just layer on different parts almost randomly.

Great reviews man. Even tunes that I dig and you don't is cool. It is what makes all of us different and allows us to discuss them over a beer or something. As for Spread Your Wings? The track that you should honestly take six minutes out of your day to check out, would be the Live Killers version. You'll hear audience participation on a scale that you've never heard on a record, especially up until that point (1979).
NOTW has turned into my favorite album by them. It is the most diverse and It's Late is my favorite track by them. Period. It is the hidden gem of the band.
As for NIN, their version is solid and still adds their own flavor to it. Trent adores this band and Freddie. But that cut is worth a review at a later IMO.

Honestly the fact of the matter is that there really aren't words to describe Queens musical style.
Every album went places that hadn't been gone to before.
So I think these wingnuts reviewing them had to make 💩 up as they went along.
To me when buying and listening to these records, back then, I just thought "man this is amazing!".

@@ZENOBlAmusic some songs are but most are dance tracks trying to imitate the European disco sounds. Disco in the US had mostly died out on the charts but it was strong in Europe. It actually has never died, it’s just come back in different forms such as house, trance etc…..it’s really all just modified disco. I remember when disco actually had a real rhythm section.
