HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer - Pt. I

- Two-Part video series on HP's new Officejet 100 Mobile Printer that was just released on 04/06/11. The littlest Officejet measures " 13.6x16.7" x3.2" when closed and can print 500 laser-quality pages with its detachable lithium-ion battery. It can also print borderless 4" x 6" photo prints and handle media as large as 8-1/2" x 14."
Travel niceties abound as it folds up into a smooth brick-like shape with no protrusions to catch on anything while in transit. Another convenience is that It can be powered and charged by the AC adapter from HP business-class laptops and accepts XL high capacity ink cartridges for those long journeys.
Part I - A product overview, the unboxing and setup, and ink/media/battery installation.
Part II - Bluetooth and software installation and installed software overview.
Latest excuse - When I dumped Part II into iMovie, I discovered much to my dismay that the audio was missing. I decided to add commentary separately after I had edited out delays, so at times, the dialogue is rushed.
We are confident that you will get the gist though and welcome any questions that you may have. Enjoy!
@conjon11 The printer automatically sleeps and wakes up when a print job is received. It consumes almost no power while in sleep mode and is simply snoozing and keeping an ear open for an incoming print job. Bottom line is that there is no need to ever turn it off unless it is being transported.
Thanks for watching! We're glad the video was useful.
@wiecbb11
Yeah, part II was rushed for sure. I will be more mindful in the future. Thanks for watching!
I have Android tablet and phone and the OS can see Bluetooth printers. Like you said though, I think you need an app with print drivers to do the actual printing.
Mine seems to be dead, i have no lights except for a blinking power light
@taz33man1 You are welcome and we are gratified that you found it useful!
very good video you explained everything in detail keep up the good work
We are gratified that you found the video useful and thanks for watching!
Since it is a printer only, there is no way to make copies. You would have to scan a copy with a scanner or another MFP and print it on the Officejet Mobile. However, stay because a portable solution with copying is coming soon.
You sound like my kinda guy, somebody who is not afraid to crack open your gear and fix it! BTW, the Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One is pretty sweet as well.
7:22 "the next step would be, uh....Oops! " lol
Not sure because it's been a while (I need more memory). But try BT pairing and then printing from the PDF reader. Let me know what happens. You may have to try different PDF apps in order to find one that prints.
You have to pair your Blackberry with the OJ 100 via Bluetooth before you can print. Have you done that? Once you pair them, some kind of driver should be installed automatically. I don't own a Blackberry so I don't know what the print dialogs look like. Get back to us with findings.
which is that song you used at the beginning sounds cool :)
14 minute video just to turn it on. Too long.
can this printer be turned on/off thru bluetooth on a laptop or do you need to press the button on unit?
I am looking for a manual to replace a small broken gear for an officejet 470. I noticed that you have worked on them. Can you tell me where I can find one?
I just got my hp 100 about a week ago and I love it.
Unfortunately, you can't print using an iPhone, only Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry.
not the left clip that is gray, but the problem is the black clip on the right, does not move
+Eva Cameron - The right clip is fixed. Paper goes in all the way to the right. Then, you move the gray clip to match the width of the paper.
Hi, Nice job, but tell me if that print can print a pdf send over a samsung tablet 10.1 ?
@greatdane43 I hear you! The 100 has great quality and minimal software requirments. Ink costs are also reasonable. Wish it had WiFi though...
the paper does not fit in mine, a right side black clip blocks from a black guide
+Eva Cameron -That is odd. The paper goes in the clip and you should be able to slide the guide to the left and out of the way.
Ha! Ha! Had to laugh when you were struggling to load the ink cartridges! :-) That's what brought me here. The HP 95 and HP 98 cartridges are a PAIN to load in this little printer. I thought for sure HP packaged the wrong cartridges with the printer. The trick is in knowing that the cartridges, in their FINAL installed position, do NOT sit at an angle, they sit horizontal, as in horizontal to your table or desk. They don't "insert" that way but sit that way once locked in place. A pain!!!
Hooked this printer up to my mini ipad directly with cord & told it to search for the printer ....never found it . what am i doing wrong?
Luan Kessler I hate to tell you this Luan but the OJ 100 will not work with any mobile device. It only works with Windows and Mac PCs and laptops. If you need a mobile printer that works with mobile devices, you need to look into the Epson WorkForce portable. However, its cost per page/ink costs considerably more and it does not have removable batteries.
+Terry Wirth it will work a tablet.
Can you caption this? I just tried to watch it and the auto captions are gibberish.
Sorry Rose, I would like to help you but these videos are produced ad-hoc and as is. They are not produced for profit and for informational purposes only.
Looking forward to using my new portable HP printer...
well... has been four years since video upload. did you have any problems with the printer? did you use it as much as you expected? is it worth the investiment?
Vinícius Alves We did not keep it as it was a loaned test unit. However, we had to buy two more a few months ago for another test and it is still current. Personally, I do not have an application for it but feel that it is well worth it if you need portable printing. The cost per page is on the high side but not when compared other mobiles except the Epson. Good little printer as long as you don't mind the tedious process of getting the Bluetooth connection working. Otherwise you'll have to lug around a USB printer cable. Wish it had WiFi though.
do you know other models that have the same "mobile" features like battery or this WiFi thing?
Vinícius Alves The Epson WF-100 is superior for printing from mobile devices and has Wi-Fi, but its ink costs are higher. This OJ 100 has the lowest ink costs of all the portable printers and that makes it worthwhile to get Bluetooth working from a PC or laptop for wireless printing or simply carry a USB cable. It is also one of the only one where you can carry a spare battery. That said, if you need to print from smartphones or tablets, the Epson is the way to go.
the right clip is stuck one half inch toward the left
+Eva Cameron - That's odd. The paper will not fit at all? That black clip should be on the extreme right. Is the printer new? If so, call HP and send it back. If you have been using it and this happened all of a sudden, get a flashlight and see if anything is stuck in the feed slot.
Ela tem uma bateria?
Ever find a solution to the problem with this crappy printer printing blank pages?
I was not aware of this but it sounds like an application problem. The reason I say that is I had a problem with blank pages when I printed eBay mailing labels on our HP OJP 8620 from Bing but they print fine from Firefox.
Thanks.
I will try. Sometimes they take a long time to install and/or things need explaining. You can aways fast forward though ;-)
How to connect to my phone... ? I have it smartphone android (Samsung galaxy note).
You have to connect via Bluetooth. You will also need an app. Part III of the video may help but better to go to HPs support Web site.
Yo
What makes it funnier is that I feel like I must have changed a thousand cartridges in my day! One recent HP (4500?) had upside down cartridges that you pushed up to set in place. You shoulda seen me sputtering with that one!
Thanks for watching!
@TerryWirth my printer is printing one page at a time even though i set it up to print more than one page on a multiple page document, any tips on how to fix this?
Stefano - Hmmm. That sounds odd. Do any of the indicators blink when printing stops? If so, you may have to clean the feed rollers. If not, it has to be something do do with the software setup. Assuming that you select "print entire document" in the print dialog, I suggest that you take a look at the paper type and paper size settings as well. That said, an indicator *should* also blink if you have the wrong paper size setting. Good luck and let me know how it turns out for you.
Terry Wirth Thanks for answering! the power light starts blinking, any ideas? also worth mentioning I am connecting through Bluetooth
+Stefano Iannini - Sounds like paper misfeed (clean rollers) or wrong paper size in print settings.
Terry Wirth sorry to bother you but how can I do this?
+Stefano Iannini - No bother. When you print, go into print properties from the print dialog box and explore the settings. However, this is one time only setting and you will have to continually do this. If you want to change default settings (Windows), go to devices and printers, right click on the printer icon and select printer settings.
Is it good for pictures ?
It can print photos as well as other CYMK printers. However, although some portable photo printers may do a better job printing 4x6 photos, they cannot print onto letter-size plain paper.
looking for a mobile printer that will also scan
There's the Officejet 150 Mobile AiO. Vids are on the Wirth Consulting RUclips Channel. Test Report is on our Web site wirthconsulting.org.
This is a really good printer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 . The reason I gave 4 stars for tech support (which I don't think this would classify as tech support) is because once you turn the printer on, it does require a little bit of start up time which may bother some who are in a hurry to quickly print something. To offset that though the printer prints very quickly. I would definitely purchase this printer again.
how do you get this thing to scan something?
Lewis Johnson It is print only. The Officejet 150 has scan and copy.
Terry Wirth ahhhh... word thanks!
+g0ag1l Like any other contemporary HP inkjet printer, photo quality is fine.
+g0ag1l - A CISS kit? I seriously doubt it as there's not much available space. Then, it would be far from portable.
it has no scanner
@metalkez @metalkez @metalkez Oh man, Greyboy is definitely cool. Check out DEALIN' WITH THE ARCHIVES on RUclips.
The album MASTERED THE ART is filled with head-noddin' tracks. Greyboy has definitely mastered the art. My personal fave is the title track.
I used to love putting samples in the intro to our vids but I got smacked down because of it. Now there's silence in protest. The system says no fun w/o paying the rich piper.
it is not as compact as i imagined. Quite large for a portable printer i guess
Yes it is larger than it looks especially when compared to portable photo printers. You may want to look out for a new Epson portable that is coming out soon and is significantly smaller.
will it make copies ?
Jeeeezus boys! . This is hard to watch

such a tease...
Nice video, the part where you were pulling on the cover going "this opens somehow" was just me in the office going "how does this bastard open??!" LOL thanks for the detailed vid.
Amazing ;) Good Crack ;)
Thanks for watching!
what that song bro? do you know?
Next time please don't make your unboxing videos so long :s
ha ha lol true
omg how bad
Waste of time.
