My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

Have to love how on a video about trying to learn how to not care about other people’s opinions/thoughts/etc. concerning chasing your goals and dreams and how you do that, there’s a couple people leaving their negative and unasked for opinions. I think they might be missing the point 😂 You are awesome and I have been thoroughly enjoying all of your content since discovering you through Lindsey’s podcast The New Paris. I’m very impatiently waiting to move back to Paris next year and your content is helping to keep me going! As someone interested in a similar career, thank you for what you do! It’s really amazing and inspiring to see. I’ll be picking up your guide for sure before moving to keep learning more about this amazing city!☺️

Good lessons from this one. I like doing social experiments for myself, to ensure I don't put too much stock into what others think of me... like spending some time on a Saturday morning holding a sign, begging for money on a freeway offramp. Now I have a personal glimpse into the day of a panhandler while keeping my ego in check

Bloom where you’re planted. We just moved to London from Paris and I got to know the city really well (side note: I love watching your footage and pretty much knowing where you are…crazy small city really. Anyway, to the point, Paris is the PERFECT city to practice “not caring about what others think”. This attitude practically comes out of the faucets there. Just do you! 😂

Thank you! And I totally get it - jealousy is welcome if it leads to the requisite action to move us in the direction we want. Often it serves as a sign post directly towards that =D
Hello. Cooper is such a star! As a dog owner myself (one of which loves to grab and eat anything he finds on the street), in the case where he has an upset stomach, feeding him special GI wet canned food from Royal Canin, Science Hill etc mixed with rice, helps settle the stomach. As for Cooper potentially eating something that may have obstructed his GI tract (diarrhea, vomiting and coughing can be symptoms) , you'll need to see the vet ASAP. They can take an X-Ray to see if there's an obstruction. My dog has eaten small rocks which he has managed to pass on his own. And one other time he swallowed a small piece of rope which caused an obstruction and required emergency surgery. The second piece of rope he managed to pass on his own. All very stressful because they move so fast when it comes to something they have to have! Good luck! Big hug for handsome Cooper. All the best.

You would live the rest of your days thinking of what you need and want. Do that NOW! You are not hurting anyone by living your existence to the fullest. You are only hurting yourself by not. I can feel a lot of sadness and anxiety in you and I know probably most of them are combinations all the not so good experiences you have had in your lile, but having said that I'm glad to see that you handling them quite good I hope. I know it's easier said than done but you can only do what you can at any moment in time. Don't be hard on yourself and dont worry about anybody will say....always remember YOU DO NOT NEED ANYBODY ELSE'S permission on anything you want to do in your life.
You have come a long way and already achieved a lot for yourself and that my friend is something that you should be very proud of..... you just need to surround yourself with good friends and hopefully find yourself a good partner to share all the success that you will have or someone to lean on when life's challenges come in.
As far as I'm concerned you already a great companion in Cooper, you know what they say, nobody can love you any better than a love coming from a dog. Your vlogging is as always are good BUT, having Copper in it makes it so better as I see a great bond between the two of you. He is such trooper in many ways and so well behaved at all times. So don't worry and be HAPPY my friend.😊

Haha, totally depends on the season. Filming something like a 20/20 I hit an average of 17k per day. When I'm stuck at home working a ton, it's closer to 10k/day.
Aloha! I only give a handful of people the ability to affect me. Most I don’t care what they think. When I talk online or out loud for the matter, I mostly think, am I communicating well? I have been a communicator/teaching etc to a large groups and small groups. Now very difficult as I have aphasia. Rest assured , You do well.
Im living the return to more frequent vlogs! I have recently found myself wondering what happens next now that I have completed the original goal that I came to france with.
When I hit my 50’s, I got MUCH better at not giving a f*uck what people think. I’ve been told it gets easier in my 60’s. Can’t wait! 😂

The biggest thing about brains is their propensity for ‘overthinking’. Anticipating outcomes. Especially about things over which you have no control. Regarding ‘permission’, there are occasions when having someone, maybe a professional, to give one permission, especially to just Stop
A hundred percent - I feel like there are a lot of big inspirations in my life that have given me permission both to start and to stop. I think the key difference is choosing whom you allow to influence you that way more than anything (we are all social creatures after all)
You work so much it's like the big thing in your life. That's going to make a pretty sad stressful life. Right?
Counterintuitive suggestion - start volunteering? A few hours a month just helping a cause you like, give you structure by following a schedule, have some "coworker" relationships, you'll feel good about yourself, get a break from contant hustle culture, etc, etc. I recommend working at an animal shelter personally.
If you go back in my story a bit, you'll find I volunteered four years of my life in West and Central Africa. I'm very happy on my path 🥂 Hope you still enjoy my vids

Hi Jay! I love that you explore the city. It’s something I could never do on alone, but would love to with someone willing to do it with me.
On another note, when you mentioned jobs you’ve not liked, I wondered if you like having to set up the camera for shots of you walking, etc. Is that the part that makes you wish you had a personal camera “man/woman”? Or would that just cause more headaches to scheduling vs you just filming whenever you feel like it! Curious to your answer!
Nah! I'm always working on being my best camera man 🎬 Though Kate's clacker skills still outstrip my own 😅
Hahaha…yeah…I’d say feel guilty…but, only because I’m jealous, LOL! I would love to have a passion that would motivate me to pursue it , no matter the fear. What you have is courage! Also, if you allowed yourself to give into guilt, that would make you feel guilty too, because you’d be depriving yourself of followers of so much joy…so, really there is no solution but to do your best to recognize the service your creativity is for others, and to let the guilt find somewhere else to nest. I could feel guilty that I have a roof over my head, great food to eat, and am able to travel to France on occasion, where many lack those very things….but, I also have a service to provide…and…the truth is, that energy given equals energy received, and depending on your belief system, the energy you receive can look very different from what you think you want. Ergo, life is about turning our beliefs into joyous truths., rather than self -destructing experiences.

I generally don't like speaking in public, probably because I am never well prepared enough to do so, but I admire people who can speak coherently without ums and ahs. It's definitely practice creating confidence. One thing that just freaks me out as you were doing all those distant shots to camera, was expecting some fecker running off with your camera ! I wouldn't be able to concentrate :)
I definitely put in the extra situational awareness first to keep the focus 😂
@@JaySwanson I remember 24 years ago (yikes) I was doing a project at Ofeverie Christofle when they were by the canal in St Denis and a colleague went for his usual walk at lunchtime. He had just bought a new mobile phone, and as he was walking along, the phone rang, so he continued to walk distracted by the phone call when a couple of youths ran up behind him, ripped the phone from his hand and legged it ! I think I'm scarred by that memory !!! 😄
Are you suffering from Imposter Syndrome? From the web: "Imposter syndrome is the internal psychological experience of feeling like a phony in some area of your life, despite any success that you have achieved in that area. You might have imposter syndrome if you find yourself consistently experiencing self-doubt, even in areas where you typically excel."
I suffer badly from it. The only way I have found to fight it is to have small gains/aims you can easily achieve in your work to show you how good you are.
Last point IMHO, your videos are awesome, keep them going. You would be surprised how jealous some people are (myself included) to be living such a life.
Thank you! And yeah, I've come to realize that there's a form of impostor syndrome in there for sure. I think for me it's a lot more to do with my upbringing and the basic needs I never had met as a child (all the way into adulthood). I have some serious rewiring to do, and that has helped immensely. But I agree that the small wins and steady discipline are fantastic weapons against impostor syndrome. Keep it up!

I can understand how you feel. It must feel strange to have patrons. I am sure that you are used to it, but there must be a pressure to provide some return to those folks that are on patreon. Like having many bosses. I know that all of those supporting you are happy when you are happy. so do what you need to do/want to do.
You struck it on the head with the second half - I really feel very supported by my patrons more than anything. I don't think anyone can put more pressure on me than I put on myself 😂 Thankfully they're a group of people that are the first to push me to take care of myself and rest when I need it. I feel very lucky to have them =)
