I remember the feeling of loss I had returning from college in the early 90's to find my mother (a teacher) had given box's of my oldest 2000 AD to her class at end of term ...nearly 30 yrs on and still feel the loss.
I've actually heard of that group from their Judge Minty short film some time ago, amazing depiction. The Johnny Alpha film was a real treat to watch, I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next!
strontium dog came out at the same time roughly as judge dredd. I actually loved strontium dog more, great stories and more importantly the great artwork of carlos ezquerra (RIP) was awesome.
Good news is that, if you can find it, there's a sourcebook that works with the Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000AD RPG. You can make your own S/D agents and adventure in that universe!
The SD badge they wore was also a time device. It was used in a story where Jonny was killed and it brought him back, a bit tenuous but it allowed him to "pasS for deaD" (SD). My favorite character after Dredd. Also Strontium90 was added to a certain toothpaste brand in the 80s and 90s, but its now removed😁😁😁!
I read the collected version of the first story, or at least of Johnny's origins and I think its worth adding that Johnny was I think only 12 when he joined the Mutant Rebel Army. Also, looking forwards to when we get to his lover Durham Red, even though her story does get pretty insane, with more than a few shades of Warhammer 40K
Starlord was a great comic, and I loved the Strontium Dog stories best of all. I've had Middenface McNulty as my RUclips avatar for some time now. Nice to see so many remember Johnny Alpha.
Went the reverse path; I found the SD fanfilm first (because I'd watched Minty back when it was fairly new). I was introduced to Dredd way back in the mid-to-late 80's, c/o a friend who collect 2000AD (I never got into the habit, just read his).
I'm pretty sure he meant that he blacked out the last panel (with a marker pen possibly) coz it affected him so much!?! That's how I read it anyway. Sounds like sacrilege to me though......
he is my favourite comic book hero of all time, better than rogue trooper, better than anything i have read since and the top dogs johnny alpha, wulf and judge dredd crossover was pretty bloody awesome too
Extract from 2000AD Fire from Heaven: Wolf- "They're trying to outflank us on the mountainside." Johnny- "McNulty fall back to the next ridge, go to stage two." McNulty- "Gotcha, come on Wolfie!" Wolf- "What about you Johnny?" Johnny- "I'm in the house..." Wolf- "What house?" Johnny- "Westinghouse" McNulty- "Number four Johnny! Number four!" Sadly Big finish productions only produced three radiodramas featuring the character of Johnny Alpha, but I love all three. Hearing the great Simon Peg play him is an amazing treat, not to mention the other cast who bring the characters to life. I adored the third Alpha adventure Pre-emptive revenge, where Johnny travels back in time to assist Judge Dredd during the apocolypse war. Check them out if you ever get the chance!
Omg i just got trooper for switch today and wanted to kno more about the universe he came from and found your Chanel and i have to say brovo! Im hooked on the insight you have about the universe of 2000 and i will be geting all the comics i can. I love the dark judges keep up the good work and i will be watching all the content!
Mr H Reviews Bro, you should encourage people to buy their stuff from local comic book shops. The comic business is falling apart. And I, for one, would hate to see that happen. I encourage everyone to patronize a local comic book store. It helps everyone in the long run. Great content as always, you smooth and sultry voiced so-and-so. Haha! Be safe, bro.
Marvel and DC, the bread and butter of the comics industry, are killing local comic shops by alienating the fan base that has been their bread and butter for the last decade at least. Hop on over to the new revolution with #comicsgate and see how great comics can be again 👍
I am trying to get hold of the Judge Dredd and Jonny Alpha cross over publication where the two of them got into a big fight. It is not the Mega City One zombie uprising story line. This is an entirely different story, which came out in the 1990/1991 2000AD anual, which was set against the back drop of Mega City One. Does anybody own a copy?
So all i have to do is find an abandoned hospital and crack open the xray machine and pull out the strontium isotopes and i too will beblike this guy, sweet
Matt, sounds very cool! I had no idea there were action figures of these characters at all. We're getting closer to a Mega City 1 TV series, sounds like a hell of a ride coming up!
Kreelman, not krillman. clearly you didn't read toothy when it was on the newspaper shop's shelves, EEE not ii, as in Robert Peel's 'Peelers', the first police force
Dude hundreds of issues there are sooo many Strontium Dog stories, I got to say ' The Final solution ' is one of the best stories 2000AD ever put out but it is NOT to be read first as its quite late on in Jonnys life. Just start with the early ones and work your way up , they are all good!
Hate to say it but in her prime Anderson, at peak form her Psi abilities are off the charts and against non supernatural opponents not many can hold a candle to her.
Judge Dredd has started have characters from Strontium Dog appearing as their younger selves namely Johnny's father, who was shown visiting Texas City and getting kidnapped by mutants, triggering his hatred for them. Edit: Why is this listed as Judge Dredd,? Although set after the Judge Dredd series Strontium Dog is real a completely different series?
+Muzak Killer it's listed in the playlist judge dredd/2000ad universe and i use judge dredd explained on the title to reach more people, otherwise it's so obscure it wouldn't and I feel people deserve the opportunity to see this character.
It's also crossed over into Dredd more than anything else, and Alpha plays a major part in the Judgement Day story. There's also the unresolved question of whether Dredd's world will ever catch up with the war that created Johnny Alpha's world.
It's not certain. John Wagner has said in the past that Dredd's future is not necessarily the same one as Johnny Alpha, but it seems to vary depending on what story John wants to tell. Yes it's the same character in Nelson Bunker Kreelman, but the timeline in Dredd has already changed at least once with the City of the Damned storyline where the future destruction of MC-1 is prevented. The wrinkle is that Johnny Alpha is instrumental in stopping Sabbat's victory in Judgement Day, so if the Great War of 2150 is prevented, Johnny isn't born, and can't come back to stop Sabbat. That plot thread runs through an Al Ewing Dredd story called the Americans, where they know that there will be a war in 2150 in a document called the Alpha Files. (The solution to that seems to be kill Sabbat before he becomes too powerful)
not really, Killjoys has an Evil Glalactic Gov run by a Sadistic Royal Family, Theres no green goo in Strontiuim Dog, Strontium Dog has loads actual Aliens and Spaceships, Killjoys has no Psi's or Mutants so no its not Rips-Off at all The World of Killjoys is more a Firefly style Space western mixed with a Cyberpunk AUgments & Anti-Corperate themes of Deus Ex Strontium Dog is Baisicly a Mix of Mad Max, X-Men and Star Wars (at times)
So got a Thor hammer there the return to earth's past leads to Thor in history??new powers upgrade mutant Looking into a real one got the first bit but a high magnetic feild no and how the hell do you do that lighting. But the first bit motion to set yes might be able to get the lighting shower maybe.
I always found Johnnys powers silly considering that real alpha particles can be stopped by ten cm of air or a piece of paper. Still, Johnny Alpha is a very cool name and I guess that is what is important.
To my understanding, time displacement tech was developed after the nuclear war. The Kreelers use early edition, time weapons against Johhny and the other mutant guerillas, during the UK mutant rebellion. And the rebels are dumbfounded at first, never having seen anything like it.
I remember the feeling of loss I had returning from college in the early 90's to find my mother (a teacher) had given box's of my oldest 2000 AD to her class at end of term ...nearly 30 yrs on and still feel the loss.
I hope you sold her car for that
Ouch. Some of those go for $7,000 to $8,000 each now. R. I. P.

strontium dog always been my favourite story. Ezquerra art is the best too.
"Pre-emptive Revenge"....my favorite Dredd audio drama from Big Finish.
That fan film absolutely rocks. Wish it didn't end. So darn good!!!!
It was good I wish they kept on going like a squeal
Good news is that, if you can find it, there's a sourcebook that works with the Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000AD RPG. You can make your own S/D agents and adventure in that universe!
judge minty is awsome

JudgeMinty very good too loved it.
Have said it's zarjazz in many places :)

Just watched the Judge Minty short - only 4 years late. Read 2000AD as a kid but never got into Strontium Dog; this summary actually helped a lot.
Good video mr H, simon pegg played johnny alpha in a couple of audio adventures which were very good well worth a listern, thumbs up from wales.
Always been a fan of the 2000 AD universe. Thanks for making this video.
There's a big screen film just waiting to made and in my humble opinion the only director capable of bringing it to life is Luc Besson.
Starlord was a great comic, and I loved the Strontium Dog stories best of all. I've had Middenface McNulty as my RUclips avatar for some time now. Nice to see so many remember Johnny Alpha.
My favortite lore, judge dredd. Thanks mr. H.

I Love the Johnny Alpha/Judge Dredd crossover Judgement Day. The last panel is the only time I have marked out at a comic book.
Marked out ???
MrVercettti89 yeah, I want to know to, what do you do to 'mark out' a comic?
Just asking.
I think it's when you keep a place marked in a comic so you can easily find it again without having to flick through the entire thing.
@@KitchenSinkSoup I don't think you would need to mark the last panel, pretty easy to remember where it is. I think he meant something else...
I'm pretty sure he meant that he blacked out the last panel (with a marker pen possibly) coz it affected him so much!?! That's how I read it anyway. Sounds like sacrilege to me though......
Strontium Dog is a BIG favourite, a must read.
Been a fan of Johnny for a couple of decades now, good on ya.
i'm working my way through the alpha books atm, i'm on no. 6 currently. i'm enjoying them a lot.
he is my favourite comic book hero of all time, better than rogue trooper, better than anything i have read since and the top dogs johnny alpha, wulf and judge dredd crossover was pretty bloody awesome too
I like to see Johnny often the Judge Dredd TV show

Would love to see a Strontium Dog, or Rogue Trooper movie.
or a nikoli dante one.
You can find them on you tube!😮
As a 12yo boy, i had a particular appreciation for Red ;)
My favorite Judge Dredd lore keep up to good work Mr H
The death of Johnny Alpha was one of the best 2000ad stories ever👈✊😢
I feel strongly that you should direct the next Dredd movie!
Mr H, you are the real MVP!! love your channel.
Been needing me some new dredd content lol

Hey Buddy! What's for Dinner? Hey Buddy! Where you going?
Smiling Chuckwalla? Put it there, buddy.
Your suggested fan made link was awesome.. totally enjoyed your video
I fell in love with Otto Sump.
I still swear by his Lip Chapper and Sump Paste
Bubba: "Why Alpha - why are you doing this to me? Why are you torturing me this way?"
Alpha: "Because I hate you."
Cheers Mr H for introducing me to the world of 2000ad and judge dredd.
Loving this big dude
Torquemada,Nemisis, theres a can of worms..
Rouge Trooper movie is a must
Great vid as ever mate, Durham Red next?
DURHAM RED next.
Great synopsis Mr H. Who's up next from 2000AD I wonder?
Who the hell’s going to mess with us?
Do you think when you have the time you'll be branching out to the BioShock universe? I always wanted to ask but never commented that often lol
Also don't know if anyone else asked that yet.
+An accurate Stormtrooper sup dude, maybe! I'm drawing to a close on the other things so I will be swapping out content for sure

Is Johnny still dead or did they bring him back?
@@deanwaller8283 they brought him back years ago, first in flashback stories, then resurrecting him

Mr H do some videos of The Underworld werewolves & vampires lore
Yep, I've heard of Johnny Alpha, I'm currently trying to track down some resin figures of the infamous 2000 AD characters.
+Max Brandt you can pick some up on Amazon actually, bit pricey but good figures, I have judge Anderson never collected the rest sadly
I just scored a Johnny Alpha action figure by Reaction Figures. Now I just need Judge Death, Durham Red, and Slaine to complete my set.
Matt, sounds very cool! I had no idea there were action figures of these characters at all. We're getting closer to a Mega City 1 TV series, sounds like a hell of a ride coming up!

his pistol looks like a plasma pistol from warhammer 40k
Costume design really gets me- I think it’s terrible judge minty is still awesome
I was flipping through and I had to do a double take bc I thought this was about a guy named Scrotum Dog.
I love 2000AD comics
Mr h are you going to do more 2000ad comic readings
+Thomas Wightman not anytime soon no. There is copyright issues and the time it takes to make them is incredible. Hours.
Judge Minty disabled comments.... I know for kids bs but still, can't tell him who sent me can I.
