I had the same mentality “I don’t want to be a burden to anybody else!” I decided to isolate myself to process every single emotions and thoughts on my own. But God met me during those times, and sent me the right people to help me. It is really important to journey this with someone you trust! No judgement, no condemnation. Praising God for my Christian community!
    Good points, Pastor Joe!

I wish pastors and churches have the same perspective about mental health. It's so traumatic for me that my church itself were invalidating my struggles and actually caused me so much damage. Thank you for this, Ptr. Joe! As much as we should bear other people's burdens, people like me who has conditions should also let other people carry my burdens too. It's a process, but I am very thankful with the support I get from my S/O and friends along the way. This is very calming and reassuring. Thank you, Ptr!

Thank you, Ptr. Joe. I usually don't tell others what's going on with me because I'm afraid to be a burden, while I've always been willing to bear other's burden. I think I should be more vulnerable also.

... the reason why so many people in ministry leadership crash is because they hide the human challenges that they face to show a facade that God is doing powerful things in their life all the time. Thanks for being vulnerable and genuine. Kudos!

Thank you pastor for sharing this side of the story. I have someone who gave up on me because of my mental condition. I am in the process of healing, and in touch with my faith, in fact I cling to it like never before, but this person admitted that he’s not strong enough. As much as I wanted to be resentful because he bails out when I needed him the most, I think it’s also brave of him to admit that to himself, and I know he’s hurting a lot too. I just hope that this message would reach him in case that he had to go through the same thing again, that there are other people like yourself who have someone they love going through a mental issues and how to deal with them. I know a big hug is all I need.

I remembered from one of my classes during college po that we are encouraged not to ask "Why?" to someone that is suffering or going through something because most often they can lead to that someone being defensive of what he or she is going through. Just be there to listen to them or just simply being present for them is already more than enough for some people...

Thank you so much for sharing these warm and kind words, Pstr. Joe. This truly helped me. Just this November, i was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. When you said that the journey won't be linear, it truly helped me because i thought i was regressing and getting back to zero, but it's just the way the journey is. I just pray for the courage to really ask for help and all the resources i need to heal, for my therapy sessions and medicines if still needed. Thank you and God bless you, Pstr.

Hi Pastor Joseph! I thank God indeed for how you always been brave enough to make your life an example of what you preach ( just like your Dad).. Truly gives an impact and an encouragement to be authentic despite the seemingly negative circumstances in life. I'm a mom whose daughter is battling of depression for 2 years now and I fully relate when you said " buckle up, enjoy the journey, do not dictate the pace, see every Lil progress".. Same thing God made us learn along.. Affirming indeed that God only holds and knows the future of our loved ones, so just be there while bearing each other's burden.
    Thank you again🤗

Thank you for this pastor, the part where you said “to let them wrestle with God and pray for them to Him in that struggle” resonates in me.. its very encouraging to know that “ITS OKAY, and God can handle it, he’s not offended, he can take it” I know that I can be raw and blatantly honest with my feelings without fear and inhibitions. It breaks so much wall in me.
the sounds though🤣 a bit off (atleast for me)✌️😂

Pastor Joe, can you please share to me the link of the podcast that your wife shared to you?
My wife has depression and I can relate to you, and I need help also. I feel that I'm not helping my wife with her condition. I feel that I'm adding up to it instead of helping her. Most of the time I get frustrated and triggered because of her actions and words, which I know that she's acting that way because of her condition. I am aware that her condition CAN alter her reality where she cannot see things clearly, but sometimes I'm telling my self "Sumusobra na eto ah!" and I tell to God, "Lord, I cannot take this anymore. I am hurting too. Saan po ba ako lulugar?". I know that I need to sacrifice, to forgive, to serve, to be gracious, patience and understanding to my wife, that's my role as her husband, but sometimes nauubos din ako. And when that happen, I snap back. Then I feel guilty and feel so bad about my self. Then I tell God, "I'm sorry, I failed you. I fell again into the trap".
I know that I can always run to God and read his word when I needed comfort, peace, strength and security. I'm not saying that God's word is not enough. I believe that God is enough! Almost everyday I am declaring James 1:19-20 in my life. But at times I need someone who can I talk to. Someone who can relate to my situation -with a spouse with depression.

My sister is diagnosed bipolar/narcissist, refusing to take medications or go to therapy or counseling. It's terribly exhausting and draining to deal with the bouts of anger and toxic rage, specially if she gets abusive to our parents. We're always tiptoeing, careful not to trigger her. Very intense. I wish it was easy to carry the burden, or face it with grace, but it's not. I feel it's breaking our family apart.

Sad thing is it's burdening because even if you are down and out, those people don't even ask how you are.

Legally, you may be absolve by placing a disclaimer, but ethically, you are not a mental health professional and people will still take your advices as if. This however, is in no way saying your advices are wrong. Just a thing I needed to point out because you could be wrong. 🙂

You’re right. I could be wrong. Thanks for making an anonymous RUclips account and pointing that out. That’s why it’s a risk to make any kind of public statement. The best one can do is do a heart check, prepare well, make the claim as excellently as one can, then put your name beside it for accountability.
