All the years I've been listening to this master of infusing the blues with sarcastic irony and loving every minute of it and its one of his latter day tunes that ends up being my all time favorite Mose track! I really love watching people who are seeing and hearing him for the first time laugh with surprise and delight when they catch his lyrics!
This is one of my top 3 classic Mose songs...it's marvelous to see him still doing such a stellar job with it. Thank you, hobocakes, for posting this. These clips from this show are a real gift !!
+The James brothers band: I saw him at City Winery in New York a couple of years ago. Our table was right in the front row. We had a perfect view.. of Mose Allison's back. The sound wasn't disappointing, though. He was a lovely man, starting to show signs of age, though. Forgot some lyrics along the way. I'd see him again.
Around 2:40 he gets the second line of the last stanza wrong, substituting one he'd already sung. When Jerry Garcia did that (typically on "China Cat Sunflower"), he'd just forge ahead and sing the whole verse with the wrong lyrics, maybe revisiting it later. Mose is so cool, and his bass player is tracking him so well, he can head right back to the start of the last stanza and make it sound like a planned detour. Mose is way more than "almost successful!"

Playing with him was one of the great things in my life - Kelly Sill
Thank you. Have loved your music, and you, ever since I first heard "7th Son of the 7th Son", or some such title back in the 60s, I think it was!!
My favorite Mose tune.
Always liked Mose's laid back delivery, dry wit and blues harmony.
