I happened to be in Vegas that year and stood right across the street. That was incredible!

With so much smoke, the videos all show just the left third of the building implode. And it falls back, yet you can never see how any of the rest imploded. When I watched replays when I was a teen, all I could think of was- well, when the explosions went off, there were no flashes in the central portion of the building. So I used to think- hmm... Perhaps they didn't put any explosives in the middle portion because the left and right portions imploding probably was enough to simply destabilize the middle portion and that it must've been the *middle* portion that fell back. Because from the angled view, the size of the portion falling back looked consistent with the size of the middle portion. But now watching it again after so long, I realized that in the video, the portion that fell back was in fact the left portion, because the left outside wall is clearly seen. So in any video of the implosion, you can never see either the right portion, nor the middle portion imploded. So so much of the implosion went missed in the videos. And that's such a shame to me, because of the scale of the hotel. And it is why I wish that the implosion happened during the daytime. But I understand that the reason it was imploded in the night was because they wanted it done on New Year's Eve. But I believe that the most spectacular nighttime implosion was of the Dunes' first tower. The tower engulfed in fire just before and throughout the collapse was spectacular unlike any implosion I have ever seen, even on RUclips elsewhere in the world.

The portion that you are talking about that fell backwards was the middle section. Because if you look at pictures of the building before its implosion, you will see that the left section of the building has the HACIENDA marquee on it on its left side in vertical form, and it was a wider portion. So if you look at the portion that fell backwards at 0:21, you will notice that that portion is slim and no marquee on its left side, so that tells you that that is in fact the middle section just falling back. The middle was also the last one to go. So if you notice on 0:21, the right and left sections had already fallen (well, not counting the far right section of the right building, which we all know stayed standing), leaving the middle to close and end the show.

@@josephensworth7044 I'm gonna miss the Riviera. I mean- I already miss it... There is also talk about the Luxor going out of business. But as some other Hotels have been sold to others rather than imploded, hopefully they won't implode it. Although when I was a teen, I thought that it would look very interesting, because it would be narrower and narrower as it went down. If*. My father helped build the Luxor Hotel, the Mandalay Bay, Turnberry... I don't know which others. There's a saying that one side of the Luxor sank several inches into the soil. I can't tell, due to the scale difference of the structure and a few inches. We lived in North Las Vegas and I was under 10 at the time, so I never got a chance to see and memorize/recognize before when it was just the foundation. It's obvious, but I prefer a chance to see it. Then in the early '00s, I then and since got a view... on TV. Extreme Engineering (Megacity Pyramid). It's like a window back in time for me, because I'm looking at a moment where I lived just 15 minutes away. And there's the murder of Ron Rudin, and I watch about it on Forensic Files (For Love Or Money). Not thinking about how I lived in the same City, or where I was, but knowing how near it was to me. So I visualize just another day at home, while that was happening and how famous it became. Unlike random ones that happen on the streets every year. EVIL SOB didn't deserve parole. And despite her age when she killed him? Dude- she won the lottery against death behind bars, though not against being caught.
