    Solder some wires onto where the batteries are connected and relocate the batteries outside the case where you can check and replace when needed without taking it apart again

    They do need replacing often....thanks for showing location of them :)
    Don't leave them out of the sun also, or they will need batteries faster.

    I have a three years old non battery powered Linc screen 2 of Lincoln Electric. I use It un my hobby repairs.Last weekend started to fail and make me the same as you, and surprise, It has 2 2335 batteries inside. I want to put a reclamation to Lincoln Electric, because if i don't see this video i would spend another 70 bucks in a new welding mask. I'm very dissapointed with them

    Thanks for the video, didn't know there was batteries either. My mask died after about 7 years of use. Was about to buy another. You saved me some $$

      Yea can never be to safe for sure. Good idea. I"m going back to old school welding helmets but with the bigger window. I really need to make sure. I already have a bad eye to start with. A piece of wire went right through one of my eye's and the eye doctor had to change out the lens I had in my eye to a fake lens. Years after that I was not able to see good. Then they laser burned a hole through the lens after that part I was able to see much better. The only thing is now is that eye is real touchy with bright lights. Yea so I have to go back to the old school type helmets. I just can't can risk it any longer is all. TC closer

      i did the same for a while but i got tired of rechecking my weld start point, i now avoid the slower reaction masks now and go for the fastest ones i can find and ofcourse quick change batteries.
      eye sight like hearing is a beautiful thing and too many take it for granted, atleast you can make people realise how easy it is to loose it and to not take things for granted.
      i had brake fluid eat away part of one of my corneas but i was very lucky and it healed , it was annoying with constant visual distortion.

    Just pulled this same helmet out after 5 years sitting.. flickers and wont stay dark... time for new helmet. wish i had known years ago that this had non replaceable batteries. Good thing the cheap Hobart does.

    the lens always protects against infrared and ultraviolet light. it only darkens to meet bright (arc) light conditions so you can see the bead you're running. and yes, the pv cells charge from the arc.

    • @peckerwood6078
      @peckerwood6078 Год назад

      So What does that mean? Are you not going to get a flash or damage your eyes if it doesn't darken??
      I'm pretty pissed off cause I think my eyes have been damaged by this helmet which I paid extra money to make sure I was protected!!
      This is a class action lawsuit that needs to be taken up with the manufacturer. Mine says "Lincoln" in big letters across the front and they'll be hearing from me.
      Let me know if you have any answer for me! Who makes a helmet that can't be serviced without pulling it apart. There should have been a well advertised recall on these helmets.
      Anyone else having vision problems please contact me.

      Wow...I thought I was only one who was getting flashed by these stupid cheap helmets!
      It my opinion to never use a solar charged system.
      So I've used a solar one.and noticed after just a few short welds that my eyes are all weird.
      I'm like what the?
      My theory is that if the batteries are weak or totally dead, then it takes the solar panel an extra half second to actually darken the thing and boom, you get flashed.
      Why the heck didn't they just make the batteries accessible so they can be changed?
      This is just stupid. It your eyesight for crying out loud!
      I'm moving to a battery only or just and old fashion plate...I know that will always protect my eyes!

    I had one of these “solar cell” powered Lincoln hoods when I first started out. Got flashed quite a few times before realizing this unit didn’t have easily to replace batteries. Just become too unreliable. Since then I use both Esab and Optrel hoods, Live and learn.

    My helmet is 16 years old auto darkening and works good and I only use it every once in a while and it sits inside. I heard the solar panel charges the battery and there are sensors that detect the arc not the panel itself. It can also charge using the arc.

    The 2335 lithium battery is not recharged from the solar panel, the autodarkening runs off the batteries, helped by the solar panel. To recharge a lithium ion battery would require a much larger, more efficient solar panel than the cheap small one in the helmet, probably 3 or 4 times larger and costing $10 wholesale just for the solar cell. This is the exact same autodarkening unit inside the $45 Harbor Freight helmets, even the same 2335 brand battery with yellow insulator and spot welded tabs, same circuit board. I've purchased and used small solar cells, this is probably used for triggering the darkening, not to power the unit.

  • @paddlepower888
    @paddlepower888 4 года назад +2

    Horrible, that 1. the unit stopped working 2. one battery was dead and 3. You had to crack open the case to get to them.
    This means that the maker doesn't care about its customers and also expects you to just replace the whole thing.

      @Mikey-ym6ok 4 года назад +2

      Jeffrey Wong I mean, when you buy a low cost helmet that means you don’t expect to use it too much. It’s your choice to buy these throw away hoods, or buy one that has replaceable batteries. I bought a Viking Lincoln electric replaceable aaa battery for 130$ and it suits me. If you weld once a year or a couple times a year and don’t want to pay the money buy a passive good for maybe 40$. Have to do your homework folks.

    I looked into this years ago and from a rusty memory the batteries aren't rechargeable although there is a version with rechargeable batteries I am told. The batteries get you started and then the flash takes over from the solar panel while you are welding to save the batteries. I like the old style helmets because I feel after welding with these auto darkening helmets my eyes feel strange afterwoods. Might be my imagination though. With the old helmets you have to be really careful you don't have a crack in the glass because sometimes you don't notice but will realise after you finish welding and are lying in bed at night.

    • @MrDoingEverything
      @MrDoingEverything  7 лет назад

      I hear you about the cracks on the lens. The glass lens I like the best. cause to me there much easyer to see the cracks. Them old type helmets are the ones I will be using from here on in. That's all they had to use a one point and it worked out ok. Other people can use what ever they want to. This is my third time having ark eye. Every time was with one of these auto darkening helmets. Not this helmet in the video but the same type really. I just don't want this ark eye to happen any more. This time around having it sure is taking its time healing. So I'm unsure really if each time it happens. The eye remembers it or not from before. Its been 11 days now and its still really bothering me. It seems like each time having it is taking longer to heal up. Just my guess though. But no more chances for me is all.

      The batteries must be rechargeable or they could not work with a solar panel. The solar panels feed the batteries and the batteries power the lens.

    I put mine near a window and it was charging for part of every day, and it STILL when bad. So parking it in the sun does not help. The masks are just garbage.

  • @dahut3614

    It looks like those batteries each have a different part number. Panasonic does make a VL2335 that is rechargeable, but the helmet would need the circuitry to recharge them. There is a question on the Home Depot page for this or a similar helmet where Lincoln Electric said to recharge it by putting it in front of a 60 watt lilghtbulb for five hours. The CR- battery in yours looks not to be rechargeable. Maybe one of each?

    Inside my Lincoln helmet it says to change the batteries if it dont function right...mine is solar also...even tho mine is self darkening I will get everything set up to weld..and at that last second shut my eyes for the initial flash....I thought you were going to show how to replace the batteries in this video..

    This guy put external battery holders on his and epoxied them to the helmet. They have a OFF/ON switch where you can shut them off if you don't use the helmet much. ruclips.net/video/OrK5NheR0Bo/видео.html
