  • Zach Hyman is fresh off his fourth hat trick of the season against Washington. He's currently on pace for 59 goals on the season. Is this a product of Hyman being underrated? Or is this just a lucky circumstance for Hyman to be playing with Connor McDavid? 7-Elevent That's Hockey host Gino Reda dives in.

My thoughts on it are that Hyman saw the opportunity to play his best career years with a generational talent and has taken full advantage by training his ass off to become the best version of himself. If it wasn't for Hyman bringing his game to the next level, he'd be one of a long chain of wingers that can do okay but don't quite have the skills to finish what McD sets up for them consistently. If just going to the front of the net was easy, everyone who did it would be scoring 40+

Zach Hyman is the kinda player you would want on any team. He may not wear the “C” but make no mistake, he is a leader on this team and shows it both on and off the ice. The fact that his production has been this great is the cherry on top. Even when his numbers were more “human” he was still getting big goals at the right moments. And you can tell he’s well liked by everyone

Hyman is a beauty. Regardless what sweater he wears, I've always been a huge fan of this guy's grit, heart, and determination, and I always will be. He seems like a very likeable guy too, with a grounded personality. He was my favourite Leaf for the years he was there, and he's easily tied for my favourite Oiler.
If he continues to play with the heart he does, regardless if his production falls off at all, the fans in Edmonton will always love the guy. I can't imagine how closed minded you'd have to be, to dislike a player like Hyman, who has genuinely had to work for every single opportunity he's gotten in this league. 🍻

He wouldn’t be doing this well without McDavid, yes, but that doesn’t discount the way he compliments McDavid style of play. McDavid has had plenty of line mates, none seem to convert as well as Hyman except maybe Draisaitl on the PP. McDavid is good at moving the puck around/keeping control and finding seam passes, Hyman is good at getting open, getting rebounds, and his offensive hockey IQ is just insane.

He’s a good player but don’t act like he would score 50 without McDavid. In Toronto Marner was looking to setup Matthews not Hyman, so he was left picking up the garbage that his linemates left for him. Now he has the Wayne Gretzky of this era actually looking to feed him. He is a great player and has shown that even in Toronto but this is a career year largely due to 97 and if other teams knew he could score 50 there would have been a bidding war that would have gotten Hyman paid a lot more. Don’t act like this is a stroke of genius by Holland because he also tried to pluck a goalie by the name of Campbell from Toronto as well and… well I don’t have to tell you how that worked out. I’m not a leafs fan just looking at this objectively and I think letting Hyman go was a huge mistake and there’s no bone in my body that believes Toronto can win the cup while I do believe Edmonton has a strong chance.

@@Mellotron63 This is why I never understood the Matthews hype. He scores lots of goals, but he does not drive play. He does not set up his teammates. You don't see Matthews carrying the puck from his own blue line most games... It is Nylander and Marner that do that. He is good defensively during the regular season, but stick lifts and finesse don't translate to the playoffs which is why Matthews has 22 goals in 50 career playoff games. McDavid hits more than Matthews this season and is 30 pounds lighter. Matthews needs to get gritty and use his 6'3 220 frame in the playoffs if he wants to win. McDavid is 6'1 190 and has 25 more hits than Matthews right now.

This is the most accurate interpretation of what is going on in the Hart race right now. The Avs the last few years did not need to be carried by MacKinnon, while the Oilers did indeed need to be carried by McDavid and Draisaitl which is why McDavid had 153 points last season and has led the league in points 5 times in 7 years. It is now reversed. MacKinnon has to carry the Avs with some help from Makar and Rantanen while Landeskog is out, and McDavid does not need to carry the Oilers like he once needed to.

Come on TSN, your media channel only talk about Canadian born players and you only want to talk about Hyman because he is a Canadian. Stop being so racis* please!

Lets look at the start of the season when oilers lost 3 straight to the canucks. Mcdavid and draisital where the only "good" players in those 3 games with hyman doing fuck all.
Hes just lucky playing with the leagues best player

Look at the other 30+ games since then, it's not a 2man team anymore

Hyman is very fortunate to be playing with McDick and Drai. Without them, he wouldn't crack 30 goals. Either way Leafs suck!

I like Hyman a lot, but he’s the beneficiary of playing with McDavid for sure.

No crap. If it was so easy everyone would do it though. 😊
