    Great video, I’m a level 2 coach and these examples are exactly the mistakes I see with my junior squad. 👍🏻

    Thank you coach Linda! I can use all the help that I can get! I find butterfly such a hard stroke to manage. So many components to put together. Thank you for producing that video. It illustrates very well all the wrong things that I am doing. 😁😁😁!

    Wonderful Linda... Pl tell which size of fin we used.. ie. short fin or long fin?

    • @USMastersSwimming
      @USMastersSwimming 2 года назад +2

      Hi Rahul,
      Short blade fins promote a faster / higher kick tempo, important for freestyle and backstroke training. However, the range of motion needed to develop a strong double legged dolphin kick is best left to long fins. Ultimately, short blade fins are better suited for an experienced swimmer. Hope this helps! Happy training!

    Advice on head position throughout stroke please. I'm a masters swimmer and the back of my neck gets tense on the breath phase. Thank you.

      Hi Tricia, try undulating your hips more. Also, you should be looking out at the other end of the pool, but you can also turn your head to the side to breathe. This alternative breathing pattern will be help with alleviating pressure on your neck.

    Thanks Coach Linda! I'll try all of these drills at Mission Viejo Masters practice tomorrow morning! Especially the sideways underwater kick with fins and arm out.. Looks like fun.. The fist drill too! Reminds me of my parents form of discipline in 1968😉. I don't know what Robert was complaining about.. A deaf swimmer could get what it was all about... Maybe Robert has water in the 👂? Like the laying down the elbow suggestion too! Have a great day! Slow guy in the 1,500... VF MVN 55-59

    I believe not having enough strength or range of motion to finish the stroke strong & decisively leads to bend arm during recovery. When I did one arm fly, it feels & looks like freestyle. What can I do? If I want to have undulation to where I can feel it, I can only do so by slowing down my stroke. Otherwise, my fly is pretty flat. Fly isn’t supposed to be that slow or that flat. What should I do differently? Thank you!

      Hi Nora, thanks for reaching out. There are a few things you can do in order to help obtain more strength and range of motion for your butterfly kick. The first thing I would suggest is adding fins on with butterfly. Then, I would suggest kicking with your arms down at your side while focusing on pressing your chest. The third thing is to flip over and be in a streamlined position and kick focusing on thrusting your hips to the surface of the water.
